peak was short n sweet - I'm still there but nicely flowin... next time (coz I weren't prepared for that) gunna be free from distraction.. ten with lemon.. and sit in stillness :mushroom2:

my tolerance and under estimation has crippled what I thought I knew , wiv a fellow tripper we reached around 150 .. but over a week gradual increase, didn't consider tolerance

so starting with ten is a safe bet. depending on what you've eaten , keep it empty.

Well, first time posting here (hope its in the right place),I live in north east Ireland and this is my  third season picking, my senses are finding some lovely areas but not big hauls like the head that found a kilo (fair play mate!!) I'm going to post a pic of this seasons finds (so far).. but I'm also going to post pictures of something else, I hope yous can help, I'm pretty certain I found some fly agaric out hunting yesterday (in what I can only describe as the ideal location for mushrooms,I spotted at least 9 different types,  again hardly any libs, it's a small, grassy, man made pine forest surrounding some boggy land that hasn't been farmed in years but sheep and cows graze it sometimes) anyway I found these which I have only started seriously researching since I found them and I'd like to know if you guys have any advise on picking, prepping, storing, consuming and well anything else I need to know..
thanks in advance, hopefully..

Hi all,

I don't think I would have persevered and found libs this year without the help of this forum/thread, so thanks for that
I looked last year and I think the year before to no avail, luckily this year I found some in a secluded field a stone's throw away. Not a massive amount but enough to have my first real trip last evening  (took close to 2g dried. Stupidly didn't do enough research into an appropriate amount, however had a great experience!)
It made everything I'd normally consider to be one-or-the-other very gradiented. Everything I'd previously thought of as black-and-white turned to grey, metaphorically and, more literally, everything day-to-day-typical turned into super-saturated, intensely colourful, shape-shifting, paradigm-challenging ideas. Very interesting and I've been so tempted today to go again but I think I understand I'll have a significant tolerance to it? (And I feel like it's bad etiquette to go again so soon, if that makes sense.)

Went out into the same field again today and found only 4 in the spot that I've went over the last few times, but about 15 more large bodies in a separate spot about 100 feet away. Call me over analytical but I've laid them out and weighed each so I can see by how much they all shrink whilst being air-dried over the next two~three days (not something I'll be doing every time).
I'd appreciate if one of you could kindly confirm/ID particularly the one's weighed at 0.59g and 0.42g as their caps seem more transparent than the rest shown below. In fact a couple of the larger caps are bigger than I've seen previously seen so maybe they need confirmation too? I've put them all on gridded paper in case that helps (each square is 0.5cm²).

I've also left a few immature bodies in the field. I'm planning to photograph them each day for the next few days to get an idea how quickly they grow. Will post the pics in a few days if anyone's interested.

Few questions I had:
1. Is it worth leaving small libs, where the cap has separated from the stipe, for a couple more days to develop further?

2. I've read to 'flick before I pick' to distribute spores to help future yields. Today I was picking first, then holding a little way up from the ground and simultaneously flicking/blowing the cap. Thoughts?

3. Is it worth taking spore prints and redistributing them in the field?

4. Is it known how much active material is in the stipe vs the cap of libs?

Other question I had relates to the experience; I felt rather drunk when I was at the peak of the experience (amongst other crazy feelings), and well as hungover/dry when waking up this morning. Is that typical for anyone?

Hmm, pics aren't as clear as I thought, let me know if better one's are needed..

I found a field packed with the some of the biggest shrooms I've seen so far, massive families every few steps, I only saw one or two non libs in the whole field
and to top it off it's less than two miles from my house

Haha, thanks for the warm welcome.. ehh I think I've got the hang of things with the libs (if only I could find more..)  it was the agaric that I have no experience with, and I was just looking to know if anyone had any advise on anything got to do with them, including how many of what size a few of us first time agaric users should consume to have a good time..

Yup all libs! oh and the little fuzzy thing you've put a question mark next to, looks like possibly the roots of a liberty cap, if you pull the whole thing out of the ground the roots will still be attached. There's discussion about whether or not picking in that manner is harmful to the production of the fruit but im not sure, I usually try "pinching" them off with my thumb nail against my index finder but if im in a rush or cant pinch it I pull the whole thing out.

Also, with your experiences tripping, wait until you have your second trip...honestly it's like there's so much going on the first time you forget it quickly but when you're tripping again you will remember your first trip much better haha it's pretty crazy. Also, tripping with friends is so much fun, outside is always more interesting too rain or shine, and if you have a portable speaker with good music....Heaven.

Found a good new field yesterday I just headed towards the massive ridge I saw on the horizon, through a farmers field and up onto mushroom plateau.  The beginning of the field was marked by a fine looking Fly agaric and a gigantic (dinner plate sized) Bay bolete.

This signalled good thing to come a I realised it was a wonderful diverse field (field mushroom-wise!).

Lots of big ripe P. semilanceata on show!  As always take nothing but pictures leave nothing but footprints

Looks amazing! That fly agaric looks incredible haha. I need to learn how to properly prepare them, I picked loads last year, dried them and then later used them in a tea as I would normally do with libs nd nothing happened, except I threw up... we all had to eat some libs in the end haha, ended up having a good trip.

Hi all, new member here. Just spotted these little guys in my garden, growing around some strawberries I planted earlier in the year. Are these libs? They look the right kind of texture, just not sure about the shape...

Cheers, I kind of thought randomly having them growing in my backyard might be a bit too good to be true.

26th of October and there's still none where I am. I looked at my best local spot yesterday and the grass and ground is far too dry. I found a few mycena growing there but nothing else. I'm guessing just not enough rain where I am. This is the kind of mushy season that I would bugger off to north Wales for a weekend of picking and tripping, and seems the worst yet for at least ten years (north east from London).

A few years ago I must have got 5-6 kilos (fresh) of liberty caps from my local park. The season isn't over yet though, and I will be looking out for them. Good luck with your hunting/picking people.

just want to thank every1 on here for all the id help and all the great info, my partner suffers from depression and just last week she hit an all time low she couldn't work she was signed off she would cry all day I felt so helpless.
She said her anxiety was absolutely terrible, having panic attacks daily before work. The doctor gave her tablets which made her feel awful so she wanted to try another route.
After several fruitless attempts at finding any shrooms, I went out and found 1.26 dried grams. On my arrival home it was clear that she was really suffering with her depression, the worst it has been for a long long time.
I had been researching the affects of psilcybe on depression and anxiety, and after discussing this in length, she decided to see if taking mushrooms would help as she was at her wits end.
To cut a long story short, her mood has been dramatically better since the start of the trip, and she is still very positive. Her anxiety levels have improved massively and she is going back to work tomorrow, even though she still has two weeks on the doctors note.
In her own words she called this mushroom magic. She had never tried anything like this before.
Thanks all for the support and advice.

Seamushroom - Fly agaric not my bag, I leave em to do there thing, member 'Duicebi9' may have some prep tips for you though, hes around this thread

Batineacid - What I do is, when out there, I place a stalk of lib between my teeth, as I breathe thru , I assume I'm breathing out spores as I'm picking :-)
I have though about this, inoculating good looking fields tho, we should.

Matian/countrydude - Lush pics... , that large rock by side of those libs, I'm guessing the nomadic peoples would pick and eat , carve stuff outta rock , like that one, untouched  :-)

wiccamixer - keep looking

Truth in Trees - glad to hear that, you should share it everywhere

In roughly the same geographical location as yourself and having very similar experiences this year. We've had piss all rain for the last couple of weeks and none forecast for the next week either (for where I am at least). Temps are spot on mind.

Hey there. Any joy? Myself and a friend managed to nab about 70-80 last week.

Need to go and have another look before the frosts come.

Blackadder:    Now, where the hell are we?
George:        Well, it's difficult to say, we appear to have crawled
into an area marked with mushrooms.
Blackadder:    [patiently] What do those symbols denote?
George:        Pfff. That we're in a field of mushrooms?
Blackadder:    Lieutenant, that is a military map, it is unlikely to list interesting flora and fungi. Look at the key and you'll discover that those mushrooms aren't for picking.
George:        Good Lord, you're quite right sir, it says "mine". So,
these mushrooms must belong to the man who made the map.
