Is it worth the 3 hour drive to Snowdon this weekend? Or Would I be better off Manchester Way?

I've got a spot that's about 1100 feet above sea level that I'm going to go over today, haven't found a single one so far but I haven't looked above 600 feet so far, hoping the extra height might net me a few , we've had a fair bit of rain over the last few days and cooler temperatures so fingers crossed!!!

Hello all in 2016,

After Repton's post I went out and searched high and low, and found nothing but 3 arrows, two dog leads, a zippo and a bird with broken wing.

This morning however my shadow found two sweet little pale ones not 300 yrds from my front door while on the way to buy milk. Roadside verge abutting pasture, low LV. Western Isles.

The past few days the condition of the grasses has been looking better so I'm going to take a walk and see what we can find.

Blazeyy!... still in the vanguard as always

ripping them out like that disrupts the information within the mycelium networks , anyone that says it don't they wrong.. any ways happy hunting!

Looking at them though, they look like they been there awhile, so season couldn't started slightly further back than you originally thought

I've heard this myth a lot, not at all convinced it's anything more than a lie repeated so often that it has become the truth.

The mycelium mends rather quickly, so there is little damage done unless you start mauling and digging up the turf.

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

hello blazey,nice ta seeya agin!

yeh they mend quickly... but it doesn't hurt to be careful and take pride , find the experience is easier on me the more care I take either way , even if it means taking sum snips...

start collecting more mud anyways , get 500 libs with their roots makes good for a soily tea lol

rip away like a greedy honey monster feel free, I wouldn't though
distruption asin don't expect much more in the way of mass in the next few fruits, signals get sent they are getting torn out by big giant apes they stop production line within that area of pick due to cutting off coms to that area - I found anyways - the ones growing in lines and follow eachother , brake the connection , that line stops - fair point?

owell what ever really , but there abundant only because of full networks not broken ones though...  ... but nice to see you again Angler fish, although i said disrupts information not damage, we only get 2/3 precious full months to harvest, want to do it carefully as possible so that the next 4-5 day rounds are great because mycelium's didn't waste its resource's fixing our unnecessary destructive habits but instead created more from within on that mycel path and gave its resources in making them bigger and juicier!  :-) !

I'm against fly agaric picking aswel - once finding out importance of its symbiosis to the tree its native to, you realize it is forbidden in that sense lol , I truly don't mean to not come across as some fungal snob lol  :boot:  ,just what research does I guess, more consideration to the purpose
About that, I reckon Wasson and John Allegro were bribed into saying it was fly Agaric - government churches knew just how close to a truth they were getting, those translations mentioned nothing of it being fly agaric and the paintings of it were much more later! that goes for ancient Hindu Soma aswel ..  psilocybin cubensis all the way.

back on topic here in the east coast of Anglia will be waiting till mid September, far to hot still here , although the rainfall has been great since spring, which should set it off nicely in a month to come with more wet weather no doubt, lets hope floods going easy in places up north this time round eh ?!!

Hello again, yeah it's still kinda dry here for mushrooms, i do get a lot of subbs so it's like summer has returned, the number of subbs has risen a lot, amanitas i don't find to have that much effect so i don't get down there much (opposite compass dial to the lib spots 5-6 mile away) i did find 3 liberty caps last night but the rain didn't hit the right places, all on the housing and not the moorland, very strange start to a season this year.

Nipping them off with the thumbnail has become second nature to me. It just seems intuitive that pulling clumps of mycelium out of the ground along with the fruit is counter productive.
It may not apply to libs, but as anyone who has ever grown cubes and harvested them by twisting/pulling rather than cutting them can testify, the next flush is often pulled out along with the fruit, in that you can see the 'knots or pins' attached to the base that would have have gone on to become full sized fruit themselves.
Apart from that. I don't really want to bag up dirt along with the fruits.

The symbiosis is between the mycelium and the tree root, each giving to, and recieving from the other what is useful to each organism.
As long as some fruits are left to mature enough to release their spores to the breeze to 'go do' their symbiotic thing with another plant, AFAIK, no lasting harm is done.

I tap them to possibly drop more spore, trim with snips leaving stembutt and leave a few picked caps in suitable habitat where they are not fruiting, yet. I let caps sporulate on my shoes/clothing sometimes too.
I've seen a friend bring a rake to rake heavy leaves/branches off a patch after a storm, once saw an old hippy near the edge of patch digging a small drainage trench to divert some standing water to it and am heavily contemplating midnight logging some cedar small cedar trees starting to mess up a spot. Kinda feel the need to ask something permission/give thanks to pick sacred fungi, so say a pre hunt prayer too.
:facepalm3:

Walked 11 mile yesterday between my usual spots and not a single lib. Thinks it is still far too early. Did find a new spot along the way that looked the perfect habitat so will wait for more rain and the temps to drop again.

i reckon i just got the timing off the first proper flush still ain't come yet, it's hard to predict when the weather things miles away, the sites are good but they don't archive properly and show what's needed, one day i'll make my own if i can get the live mast readings embedded, shouldn't be long though, gotta be this week or our climate is actually worse than i thought, it doesn't help that it goes from summer, into autumn weather then back to summer, it probably confuses the organism

If you're waiting on a PM reply don't worry I have taken a number of prints and should have these ready this week for trades/post, if you're interested in a print PM me and I'll work through them in order I can offer prints of the early fruiting spot that seems to start in July through to mid Oct and prints from specimens in my regular spots that tend to fruit later during the regular fungi season in the UK.
