Just wondering if it's worth bothering looking for libs if all the soils round me are basic? In the Bath area.

Hi. I went out for a walk this morning in my favourite pasture and what a lot of activity there was. It was a joy to look at and to take photographs of the emerging mushrooms.
Here in Yorkshire the weather over the last week or two has been drier than average but with the last few days moist weather and cooler evenings it has lead to the first proper flush of the season.
I was impressed at the sheer variety of Psilocybe semilanceata on show; some very small, some large - one particular mushroom struck me as a monster, which I photographed next to a £1 coin, but in the photo it looks smaller than it did in the field. I also noted the clear variety of colours exhibited in different individuals and different groups, whilst remaining sure they were all P. semilanceata. I observed two distinct looks, one more woody orange with dark brown gills and the other more of a chestnut and dark purple/ brown.
Anyway, here are some pictures.

Hi guys, have just moved to the south west, Plymouth area, and was wondering if it was worth going out this weekend in search of the psychedelic fruit? I know in the north I'd be out by now but since it's warmer down here I'm not sure if I'd be wasting my time or not.. Gotta look for new spots now too. Cheers.

I was in Cornwall last week and there were some over Bodmin, just starting and only a few, found about 40 out on 2 trips last week in Somerset, so you should be able to find something if you're lucky. If not, well you went for a lovely walk anyway

I found another 15 on my lunch break today. This is on Dartmoor and actually in the first place I ever found libs back in 2012. 300m elevation Soilscape 6 This is the most I've ever found in that particular area at any one time, there we're some pins as well but as usual I left them, doesn't seem right to snip them off in their prime, respect for the land you know?

If you're looking for new spots, now's the time to get out and check as many fields and places as you can, keep looking and ye shall find.

Talking about dreaming of libs, I often have one or two nights around this time each year when I dream about picking. Seems like they're calling out to us in our subconcious 'we're here, come and get us'. Had a weird dream the other night though, I started to pick normal libs in the dream then as I continued looking for them they turned into mini corn-cobs growing out of the ground, but the same colour, texture and smell as libs. I was picking all these mini corn-cobs off the field and putting them in a bag. I guess the corn-cobs are calling to me as well as the libs haha
Happy hunting everyone
awww that's so cute
I'll tell you what ain't cute. Turning up at a good producing field you've been mushin on for over 30 years, only to find that the farmers ploughed the fucker over to grow sweetcorn on it! I don't mind telling you, I filled my fucking pockets with that arseholes sweetcorn. Not only did the fucker ruin my best and closest lib field, the sheepdip ploughed over a public right of way!

Hi last night I decided to eat the 18 mushys that were dried out from mon/tues. I wasn't expecting a huge trip obviously, but then I didn't know what to expect coz I've not consumed in 20 odd years and u can never be sure of the psy. content. So I crumbled them to dust and rizla bombed em at 8pm. 25 mins later, I checked my mind and decided they were duds and sat back, watching land of the giants and the film frozen on horror channel, forgetting I'd even took em. I must of drifted off for a spell. When I looked at my blinds and room, I thought 'looks like the visuals u get when tripping' then pow it hit me, I was having a little trip! I checked the clock it was 10.25 when they hit. I sat up, checking the visuals round the room with a massive smile on my face. I was so happy, on my own in my own little world having a, I'd say half-trip. The TV advert was weird, the woman looked like she had dirt on her face in a weird way, or scabs. I was like yes, lets go. I can't explain the visuals I get when I'm tripping but it's like everything has an outline and it's like everything I see is like seeing it comic-book style. But better. So cool. The TV was strange, I couldn't read any writing it was blurred. The characters moved weirdly. I had about up to 2 hours from when I noticed my blinds until the mini trip started to wear off. I think the stand out memory from the trip was thinking they didn't do anything, forgetting I'd took owt (it's been 20 years) and thinking 'hey that looks acidic/looks like the visuals you get when tripping' - something I do anyway, without the use of cids. (A throwback from heavy tripping/a connoisseur of trippy visuals) And then realising I WAS actually tripping, albeit mildly. A happy and personal experience I thought I'd share with ya'll. Going picking today Peak District. See ya!

That's terrible, I can imagine how heartbroken you must have been to discover that.
Quote:
The Law for Farmers (The Rights of Way Act 1990) Ploughing and Cultivating
You must not plough or disturb the surface of:
Cross-field footpaths and bridleways that you can conveniently avoid; Footpaths or bridleways at the edge of the field and; Byways open to all traffic. ... The Highway Authority will take action against you if you fail to do so. It can:
Prosecute you and/or; Enter onto your land, carry out the works it thinks are necessary (sometimes to a wider 'maximum width') and recover the costs from you. Any person can bring a prosecution against you if you fail to keep a footpath, bridleway or other right of way clear of crops.
They should amend this law to prohibit ploughing of fields containing ancient mycelium networks, that should also fall under the Environmental Protection Act.

Well I enjoyed reading it so don't be ashamed. I took the 14 that I collected in the week last night. It's the first time I have ever done them, well I took 6 last week, that was a nice buzz, and last night well I wasn't expecting it to be that great, warm overwhelming nice mellow buzz, great closed eye visuals but waiting for the kids to come home so kinda dampened it a bit, but very worthwhile, and I only did it cause of all the help I have discovered here in this thread
