pic not working for me
-------------------- I give you the choice of 2 pills.
With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

So I think I may have found 3 lib caps. I've done a spore print which came out really quite black, so they could be inactive. But if anyone could give me a hand id'ing using the pictures that would be great

Apologies if the pictures aren't clear enough. My best guess for the gills would be adnexed.
Any help at all is appreciated.

Seconded. That is a lovely picture. I've got a lot of great pics of different species but i'm still yet to find a confirmed lib cap, but once I do, rest assured I will snap the shit outta that beauty!

Hi I've been out a few times over past few days and apart from one day a couple days ago when I found 18, I've not had much luck. I'm limited to local parks coz of transport but in my experience one can find just as many on a local cricket green/park than if traveling to national beacons and dales etc. My question is: I came across a local park at the end of a long unsuccessful day hunting today and on it there were loads of little 'other species' mushrooms - u know, the ones that are the same size etc and others that are similar colours, but poisonous, i.e. the wrong sort, but I thought 'this field could be promising..... lots of fungal activity......more so than I've seen anywhere else.......could be good in a couple weeks for liberty caps' Is the presence of other small mushrooms a good sign? Regards

Thanks people for the advice on the mushrooms we found earlier, we are planning on going out on saturday morning for a search, should be interesting! We are surrounded by hilly cow/sheep fields so we should have some luck.

Yeah, I'm always pleased to get up in the hills and enjoy the time up there, and if I can come away with any libs then that's a bonus really. As well as the enjoyment I get from hunting it's the added benefit of being in the great outdoors, getting good exercise, and if you're an early morning hunter like me, appreciating the amazing sunrises you can get at this time of the year.

That looks like a perfect hunting ground, when looking in new areas you seem to get a feel for the type of grass growing and soil you're walking on. I always get that excitement, thinking 'right, this is it'. Although I went out earlier for a look at a sheep field I've not been to before and found sweet FA even though it ticked all the right boxes, although this (250m West facing) was at lower ground than at the weekend (350m North facing).

Thanks both, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out considering it was taken on a smart phone. All of the other photos in my gallery were taken using a compact camera.
Talking about dreaming of libs, I often have one or two nights around this time each year when I dream about picking. Seems like they're calling out to us in our subconcious 'we're here, come and get us'. Had a weird dream the other night though, I started to pick normal libs in the dream then as I continued looking for them they turned into mini corn-cobs growing out of the ground, but the same colour, texture and smell as libs. I was picking all these mini corn-cobs off the field and putting them in a bag. I guess the corn-cobs are calling to me as well as the libs haha
Happy hunting everyone

No finds today but theres certainly alot of other fruits of the floor, found a man living in a field while crossing a boundary, he was a picker and confirmed my thoughts that were still about a week away, its amazing what you discover on some journeys
