Hi Blazey,
Happy hunting this year. We've spoke before I'm just up the road from you.
Could you tell me mate, are all of these mushies liberty caps?
I know the ones with the creamy coloured cap are, but those with the darker, vertically striped cap, and the ones with the wetter looking dark cap, are those libs too? I often see them growing right next to libs (as per one of your photos) but I'm never sure if they're the same species so I don't generally pick 'em.
I've been getting the itch to go out but think i might leave it a little while yet.

Yes, they are all liberty caps. The caps are hygrophanous, meaning they fade to a paler color in drying.

You are all lucky sob's. So pretty, so shiny, so yum. Nice finds, enjoy them!
What kind of weather are you peeps having on the island, though? I mean, it's awfully hot and humid here right now. I thought those weren't lib cap conditions at all?

high 22c[71f] low 14c[62f] and stormy every few days it was 35c[95f] a few days ago, i think when the temps drop it begins but for some reason continues even when it rises again, we've gone from 3 up to to 35 and now we're dropping again to around 18 degrees weird weather, very hot n humid here too, i think they are just hardwired to fruit from temp drop till frost providing there is rain even when the temps go back up it never seems to end till they drop below 0 and it starts to freeze

It's been the same here. A shame, I should've gone looking earlier! Found some potential fields last year and was hoping to find my first wild ones after two unsuccesful seasons. But hey, summer'll end sometime.
Happy hunting!

This is very interesting. I read John Allen saying semilanceata has been found in India where it it's too warm for them too fruit as a cold weather mushroom. The ones I found at 17 degrees S looked like semilanceata but they were bigger on average. Love the images showing the bluing Blazeyy

Yeah i think they are a lot more gritty than people think they handle extreme changes well, if anything it seems to boost them, they seem to enjoy stressful climate snaps and all pop up they have very strong stipes based on their proportions which i think gives them an edge they can reach to top of most grass because they don't topple in the wind as much as others

Hi all, found a few growing in Cumbria today, but only one was big enough to pick... going back in a few days to check on the babies!!
This was on the lower of the 2 fields I pick, did not have time to get up to my higher ground field today but will be going in the next few days.... higher field altitude is 416 m (1365 ft), so Im hopeful there will be quite a few considering the lower surrounding field.
I dont actually own a smart phone so no photo's of todays find...but will be with someone who has a camera phone when I revisit!

Well, i'm a lightweight i had everyone of them (1.7g) in lemon juice and hardly had any visuals but i lost the ability to detect whether my earplug headphones was in or not, also massive loud electric noises (much like serotonin zaps but an explosion of it) in the end i got so confused i just had to turn everything off, it wasn't a bad time or anything but that paralysis and loss of ability is not fun, i'm pretty sure the alkaloids are massively different in these early ones because the visual activity didn't add up to the dosage it didn't even feel like liberty caps it felt like an RC or something the serotonin acitivity was blatant, pure euphoria and then zaps, the comedown today feels like ive had unclean molly i used to get when i was a kid (i get good molly now).
Very strange, i ain't giving up though, i'll retry it but i'm gonna give it a month or so before i try again plus i need to find more anyway, i would of liked some visuals, usually 1g would give me intense visuals it was like the ratios was way off lol.
Looking forward to seeing more photos, after all i do it mostly for the photos and mycology, it's still quite aggravating though because i know it's a chemical imbalance in either me or the mushrooms.

I had a damn interesting experience on 5g dried pale/albino yesterday morning providing insane visual edge but a really clear head, I'm away out for some fresh air just now but will post later with some more detail.

Got tired of waiting for them to appear down at sea level, so I went hunting for them in the hills. Found these bad boys at around 1800 feet (NW Wales). There didn't seem to be much of anything any lower down. Not exactly a king's ransom but very happy with the results of my first ever trip. Bonus larvae in pic 2, shroom 16 for the eagle eyed! Looking forward to exploring all over the place once the weather cools a little.

Is the seaason back on then ? I can never gauge, I usually think it's mid August time, but looks like there's some at higher (appropriate) altitudes. Generally is it better to look once it's dry again after it's rained?
Found a lot last year, hoping for a bigger haul this year.
