I checked my closest spot yesterday and didn't find anything, the grass seemed way overgrown so I'm thinking perhaps the cows haven't been there this year, I'm contemplating checking the fields around it in a minute. I'm disqualified from driving at the moment so I can't get to the best field without getting someone to drive me there.

Anybody had joy around the Flintshire/Cheshire area? I'm right on the border and temps are dropping, just wondering if others have had results.

I went out for a stroll earlier today but found nothing. Has any one had any luck down South? I'm thinking it's a tad to early as days still seem relatively warm.
I'm wondering also if altitude is a big factor for success or is it just temperature? I'm nearly at sea level where I am.

I'm getting fed up of trekking for fek all now...
I'm on the verge of giving up tbh, I know the temp has just dropped with plenty of rain the last few days and there's plenty of time yet but just one find would have been nice and kept the interest up a little.
It's been nice getting out with the dogs though atleast...

Sorry !
If it's any use I'm collecting at 186 m / 612 feet on a massive lawn...
Perhaps some of you are trying too hard, you'll find them even on playing fields in towns. I've had many years where I found nothing, I lived in the scottish borders for a couple years in the middle of nowhere in a wee cottage and despite searching found nothing locally, I know they were out there though as the previous tenant was a space cadet and a graduate of the university of liberty caps

- na the thread started early in the higher altitudes, for rest of uk is around about now... after rain, first rains and winds of true taste of autumn is when. which for here - lowestoft, suffolk was truly Friday on wards,it was bang on start of October pretty much, a short scout 2moz to ma spots with ma bro will confirm, ,at least for Suffolk/Norfolk, if that's the case then south mid west England has 100% begun , judging by the last few years around here anyways
hazydaze , google earth is your companion, spend a Saturday ''getting lost'' out in the sticks where u know sheep/horse/cow are or have been, google earth may hav snaps of grazing animals as u cycle through the years or of the last 4 , - or atleast if its a seasonal cycle of grazing on a field then bonus maybe.. if not on one despite, dont give up just try another, but google earth allows you to plan.. if asked what ur doin, be straight, and say I'm out enjoying this fresh air picking autumn fruits.. done.
don't let altitude n shit confuse , or sea level stuff.. I don't, just plan your walks/cycle/drive what ever where u know animals graze or do but empty as I said, even better

why all this done ? one more go,.. lol cuuumon get ur spirit in, feel that fire in ur belly n enjoy the trek, the seasons peak is mid toward the end of October........... at all equal lengths of country
relax and let the autumn rains do their thing, which they will...
Christ the storms aint even hit yet.. which they will.....
don't let the early start of the thread make you think its over, libs from high elevations from late July does not imply the season begun, dam was like 2months ago, give it now and a week and you will stumble upon the numbers especially when autmn peaks and calls in the rains, everyone seems to forget the fact the storms are yet to come, I remember picking pissin it down, and blowing a gale,if it weren't for the fact I had found a patch in numbers I would of caught the next train soaked! ..
heres that reminder of last years storms that came along,, not that anyone should need it.. so jus be aware autumn really only just begun. September was like summer still for the most part..
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/uk-storm-centre/2015-16
some of those storms that came really fucked with the growth patterning's,some of which stopped them dead in their tracks... was my observation there in comparison to 2014 with not half as many storms that hit, some of them fuck with the temps and there was no restbite between each that passed the uk

Totally agree! I have an early fruiting patch which still has me bamboozled why it starts so early so don't guage off my finds, don't give up, most places in the UK the season has only just got started

Managed to pick a few goodies next to the path during a short walk on Dartmoor in the South West.
Seems to be fruiting nicely up there at the moment!
Will hopefully get a chance for a proper hunt next weekend!
