Hi all
Please could someone give their thoughts on my two finds ? I posted earlier and yesterday also. Don't want to make a mistake and screw this up - happy to hear I have failed if it means not poisoning myself Thanks all Bert

Psy thanks mate - i almost missed that little message at the bottom of your post!
Can you confirm that the ones i wasnt sure about are also libs? The more i think about it they probably are - so if you can confirm that you were confirming those that would be great also.
Thanks a lot bud! Im not quite sure what to do with myself! Might just trip alone- its been ages, think last time i was at uni about 8 years ago
One other question, im just drying them out on like kitchen towel, which after two days makes the libs super dry. Im also reading people use Dessicatan or something (silica gel) , but i just put my first lot in an airtight container (like an airtight picnic box) covered in foil ( no idea why ive done that... but whatever) and stuck them on the top shelf of my fridge. Is that extra silica gel step really necessary?
If so - do i need to sort that out quickly? Thanks all for help

Last thing i need to know is is it really necessary to add a drying agent? It is very dry where i live and not humid at all - im sure just having them on kitchen towel for 2-3 days will be enough to do the job? Im then putting in airtight container and covering that with foil - and into the fridge.
Thanks All B

Went for a wonder today through liberty valley, wasn't expecting to find a single soul (even inactive) due to having 2 or 3 ground frosts here in Flintshire, I didn't even bring a carrier or container. Yet surprisingly I found at least 100 or so mushrooms, some more mangy than others yet still not rotten; all good in my book. Winter seems to bring a large amount of mishapen/odd looking specimens, some of them are almost cylindrical tapering to a point, whilst others have wide flat caps. A difference in colour seems to occur also as a few mushrooms have a sort of caramel colour. I'm sure of the identity of all but one (pictured below) as it has a thicker stem than expected yet has all other lib characteristics. Can anyone verify please?

Changes in weather conditions will often affect the appearance of mushrooms.

Hi,
Complete noob here, I've never seen a Liberty Cap before, but today I found this and a few others in my Christmas tree pot (lives outside all year) when I went to repot it. I've had a look online as much as I can but I wanted to know from experienced eyes because they all seem to look so varied in images online. I know it's paler than a lot I've seen in pictures, but It was further down in the pot so wasn't exposed to much light or air (if that makes any difference!). It was about 1cm across. I live in the south east of England. I don't intend to make use of them if they are, just curiosity!

Fuzzy - nice one
berti - either use a fan or dehydrator , air flow important or they'll shrivel up, or pose go moldy depending on how saturated, don't place in the fridge , unless u storing them for years ,then put in the freezer, no point fridge , unless your doing something specific I guess?... but mine happily sit in an airtight jar with no worries.
LauraG - hi, u never seen a lib before , well look again and what they look like till your certain of its appearance ,they all got their own characters, compare them more till you know that what you have there , despite its habitat being wrong also, will tell you yourself it is not..none the less tho, its a pretty lil thing - all the best
Mushi1 - na fraid not.
cheers

Reasonably sure about these, but I'd love somebody to confirm for me, safety first and all that.

Hey Ok thanks will remove from fridge.
They havent shrivelled up, they have just got a lot smaller, and sort of crack when i try to snap one - seem bone dry to me. They are tiny compared to how they were when picked them
I left them on some pieces of kitchen roll, in a room that has good air flow, window left open for two days etc. Im worried now about your comment of them shrivelling up :s
They have definitely got smaller - surely thats just the water has escaped them
Best Bert

well , u knw what I mean.. shrivel up and old ones turn black if don't dry with good air flow and if they saturated,.. na don't worry sound all good , you would have to do the same to anything you wanted to store that you pick from woods or fields etc, fan helps a lot if they soaked was more ma point and the fridge thing, coz moisture may build up in return mold..
food dehydrators are a worthy investment for the seasons to come

Thank you kindly. I may go out again tomorrow seeing as their still around, the weather forecast says its going to freeze overnight , will that kill off any shrooms above ground level?
