ah mate you're making me excited now!! The field that I've picked all of my liberty caps from this season is one that I found by accident. it's really flat around my way so I've got to bike at least 14 miles to reach some hills but I love cycling so I don't mind it, in fact I actually enjoy it and like you say it's and adventure (trip) in it's self just being out and about enjoying nature and picking them.
When I wen't out out for a days hunting I had cycled about 11 miles and decided to have a break and smoke a few pipes of weed so I turned off the road I was on and I see this field with a gate and a public footpath sign so I thought perfect place to stop off.
So I lifted my bike over and lent my bike up and decided to have a look over the other side of the field and I walked through one half and there was loads of mushrooms... but no liberty caps so I traipsed through this boggy entrance where the cattle passed into another field with carrier bags tied around each foot lol
I walked about 20 foot into the field and I squatted down to load my pipe and I see a fresh liberty cap in front of my wet and slimy, it had just appeared that morning so I paused and looked around and I just see one then another and three more, they where everywhere!!!
I put my pipe back into my pocket and got a bag out and started picking, It was a beautiful day as well with dew droplets on the grass and slight fog along the floor where the sun was evaporating the moisture.
I picked close to 100 that day and was well chuffed, I'd left loads of immature ones that hadn't opened there gills yet and when I wen't back the seccond time I was rewarded with some massive libs but not quite as big and meaty as yours but not far off.
I searched the connecting fields but there just wasn't any more.... at this precise time. I wen't back a week later and the joining field had 260+ in it and lots more pinners
Anyway I'm waffling after a couple of henry weston ciders.... Enjoy your shrooms Psymind and wish me luck! Cheers!

darrrius , sure was! although I much prefer day , just that some I don't av much of a choice..love to see the sun kissing them, the hazy autumn/winter mist and dew drops, birds singing, cant beat it
cant help but think there's sneaky rouge or two.. but not certain enough to say, there was someone earlier on few pages back that had blue snaky one, stropharia kind I think some one mention, maybe alright but worth knowing :-) and one next to it looks sus, a pan,i maybe fooled by the lighting, what you rekon?.. edit - na looking back seeing them in your other pics, think those 2 are good, just looked a lil on the brown pan side was all,has dried differently to the rest, 2bh I'm still unsure haha ..
 - its that one , that of the red circled but dry.. bugging me , one min I think it is the next I don't
libs rory , but wait on ti to be 100%.
Mb - yeh that's the spirit! I did the plastic bag thing before I got me wellies haha... I hitch a train along with my bike , then the cycling begin. gunna take spores from the meaty ones and deliver it somewhere in water ,syringe inject into a habitable area,im gunna hope to assume it may produce the same size mushrooms..., dna may predetermine sizes, shapes and whether will be sterile, just like they do with sterile ones on a certain part of the patch, every year same part same patch sterile ones! ... also all those dusty spores at the bottom of a jar/container ,im gunna put in water , and syringe it into the ground, good looking habitats that been grazed on... see what happens,, good luck

Thanks for pointing that one out Psy... its the only one I was doubting a bit too - firstly because it was so huge, but also looks a slightly different colour when drying. As Anglerfish said - it does look quite a bit like some P.Mexicana having looked them up on google image search. I do think it is a lib though - it was growing right in a patch with others and just looked like the grandaddy of the patch.
Interested to get others opinions on this specimin - safe its a Lib?
Mohamadbear - yeah I'm on there but not as darrrius. You'll know me but i'm not going to tell my username Great season you had fella!

Never seen P. mexicana irl, but I've seen pictures that look quite close to our liberty caps. There is a similarity. I guess your one is a liberty cap since you found it together with them.

Hi guys im back again and wandering if i could get an ID on a couple of mushrooms im not quite 100% sure on im fairly sure there libs but would feel better having them looked over by some other more experienced pickers in the pictures of the second one ignore the smaller one also in my hand as i know that definitely is a lib. Peace

I did originally think tht 2ma self as well, the fact they all near proximity, and also due to the fact its also on a public park,no grazing, and where there is pan is sheep/cow/horse shite,so may not even be a pan .. strange, but for some annoying reason I'm caught between not knowing if it is or not , like trying to remember a song from years back , I wont be fooled by the nipple tho for sure, as other species got it going on too. Darrrius,i thought to myself you may of also doubted in all honesty, id say take another snap now it being drier, with it sitting next to a liberty, close up of em both side by side standing up like they are in that pot

If I have any doubts about a mushroom being a liberty cap I just throw it back into the grass. There shouldn't be any doubt at all when picking them. I must have picked thousands during the last two decades and I can usually tell if a mushroom is a liberty cap or not standing up, a few feet away from where it is growing. Any doubt, chuck it out

Walked along Hadrian's Wall yesterday and found less than I have fingers in nearly 5 hours walking... there were plenty of other species around, so I think the local psychadelic society must have been on an outing from Newcastle

Could anybody ID these two odd bods for me please, they were found among libs but they are looking more like some kind of cubensis species (which I know is impossible). The stems are very thick and the caps feel sort of slimy as oppose to the regular sticky feeling of liberty caps. Also the cap has bruised blue where damaged, you can kind of see it on the mushroom closest to the camera. Thanks.

They look like rotten/waterlogged Inocybe or Cortinarius to me, I wouldn't eat them because there are a lot of toxic mushrooms in those genera.

Thanks for your reply, I was suspicous of them but with your advise I've now binned them. Almost all of the shrooms I picked today are waterlogged due to constant rain, none of them have turned to mush just yet so I'm about to begin heat drying them under a desk lamp.

I have also realised that I've accidentally picked another non active as well (top one) it has also been binned, its next to a definite lib for comparison.
