I found quite a few 'albinos' this year, it is apparently because they are sterile and have no spores. I chucked them too... can't be too careful
I was just coming here to ask your opinions on something like this. I found some almost perfect specimens with freakish colours and wondered why the gills were so pale, the cap such an off-colour, whilst everything else matches up 100% with what I look for in a lib. It was in a field flush with libs all around, I would have normally just left them up there (I always err on the side of caution) but I was curious to know what's going on. I'm 99.9% certain they're Psilocybe Semilanceata, but why the white gills and pasty caps?

I had one almost identical to that yesterday...got a few spores from it, and they looked ok through my cheap ass field microscope.
Was quite sure it was a liberty cap, but binned it anyway, because it didn't conform

Me and a friend went picking in the peak district yesterday, picked 80 decent sized libs, got back and consumed 40 each plus half a gram of dried each at 18:00pm.
Very strong come up, similar to MDMA, got very dizzy, we both had full body rushes and it started to get quite intense and we were both laughing hysterically. We decided to go for a bike ride, whist riding we couldn't stop laughing at the thought of someone seeing us. Managed to get on a quiet country road and decided to go to this wood we both knew, road was lit by moon light and looked amazing, so did the clouds, I could genuinely see the jokers face at one point. we both started to struggle to ride the bikes and needed to lay down, we went to this wooded area were there was a barrier about waist height which took me about 10 mins to get over I couldnt decide to go under or over, my friend was lying down but I couldnt keep still and kept pacing, kept going hot and cold taking my hat and gloves off and then failing to put them back on, my left glove was in pieces lol we decided to go somewhere else and went into another field and started watching cars on the motorway from a distance and looking at the night sky, we both felt really euphoric. We decided we needed to get home because we were both in a mess but realised we couldnt do it on or own, when we thought we knew what we were doing, it would turn into chaos again. We had to call our friend to come and pick us up and dump the bikes in a bush, there's no way we could of made it back, we were both really confused, similar to ketamine and I started to worry about or safety on the bikes. Also felt a bit sick heaved a few times but couldnt be sick. Anyway got back to a warm house put some music on, felt really good now, had some deep thoughts about reality, kept questioning it, The whole room was breathing and morphing, music was sounding amazing and started to mix with other senses and gradually wore off whilst we were chatting and drinking beers, while laughing alot about having to leave the bikes. Went to bed at 1am and slept fine, overall a very powerful, fun experience, whilst worrying slightly at times. Anybody offer any thoughts on what level trip this was?

Old toby I get those on a certain part of the ground, mycelium every time of the year, about 7 of them all look the same and like what you have there., the shape before it becomes the shape always the same that part of the ground - sterile, every year without fail, within the mycelium seems oddly already predetermined characters - no need to chuck them tho whats that all about? .. but strange about them popping out certain part every year,
but yeh they 100 % libs , I know the lib when I see one and so will everyone eventually here that seeks it
anyways not long back from a night hunt - ground frost , I was dropping my libs in a pyrex dish , sounded like I was dropping stones in it.... they were pretty much frozen, this has seemed to of halt growth by half,.... but not necessarily means the season is over, takes a good few hard frosts in rows ime so far, however winds from the west will eventually rise the temps after this so called 'polar vortex' - according to 'Met' shifts from the NW.......

If in doubt, chuck it out, is precisely what that was all about
I don't seem to have any trouble finding one's I can confidently identify where I live, and only partake a few times a year, so why take any risks?

I have no doubt that you have more experience and I value and appreciate your comments. However, the third set of pictures showing a whitish cap were definitely wet, the umbo was translucent. I know what hygrophanous is, and these caps were that. If they were the same as the first two sets of pictures they must have been sterile. I still think they were P. semilanceata... not with enough confidence to keep them, but they shared enough characteristics (had purple ovoid spores and dried to buff) to make me want to argue the toss!
All academic anyway, they are back in the ground

Bredda.... LiberT -
 wet ones of this
don't know what they is , but not libs,i feel they the same species of the silver ones, just soaked thru.. as I say though libs can spread their caps out like that..
sterile libs appear tan orange not silver
when I said bout the others, no need to chuck em as in, you coulda got em checked and confirmed as active sterile lib before chuckin em
yes back to the ground - the frozen ground , that hopefully does not carry on..although its now raining, wont make a difference if it freezes over again in land tonight, will slow it right down if not stop it if persists more than a week, although temps meant to rise by then .. NW of uk got it worse
mono - libs there

@PsyMindz86
I hear ya, but the caps in the third image were wet... the umbo would not have been translucent if they were dry, so I think they were sterile versions of the first two.
They may well not be libs, but they differed only in how the cap was shaped, and I have not been able to identify them as anything else (with my limited skills and resources). I think I have some more pics of caps like the white/silver one's, but looking much more like the classic lib cones.
I'm near the north east coast... getting damn cold, but I'll have a wander tomorrow to see if there is still any fruit, as it is plenty wet enough now

So, I saw what you said blazeyy about keeping on going even though there's some ground frost, but when do we call it a day? When the snow lays ? You said something about the sun, couldn't fathom that.
I'll still be going out regardless for the scenery, but curious as to when to call it a day scouting.

Went on my first lib hunt to North Wales on Sunday and was quite pleased with my haul, considering I didn't have much luck until the last hour or so!
P.S. I love this thread!
