How does my agar look?

Went to check on my agar today. PDA pre mix. First time doing agar and just wondering if it should look like this. All were inoculated from MS syringe.

Can't really see what's going on in there. Try taking some pics with light shining throught he back of the plate, it might show the growth a little.
As long as it is organised, you will be fine.

Ift looks like you are growing bacteria cultures and not cube mycelium. That MIGhT be GT mycelium in the plates labelled golden teacher. But the other plates that have the thick white mycelium with the orange centers don't look like anything you want.

I was thinking the same. The orange centre is structured around a clump of spores so my thinkin is it may be a contamination from the spore syringe itself. What do you think I should do? Toss and start from a clean grain? From a colonised jar of course.

I think the orange is because of the light, where the mycelium is thicker. From the little I can see it does seem disorganised though and quite possibly bacterial.
No one can tell for sure with the quality of the pics though.
This is what you need to aim for.
Non-rhizomorphic mycelium. This is not a cube but it's the only pic I have which isn't rhizomorphic. You can still see how the mycelium is organized and looking clean.

Rhizomorphic mycelium. Again, notice how it is organized, there are no patches and it's growing in a circle, more or less.

This is also not a cube but I think it's worth showing because it's kind of midway between rhizomorphic and tomentose. Notice the satellite contams between 5-7o'clock. Even though this mycelium looks clean, I still couldn't use it for jars due to the mold spots.

Thanks for the clarification. Gonna bin them, got plenty of dishes and agar left so not really fussed about it. Just hard to ascertain what is what and what is bad when I have never undertaken agar work before. Cheers

If bacteria is the problem, you don't have to throw away the plate. The only time it's a lost cause is when you have meshed in mold.
Bacteria can be eliminated with just 1 transfer, just take a transfer to a new plate, flame the scalpel again and cut off a square of agar from the new plate to cover your transfer. What happens is that the mycelium will grow through the agar while the bacteria is unable to do that. Once it breaks the surface, just scrape some mycelium without digging in the agar and transfer that to a new plate. If done right, this will always get you clean mycelium.
If the plate is still very young, it can be disorganised because of that. Sometimes it takes 2-4 transfers for mycelium to start looking organized after spore germination.
You should always try to clean contaminated cultures if you can, it's the best practice you can get.

If it is the first plate or first plate of a tissue transfer, spore inoc, etc.
You MUST trasfer myc as soon as you see it. First plates are Dirty Birds, esp if it's from spores or tissue. Letting a first plate colonize out and using it as inoculum is a great way to harbor ride along contams that might not show up until it's in a tub or jar because it's being suppressed on the plate
