Spor Print Petri Dish cracked is it usable?

Hey everyone, a friend ordered a print from a reputable supplier a while back (6+ Mths) The actual postage bag was never opened and maintained in another ziplock bag also.
A friend just set everything up and started prepping for making a syringe, opened the outer ziplock bag, and opened the envelope. The Print is in a petri dish within a ziplock bag that is sealed and has no holes etc, however, the petri dish seems to have a hairline crack and there are spores in the bag,
Is this still usable? (has not been exposed to any air from my friends end at all)
Thank you

The bag is probably clean enough itself, but I would use the ones in the petri as you should have plenty to work with.
You say it came from a reputable supplier, I would not want prints arriving on petris, for this very reason -risk of cracking.

recently revisited their site and they only use foil now, must be why haha. Friend said it all went well, friend had a spare span bag so has innoc'd a share bag to check for contams first, advisable or should friend just inner all bags?

Should definitely use agar though, even ziplocks are not air tight. Petris are not airtight either.

never looked into agar, might get my friend too suss it now. Friend's other tub is about 13 days in fruiting with no pins, so times split finding out why lol.

It's normal for some varieties to take longer to pin. My PE won't pin before 2 weeks. APE is the same and I think even KSSS takes longer.

My first grow log I grew 17 different substrates with 9 different varieties (none of them PE) that took over a month to have all of them first flush pin. Fruited them all at the same time too. Some were on their 3rd flush by the time others pinned their first.
Made me realize that as long as there's no visible contams, they just pin when they want. All you can do is make sure you're giving them what they need.

Ahh true, thats the consensus ive been reading, friends been just dialling in the tub to create better conditions as much as possible, learning alot on the way regarding if it looks too dry or too wet etc.. so its not a real burden having to wait. Just teaches more. 0 contams so happy haha.
So if agar is a medium then do you use a syringe to the agar or straight print to the agar?

Yes, you can use either a syringe or a print. With a syringe, you flame the needle, squirt a drop on the table and then use the next drop to inoculate your plate. 1 drop is all it takes. With a print, you get your loop/wire, flame it, cool it down in the agar and scrape some spores off the print to inoculate your plate with. Some like to streak the agar with the loop, I like to stab the agar as well. Stabbing the agar with a spore laden loop will sandwich a bunch of spores between the agar which I feel aids in germination.

Ah awesome, just looked into different recipes for it, will have to order online for most of it haha. But will definitely be more helpful than tanking several spawn bags
