Do you live in a place where you see them often?
Have you had any interesting experiences involving them?

Yep, I've heard of Bohemian Grove.

Lets not go down the conspiracy route, and just stick to answering the questions please.

When I was growing up, I lived next to a river. One night when I was about 12 I was down at the river with my dog, fishing for eels. After fishing for a couple of hours, I decided to go home. It was a moonless night, totally pitch black. I'm stumbling up the riverbank through the long grass, and walking towards a stand of willow trees near my house. Next thing I became aware of a beating noise, whup whup whup whup. I turn my torch to my dog, who is behind me. He's sitting there looking beady eyed at me, like "what, I'm not making that noise". So I turn back around and as I do I catch in my torchlight the massive round yellow eyes of an owl, dropping down out of a willow tree flying straight at me. Whup whup whup whup whack. The thing flew right into my head. Seriously full throttle straight to the face, bam. Whup whup whup whup, off it flew. I just stood there thinking wtf just happened. Freaked me right out. I couldn't understand that it would have just flew into me by accident, owls being the grand masters of nocturnal aviation and all. Couldn't get to sleep that night, thinking that must have been some bad omen right there.

Still here today. Owls are OK.

Thats a killer story lol saint pedro.

my only experience with owls, is this.
there are a few that either live near my house in the woods, or just visit frequently.

i can go out on the porch or in the woods nearby and either they are already making the owl sound, or i can do it with my hand and they will start .. there is usually anywhere from 1 close by -- 2 or 3 in the distance..

but as far as philosophy goes, i have thought about them, but i have never really came up with anything.

I get this idea that they are some sort of all knowing creature, they watch and they see so much that they are probably very wise creatures, but like saintpedro was saying how one flew into him, perhaps they are bad at doing and better at telling you how to do it lol idk.

what are your thoughts on the owl op?

wow, very interesting, thank you for sharing!!!

Definitely strange that it crashed into you, like you said, being the amazing nocturnal hunters that they are.  Maybe it was after your fish bait.  Did you scratch or rub your face after handling bait?

How long will they play with you after you start making the owl sounds?  Until you stop, or do they usually stop first?

thanks for responding!

I'm not trying to be mean, I just want to hear pubbers legit experiences, and thoughts on owls, without getting this thrown into the conspiracy forum.

I meant no offense.

Usually if I initiate it they will go until i leave the woods, or just stop after a while if i dont do it back or there arent any other owls nearby to howl back at them.

One of my favorite things to do is to go out with my guitar and get them calling, and play along with my guitar, now for this i only have to do it once or twice and they will go for as long as i go back in.. although I will periodically call back to let them know im still there.

to me it sounds like a very lonely call, and i being the lonely person i am, find great comfort in the company of the owl .

I like to think that the owls around here like singing along to my guitar and also enjoy my company lol

I can't honestly remember. I always used bacon when fishing for eels. Funnily enough, the owls where I live are called "moreporks". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morepork

So maybe this one had gone one too many nights without delicious bacon. A kamikaze bacon fuelled rage owl, perhaps.

Thats pretty funny.

Bacon...jesus.  Maybe it was a human dressed as an owl tryin to get those crispy stix lol.

Bacon might be more addicting than heroin to most people.

Did it fall on the ground after it crashed into you?

"morepork" the irony.

and nothing extravagant .. mostly just something slow, sustained, something that compliments the tone of their call..

its kind of just like im the bass player for the bird you know

Haha, I was totally aghast when it happened. But it can't have crashed to the ground, because my dog would surely have had it for supper.

A couple of excerpts from the wiki article:

"their main hunting technique is perch-and-pounce". Well, that's reassuring.

"They hunt a variety of animals". True that.

"they are agile birds with a swift, goshawk-like wing action and the ability to manoeuvre rapidly". Yeah I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one.

wow, I didn't put that together until you mentioned it.  Morepork...bacon...how synchronous!!

I play guitar, I'm going to give it a shot.  I've never seen a live owl around where I live, but they are around here for sure.

You like to play guitar solos, chord progressions, or both?

Thanks for asking....

I just recently started looking into owls and the history of owls this past week after having some absolutely bizarre and synchronous events involving owls happen to me in the last week.  After doing research, I see that throughout history they are tied into the ideas of being messengers of transformation, ufo's, occult history, positive vibes, negative vibes, good luck, bad luck, and all sorts of other things.  Many of these ideas would be better discussed in the spirituality forum or conspiracy forum, and that's why right now I'm just asking for peoples experiences...

As of now, I thinks its a beautiful bird, which is just as unique as many of the other lifeforms on this planet.

You can always PM me if you have anything else you want to share about owls involving the above ideas....

When I was 18 the first animal I ever hit while driving was an enormous owl just standing in the middle of the lane.  That's the only one I have ever seen.
