Primordia is triggered by light. so it the sides of your jars are exposed to light they will form there. IF they do not find their way to the top of the substrate, they will rot, and contamination will ensue. I would break the jar, and case it in a shallow opaque tray. your gunna have trouble getting mushies out of the quart jars anyway.

Pie Pans work the best for me... cant remember who suggested it, but Props anyway.

Thanks! I too realized that the shrooms definitely had to come out of the jar, but instead of breaking it I turned it on it's side, then used a sterilized spoon & butcher knife to carefuly divide the substrate into large chunks & removed them. The chunks of substrate are now comfortably resting in a plastic container on a bed of perlite.
Shroomies are now growing upward!
