Pigs ears and Turkey tails
    #23415878 - 07/06/16 02:51 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hi all, was wondering if there is a more definitive way of identifying pigs ears/jelly ears as the ones I picked arent leaving spores, and the turkey tails i picked arent leaving any spores as well, does this mean not real ones or just not old enough or something else?

post pics good pics of the top and bottom and we will be able to ID both of these species no problem.

I don't think either is known to be a prolific spore producer, and if they have dried out a bit already you may not get a good print

Here are new pics plus a few shots of some cool Muscaria and something growing out of a pine cone. But can anyone confirm the turkey tails or pigs ear or tell me what the whites are? None are leaving spores

The first three images are T. versicolor/ turkey tails. If you look at the underside you will see tiny pores. Look at the key at the bottom of this webpage to compare. That being said they look a bit past prime to me. Some of them are faded and or have algae growing on them I would try to find some fresher ones to make tea/medicine/extracts

the 4th and 5th image is Peziza sp. These aren't the typical jelly ear you are looking for (Auricularia auricula) unfortunately.

The mushroom on the pine cone is more than likely a mycena sp.

and that is indeed Amanita muscaria.

Thanks leschampignons! shame about the turkey tails but there are plenty there to find fresher younger ones. Disappointed the jelly ears are't the ones i'm looking for but now have something to compare to. Any idea what the white ones are growing out of the debris? Pic 6,7 and 8? Thanks for all the help
