Searching for the inner-light
    #23416655 - 07/06/16 11:24 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

I'm In a bad situation, in which I lack purpose. I live only to work 9 hours, smoke weed for 5 and sleep for 10 hours, daily. I was once dedicated to a search of enlightment, but have derailed since employment 4 years ago. I've been looking into studying certain spiritual philosophies in combination with mind altering substances. hinduism looks appealing, but so does buddhism and even Judaism, I do not know how to go about this search. I have tried the "find it within oneself" method but the discipline does not stick.
What philosophy/study/scripture has gotten you through dark times?
feel free to suggest anything.

Terence McKenna is what I listened to during dark times.

However, nothing got me through those times the way growing and dosing myself with my own mushrooms did.

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

From my own journey, I've come to the realisation that all spiritual paths are essentially the same. Perhaps that's why you find yourself interested in several different paths, because at their centre they point the way to the same essential truth. However, none of the various spiritual paths out there are the truth. They are like maps, pointing the way and guiding you to your own discoveries, and how to find that "inner light".

Personally, it's the very dark times that pushed me towards a spiritual path, and I think that's the point. It seems like the entire purpose of "negative" and uncomfortable experiences is to push us towards evolution and to make us grow. If we were all happy and content all of the time, there would be nothing spurring us on to discover who we truly are and we would remain in stasis.

A book I would really recommend is The Power Of Now by Eckhard Tolle, if you haven't already read it. Any path that encourages meditation I would also recommend, because along with many physical, emotional, and mental benefits, it also shows you through observation that you might not actually be your mind, your emotions, your body, or your experiences. If that's the case, the it begs the question - who are you?

If you are interested in a step-by-step guide to meditation and the spiritual path, check out The Lucid Sky. It's the place that has really brought everything together for me personally, but YMMV. Here is a link to a podcast that might help you decide if it's what you are looking for or not. Lucid Sky Podcast Episode 1

Love is from the infinite, and will remain until eternity.
The seeker of love escapes the chains of birth and death.
Tomorrow, when resurrection comes,
The heart that is not in love will fail the test.

The day we start giving Love instead of seeking Love, we will have re-written our whole destiny.

There's a trick to this.
to embrace our own self, or God, we must break the spell of simulation that we live under. Whether or not we know it, very few people, are self reliant. once enlightenment is reached we feel we are connected to people better, which is true, but with this comes a great urge from our ego- to be plugged back into the matrix, to feel joy, and pain, and to have extremes. This, ive found, can be overcome by imagining that we are the only person on the planet, and developing the perspective that you need nobody but yourself and God. the 7 sins, then have nowhere to manifest, because they only do so through the reception of other people. When you no longer fear loneliness, you can truly embrace God and self reliance. Peace be with you

this thread made me smile - for the intro and the rest. . . so - dear friend -- you are the light. . . . your job, your work -- everything is light. . . . to embrace this is a big help. . .

there's a beautiful quote by Amma... along the lines of "True love, that which illumines and awakens, is not the love we receive, but the love we give."

her whole path is basically that of selfless love to others, and serving the poor and needy - as well as - help heal the earth / environment.

D'Angel - Stronger

my first thought was music... ( earlier in the day )

'i float away stress
'i float away pain
i float away hurt
i float away shame
i float away things
that disturb my brain'

and when i was meditating just now, ^^ came to mind :sun:  specifically the last part -- see there's a lot of stuff in the world -- and a lot of illusion created upon illusion.

in deed a lot of our culture is like this -- but the key and the secret is we can change it. . . we create our culture and world. . . but --

1 thing is taking back power for yourself.... this is (among) the most important. . . . choose to create your life, and -- this isn't necessarily about avoiding 'bad' things. . . although , this is significant some times ;

also possible to create an immunity to such stuff, and this is a good path to regain self-sovereignty. . .. i very much recommend it

otherwise i very much creative activities. . . music again, the right kinds can awaken . . .

creative writing though. . . could be a big help. that's my best advice, kinda. . . .write -- write -- write.  write a ton -- write thousands of poems. ..  this helps learn about oneself . . .(don't consider about good or bad, write a few thousand, and then you'll be good. . . . )

also - meditation yep! is good stuff. . .

also - you reminded me of a nice quote by Sri Ramakrishna - he said, 'then there are those who always see light within and without ...'

but - also significantly, --- adventure, change -- this kind of thing can help shake up the life and result in some good things. . . .. . . .

lasting fulfillment, peace, these are all attainable and within reach (often a change of consciousness is all that's required)

the spiritual path really requires a lot of dedication, and effort - it is very well worth it, though. . .
\

'If you want to be happy - be' - Leo Tolstoy.

remember self-trust is one of the really main things. . . . and - love that you send out, that is (always?) returned. . ..

love and peace bro,
wishing you the very best.

Mushrooms. No book or teacher is going to say it the way your heart/inner Light already knows. If you're looking for some spiritual reading to keep you busy then look up some advaita authors, preferably someone who will tell you that enlightenment is not something you attain, but involuntary sink into when the time is right. I like  Ramesh Balsekar best.

Just read the book awaken now by fred davis he explains enlightenment in logical standards we can all understand and is basically what we are all looking for no matter what religion we prescribe too maybe I am wrong on this. This book sums up pretty much all the spiritual books I have read or meditations with the vague self inquiry stuff a teacher will ask you, to ask yourself.  It did not give me enlightenment but it did give me a understanding of it and the world we live in ----give it a shot if you are into some nondualism or eastern mystic type path you wont be disappointed

Using drugs for awakening disallows us to embrace God to the fullest potential. We will correlate God with emotion and happiness over strength and acceptance. drugs can close our minds as powerfully as they can open them. The deeper you dive the faster you drown, God is easiest found when we confide in another human being.

Its seems like many of us want others to feel the same pain we feel and knowing that the truth hurts we want to bring others to the light rather than show them the way and let them pave their own journey. Present truth over an opinion based on your own personal experience and it will more easily allow one to guide themselves, sometimes enforcing God upon people can have negative effects,

Yeah, this went from spiritual enlightenment to religious real quick. I had to re-read the OP to make sure I answered the right question.

God is not a religious figure but a state of mind, often referred to as the God mind, and it is found through spiritual enlightenment. Over generations the meaning of God has been very misconstrued, by looking for a life long father or mother figure to answer our questions instead of achieving self reliance, but all of us are looking for God whether we know it or not

bigdoodie, very advanced, you are.  :yoda2:

A few things I want to say (to perhaps help) -

Reality is multidimensional and there is much to be experienced; limitless planes of awareness and love and God.

Joy is the aim, and ecstasy, and all shades of love.

Pain is just love teaching hard lessons.

Don't place limitations.

That there is only the Self is just a perspective. It may be right, but there may be other perspectives.

Everyones truth is right, however love is the result of dependency and coincides with envy. Love can be defined as "to fear the loss of".  love always lessens as we age and subconsciously grow wiser to the idea that we dont love, we fear. Love cannot exist without hate, which can be observed through high school relationships when we will say that we hate our "ex". To embrace a state of peace and fearlessness, one must be care free

'The Bhagavad Gita As it is' is a great spiritual literature. It speaks of the science of the soul as well as many other divine things

I don't like who it was written by. He didn't want to make anyone their own Guru but just have them all dependent on him for their 'liberation' (which will never in a million years come to one JUST for chanting incessantly)

Sri Krishna would have probably given a noogie and swirly to Prabupad for being such a wanker

I have heard that Juan Mascaró recognized Shri Mataji as who she was and that she authorized his translation

Personally I think love has no other, no opposite. Hate is just love in a certain frequency, an illusion called 'pain' which is just love saying, 'more love this way, stop that, follow me'.

What I don't like about the East and their spirituality is they shun life. Self-realisation is actually MAKING LIFE MORE REAL

MAKING LIFE MORE LIFE

MORE ALIVE

So there's MORE to learn, MORE to do, MORE to challenge you.

Life IS enlightenment, we just don't live.

Sitting in a hut feeling some shitty ecstasy that isn't real aliveness, is not being enlightened.
