ID in VA; Lepiotoid species?
    #23416983 - 07/06/16 01:36 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Growing from untended grassy/weedy area

free, white gills with a sort of light yellow-ish/green-ish tint where damaged.

stipe is slightly enlarged at the bottom but basically of even girth from top to bottom, about 20cm long, about 2cm diameter, and has no amanita like bulb. persistant annular ring.

cap is conical, somewhat wrinkled in this mature specimen, with a frilled edge and has a darker area near the apex

found this morning and started printing before going to work; no print available yet.

might have a yellow-ish or light brown-ish discoloration where damaged

First thing that jumps to mind is a washed out Chlorophyllum but I'd like to hear some other opinions

thx for that, sirghostalot.

i did consider that and it would make sense if Chlorophyllum washes semi-clean on the top in very heavy thunderstorm rains?  this was protected from harsh sunlight but not from rainfall and we picked up over 2.2" of rain in about 50 minutes last night, accompanied by flash flooding.

it'll be interesting to see what the print shows tonight.

I think you're probably right.

I thought of Leucoagaricus initially, and the yellowish discoloration fits if it's on the stipe (which I don't see, btw), but I think the gills look mature enough that they'd be showing some reddish discoloration.
