So my buddy is coming to visit me. He wants to go camping for a week or two at the state campgrounds. I'm going to be joining him. What foods and gear do you guys bring? I already have a couple tubs of oatmeal, water, canned food, pbj. Trying to pick up a tent right now on craigslist

State campground? I assume it'll be accessible and not like backpacked in, right? Meaning, your car will likely be less than 50 yards away..?
If so, for an awesome camp meal grab aluminum foil, hamburger, potatoes, carrots, and onions... (all cut up)... Make the hamburger in to little one or two inch balls. Lay the foil out and put the carrots and potatoes down, then onions, then the beef on top... Wrap that up really well and cook it on the campfire... Throw it on a plate with some ketchup and you're good.

car camping is pretty simple man.. pack a cooler of shit you like, booze and firewood (if it permits in said location) .. for the weekend, i would suggest at least a sweatshirt or something that isnt cotton just in case it gets wet. a headlamp or flashlight is a must.
other than that man.. skys the limit.. i always like to bring some dice or cards something to do once the night falls.

Also, worth noting... For camping, don't buy the cheap aluminum foil; buy the good stuff or else you risk your food all over the ground or worse, in the fire.

A good headlamp is a must for me. I don't even use flashlights any more...
If I need one, I just use the headlamp like a flashlight. But I prefer just wearing the light. So much better that way.
The more lumens the better... And they must be able to pivot up and down.

The main gear I like while camping is a lot of dank herb to smoke
Walking around the woods getting stoned is magical, also some good tunes

Walmart tents (Ozark Woods brand, I think it's called) are garbage! They're fine when it's dry, but after a few rainy days they leak like fucking crazy.
My girl is an avid camper and has all the legit shit, but we were going to a fest and wanted to use the (cheap) tent I had since it was bigger than hers. It rained all day on the 2nd day of the fest and the whole tent had standing water in it.
Got eveything soaked... Really put a damper on shit.. No pun intended

If the place you'll be camping isn't infested with mosquitoes and ticks then try a hammock with a tarp. Much nicer than a tent. Secure the tarp so it's in an A-frame similarly to a tent. Besides that, a semi-sharp knife, and a handy sierra cup for your mess kit:

If you turn the inside of the cup to face your pants, it will hook onto your belt rather nicely for a day hike.
A good and sharp blade is a must for a life tool. I like D2 steel for a daily carry.
If you're city folk, a good fire starting kit will help you greatly. I wouldn't know what kits to go with though, I prefer hand drilling with yucca.
Dress appropriate for the weather. Plan for sudden changes. Wool-everything for the cold. Synthetic and cotton for the heat. Get your cotton wet if you're overheating.
A small lightweight waterfilter is clutch if you're in the backwoods. I like ceramic micropore filters, but they're usually a good bit heavier and need more maintenance. If you don't have a filter, keep your water at a rolling boil for five minutes (why I keep a sierra cup during hikes even if I have a nalgene).

Well, she has 2 tents. A Small Kelty tent that packs down super small for backpacking (2 person) And a big REI tent (the Basecamp 6) for us as a family..
Some drunk asshole at Boats and Bluegrass fest fell on the Kelty and ripped the fuck out of it 2 years ago.. So that one is shot but, with the kid now, don't really need that one anyhow .

For me if I'm camping the meals are basic and easy like hot dogs on the campfire. The junk food for when I'm super deluxe stoned is the big deal. I mean you are sleeping in a shitty bed so why not gorge yourself on the nawty stuff? Candy bars, assorted chips, jerky, cookies, taffy, toffee peanuts, gummies, etc. Fill a bag pack with munchies and a big bag of weed.

That's just what they called it at those places since their inception. Sweet stew knowledge though.

I make the same thing minus the hamburger but with butter and hella spices added.
I never made it while camping, but every time I grill outside I usually make it.
Wrapping in the tin foil is the most crucial part. Any holes and the butter can leak everywhere.

Ash cake is another easy recipe. Mix up your left overs with some flour and add a little water. Stir until thick and then form small little patties. Throw those in the ash near your embers (not ontop of the embers). Give it a few minutes and then the bread will be done. Blow off the ashes and enjoy.
Roasting garlic in a similar manner makes for a tasty snack.

No dude, you mix it into a dough so there's no need to wrap it up. Just blow the ashes off, it's not like the tiny residual amount that sticks will mess with your food

Nah fluff is just an advertising name that doesn't mean anything
LSD crystal is LSD crystal. if it's 97% pure, then it's just 97% pure LSD crystal. If it's 80% pure, then it's just 80% pure LSD crystal. The names applied to different levels of purity don't hold much relevance to anything, it's all just LSD in the end

Makes me think of that scene from that movie Blow when Depp is in the bathroom with the hippy licking fluff off of his jacket sleeve.

I've never seen Blow, I probably will some day though.
Orlando Bloom is hotter than Johnny Depp. I think they're both good actors though

Blow is good if you have to watch a Depp movie.
Thanks for the random info about your boner for Orlando Bloom.

More camping talk, and less man-crush and crappy actor talk would be great. You would rather go camping with Orlando Bloom then?

Toilet paper is a good suggestion. Keep it in a large (freezer size) zip lock bag.
If you use leaves to wipe with, if possible use green leaves off a tree, not a ground plant.
But most state parks will have some sort of facilities to poop at.

some boxes of kraft mac and cheese if you have a camp stove...mac and cheese has saved my day more than once for food.. you don't need to add butter and milk to it like the directions say, just a little water. Also, having a little coleman camp stove opens up so many more possibilities. A propane lantern is another good thing to have...they light up a whole campsite.
As far as the camping requirements go...like others have said... 1) a good tent 2) good sleeping bags and an air mattress (double size) along with the car lighter powered air pump. 3) rope....a good 100 feet of clothesline rope is usually good for making clotheslines and other necessities 4) a good multi use knife 5) hatchet w/ hammer head on other side of head 6) butane lighters 7) extra clothes and especially socks for wet conditions 8)flashlight 9) clothespins....have many uses 10) rain gear 11) baby wipes...great for the jiffy johns 12 sanitary gel for washing hands without water 13) A jug for water...(one with a spigot is preferred)
I'm sure other stuff but I can't think off of the top of my head.

That's just what they called it at those places since their inception. Sweet stew knowledge though.
Do you know anything about button soup or stone soup CookieCrumbs? Let me know.
I had a friends mom make me button soup before. She was from some latin american country and gave me a bowl of scalding hot soup and kept asking if I didn't like it because I was eating it so slowly
But seriously I had hobo stew once when I was camping with some boyscouts and they actually put it in water. Maybe they did it wrong, from a similar train of thought.
I will definitely have to try Acaterpillar's ashcakes one day though. That sounds pretty fucking dank

If where ever your going you can still get internet from your service provider/cell phone it would be bad ass you buy a android box/ stick. Install Exodus in Kodi media center or get it Cartoon HD. You can even stream live TV threw Kodi add on's with something like cloud tv.
In particular this device would work wonderful for this -there or also others out there- (at night time after yer camp fire or during):
Doogee Smart Cube P1

Then you just need a tarp or canvas for a screen to project it onto.
Also do not forget you can plug a charging/power brick into it to extend the battery life.

Also don't forget to stay at home if you do that because that isn't camping.
