dumb things festi tour kids say * 10
    #23416413 - 07/06/16 09:50 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

As much as I love going to concerts and partying, I sometimes can't get over how insane all the people at a lot of these jam events are. I was partying with all these dreaded hippies at a phish campout this past weekend, and they were a ton of fun and a real nice and well-intended group of people, but my god did they say the some of the dumbest shit i've ever heard. they literally believe that certain rocks/stones carry magical superpowers n shit. one of these kids says there's certain stones he can't even hold for a few seconds because "the energy is too intense":burke:

then there's some dude who said his friend got "printed" and that the people who gave him the thumbprint started yelling at him for a while to make sure he wasn't a narc and that his ''intentions were good" right after. wtf? what kind of despicable piece of shit gives someone hundreds of hits of acid and then yells at them??

IDK. dreaded hippie wooks are awesome though, tons of fun to chill with. they just believe in really retarded-ass shit.

whats the dumbest thing you heard a festival/concert spunion say or believe in before?

THE STONES ARE MAGICAL MAN!!!

Lol...Welcome to my world. My GF and her kids all have rocks laying around the house and around their necks (the kids make jewelry out of them) They say they have to do with vibrations and frequencies of different stones. I'm like you....never  bought into it but it's pretty harmless, I suppose. One thing that kind of sets me off about these stones is that the vendors tents are usually run by really out of shape people with lots of medical issues like diabetes and stuff. My question would be to them ...if these crystals and things have so much good power...you should have the metabolism of a superhero.

I do believe that rocks such as quartz can be manipulated to vibrate at different very accurate frequencies in things like electronics but I don't understand how, in their raw form, they can do a damn thing other than look pretty.

I guess one of the other things these kids seem to care a little too much about is all the hemp products...fucking oils, soaps, scented oils...that's all they use and buy. Not saying that some good can come out of it...they just go a little too far. Lastly, patchouli oils....for God's sake....just take a bath like the rest of us.

I've only ever been to one festival, but my favorite thing someone said to me all weekend (& simultaneously the dumbest thing I got asked) was when that 18 year old rolling kid sat next to me & asked, as a complete non-sequitur, "you ever eat an eighth of mushrooms?"  It just cracked me up because I was eating "eighths of mushrooms" before he was even born.  Idk, it was funny to me.

Also, all the slang kids use today, like when they say something like "bae is lit fam".

When I lived in IL, one of my good friends & his gf were straight up wooks.  They were really into gems & crystals & minerals.  I didnt get it, and still don't, but once as a gift they gave me a big chunk of black tourmaline and explained all about its medicinal and protective qualities.  I really appreciated the gift, because even if I don't believe in healing gems, it's still a real handsome rock.  I moved to PA, and in typical hippie fashion, they now live in CO.  Miss those hippies, though.

I came into this thread and was going to say that but you beat me to it. And yeah people who believe in crystals are just delusional. I guess it's fun to think about and the crystals look cool, but some people kinds go full retard on that

I just hate how so many wook types think they are actually cool because they're wooks. So many kids (and noobs) in the scene try to legitimize themselves by looking like some dirty homeless wook. Like why do people think it's cool? It's almost like a uniform for going to shows for some people. I will also never understand pins, besides for the same fact that people wear em to look like they're super heady and like been around for a while brah. "Everyone else buys pins so I will too" That's what it really comes down to

Some people front so hard in this scene, trying to be the coolest person in the world. IDK if it's because of cocaine but yeah sometimes it's way too over the top and you look like a tryhard. Just be chill

THE STONES ARE MAGICAL MAN!!!

The mind is a powerful tool, and most of the time when practicing magick, you visualize what you want to happen, and you can use other things like the stones you mentioned, as psychological stimuli to help you keep your mind focused on what you want to achieve.  So in that way, yes they can be magick, but I think you have a very poor understanding of why some people collect stones, it's not as simple as you make it out to be.  Are you saying positive thinking, and visualizing doing well is stupid?  I don't understand how that is so.

When we really want that person we have our eye on, we visualize our lives entwined as one, we visualize positive interactions with them in hopes of actually creating those interactions in real life.  We all practice magick, we just don't know it.

I would suggest reading more about magick, and perhaps some Jung to help you understand the power of the human mind.

Perhaps we should be a community, and accept others for their little quirks, and eccentric behaviors, I think this would be a more acceptable route, one which psychedelics clearly pave the way for.

Don't mistake what I am saying, I am not trying to set you straight Sheeks, just trying to stimulate different outlooks on things, so one might foster a better understanding of the world around them.

I mine and sell my own polished and rough obsidian, quartz crystal, aquamarine, agate... While I don't buy into the metaphysical bullshit, I have to cater to the metaphysical crowd to make more sales. Instead of selling the plain old mumbo jumbo, lets take obsidian for example. It is known metaphysically to counter "negative" energy. In reality obsidian is a volcanic glass that has what we call conchoidal fracture, meaning when you strike it head on or shoot a bb gun at it, you will see a perfect concave cone every time. This is the law that flint knappers use when making knives and arrowheads. This law applies to any form of percussive energy source including sound waves. By placing obsidian in your home or on you then can help to modulate the frequencies coming into your own electromagnetic energy field(if you want to believe a small piece of obsidian can do that). Metaphysical experts will argue with me about my theories but mine are at least backed up by actual properties we know about. I don't buy into crystal healing either. Quartz crystals can simply modulate frequencies such as in old radios, and they create piezoelectric current when pressure is applied. Those light up shoes and electric spark lighters work using piezoelectric current. Tourmaline will attract dust particles statically when pressure is applied. I could go on and on but the fact is stones have industrial and common uses, not to mention jewelry.

We would be good friends it sounds like.

Haha word. The coolest people in the scene are chill. They don't go out of their way to be cool ya know? That's something that really gets to me. This scene is about having fun, not trying to be cooler than everyone. Do some real LSD for once and lose that ego

Thanks for the info....My dad worked most of his life as an engineer designing machinery that would cut these quartz crystals into thin wafers and keeping several at the same frequency...some were actually used in the Apollo missions...and, I remember him having one of those cool lighters way way before they were sold to the public. I believe they still use these crystals in commercial applications.

I guess The whole rocks/crystals thing never bugged me too much, but when I was going to college I helped this chick in the dorms lower her bed and she had had a bunch of crystals on her bedside table that fell on the floor. When I went to pick them up for her she flipped shit saying "Only I can touch them!" That seemed a bit strange to me, but she was a bit of a flake anyway.
The "yolo-speak" bullshit is fucking stupid. When people use that Kartrashian-esque jabber I tend to need clarification in understanding what they're saying.

I've never met crystal chumps in real life. The best I ever saw was probably some hipster morons giving an art tour at fake European Wannabe Burning Man and spending ten minutes explaining the religious symbolism of a triangle made of neon lights that my friend had taped together about a minute earlier.

I have no idea who the artists under discussion are, but a lot of electronic music is played with notes that are at frequencies different to the notes normally used, with intervals that aren't possible on most instruments.

I'm pretty sure they know what key they're in. DJs use a simplified version of the Circle of Fifths called the Camelot wheel to mix harmonically. Virtual DJ and other programs analyze every song and label them with this coding.

It is what it is

I don't believe in the 'magic' like the others but how can you shit on something other people believe?

Really I can not fathom how it bothers you guys so much

The only thing I can come up with is you wanna 'try' it too but you're to caught up with what other people are going to think of you.

Just be yourself...

I know it is, trust me

...but you have to realize people are just having fun with it.

If they are shoving it down ur throats, you can laugh it off

but don't let it make you emotional.

Kinda lame

You should come up for the jibberjazz fests man. Eceletic & cool bands, small fest, great people with minimal wookery.....and a few of us from boomtown getting down.

I have a few crystals. Less than I used to cause I gave some to my nephew. But I break them out sometimes, and people that hold them all comment on their unique energy. I've never felt a damn thing holding or being around them. I have books on crystals & other new age things. Fascinating stuff, but it never actually did anything.

Bassnectar is fucking amazing, one of the greatest artists on the scene right now.  A lot of people believe that he is the new Jerry.  I'm not saying that he is, but you can't throw those opinions out the window.

The "that show was lit" thing is mostly a joke, y'all take it too seriously.  Crystals can be magick if you believe in them.

I have to agree with sancho, festy tour kids trying to sell me tye-dyes makes me   Other than that, the nonsense surrounding LSD- Yo this is Fluff bro, this is double dipped, etc., acid is acid.  At my site at a fest this year these kids got into a 20 minute discussion on the different types of L.  I just rocked in the hammock with my babe hoping they would STFU.

"Spit out the ketamine drip because it destroys your kidney" is another one frequently spouted.

This is a bad mentality to have and hurts the music scene as a whole.  Nectar is definitely a musician, he creates music, doesnt he?  There's this huge elitism thing with jam kids when viewing electronic music, it's sad.

yah I hear where ya coming from

bassfreak kinda ruined it to have the 'unpopular' opinion that 'bassnectar' makes decent tunes

I enjoy his older stuff but with his latest release I feel like he dropped the ball a bit...

Thats just my two cents

He makes great heavy music, I just found other producers who appeal to me slightly more

Bassnectar was vital to EDM because he brought something new to the table, and other people can take it from there

dark_star is correct though...

I DID miss the whole GratefulDead wave so I will never know what it was like but that's okay cause we have 'our' generations music

and they can continue to compare two vastly different genres of music, not to mention a completely different vibe

Who's better? I don't have all day, so I won't list them all. For starters though...just for starters;
Phish, the New Mastersounds, Red Baraat, Ozric Tentacles, SCI, Umphrey's McGee, STS9, Lotus, Lettuce, the Motet, Kung Fu, Globular,  Bonobo, Tipper, Kaminanda, Eliot Lipp, Rusty, Suduaya, Odjbox, ProLeter, Shaman's Dream, Dirtwire, Subaqueous, Late Night Radio, the list goes on & on.

I don't really get why music created with a computer isn't considered music. Last I checked, whether something is good or bad solely depends on the observer, and that music is a complex set of auditory patterns that make up melodies and such.

If the definition of 'music' were in fact as some people on these boards is as they claim it to be, then artists like Amon Tobin wouldn't be musicians, and that's clearly not the case. People love to hate on Lorin just because it's so easy to trash talk a lot of the fans that follow him and admittedly even some of his work. He does however have quite a lot of decent tracks that he's made over the years and shouldn't be judged solely on shit like "808 track" (a track that i have no care to listen to and is complete garbage).

Some people I know are really into Nahko. I can't stand it. It's terrible to me. But I can appreciate that other people have different tastes than me.

Bonobo, ozric, SCI, Lettuce, Lotus, and kung fu are all great bands, i have to concur on those.

You've admitted to being a twiddle fan before, lol.  I thoroughly enjoy all those bands, besides umphreys and Lettuce, and still believe that nectar is near the top.  In the end, it all comes down to personal preference, but nectar live sets are some of the best shows I have ever been too.  I've even been sober for them, too.

Different strokes and all.  I do respect your musical opinion, though.

I'm seeing tipper in august with Pretty lights and G Jones, I can't fucking wait.  Tipper is one of my favorite artists right now.  I just love his sound, even during daily activities, YUM.  Have you seen him live yet?

He doesn't play a lot of his older stuff anymore. Grampa Slams is a great track, as is Dubuasca.

I've been to a couple bassnectar shows, one at a festival. The one at counterpoint 2012 I thought he did terrible, it seemed like he wasn't even really trying. The one at house of blues was great though

It's because of fucking old people who can't come to terms with modern society. Do people not realize that rap music is produced electronically? It's funny his rap has been known as music forever but electronic music isn't? Just a bunch of old hypocrites. The difference between rap/hip hop and electronic music is basically nothing, hip hop features vocals while electronic music features beats, but they both have both

I mean what about effects on guitars? That's not natural or organic. Where do you draw the line?

You just don't get how it works. Using any kind of external device to make noise, be it a guitar or a laptop, is considered cheating amongst those of us who really understand what music is all about. It's not about emotional expression, or the arrangement of particular sounds in a manner that is pleasing to the ear. It's all about who is the most hardcore.

People like me, who are at the very top of musicianship, keep our melodies inside our heads where they belong, because even vocal cords are alien devices compared with the introspective purity of the inner sound. Basically, anyone who plays instruments, sings, or uses a recording device of any kind is not a real musician.

On a more serious note, people are really shitty about electronic music. I don't listen to much of the stuff, and I hate a lot of it, but to try and deny that there is serious talent involved or insist that the genre isn't music at all is ludicrous snobbery. It's on about the same level as people who insist video games cannot be works of art, although even that makes a bit more sense than claiming that electronic music isn't actually music. I've seen old interviews of people crying about electric guitars and claiming Jimi Hendrix was cheating and using gimmicks because he played with distortion and effects. People like to get upset about new types of art they don't care for.

At least everyone can agree that using a plectrum is cheating and anyone who so much as owns one of the things is not an artist.

Wow, we really put that shitty mentality to rest...

the only thing they can agree with us on, is that they are entitled to their own opinion of what sounds good or not. LOL

...and that is precisely what makes music such a special thing.

We're not all going to enjoy the same shit and that is perfectly fine.

However, when posters cling to these 'ideas' of what makes someone a musician or not I can't help but laugh. It is such a backwards way of thinking.

Music is music, doesn't matter if it was developed on a computer or pots and pans.

What is IMPORTANT is the passion that went into the making of the song. YOU can actually hear it and be in tune with it.

"Festi tour kids" are more identifiable by their style of dress and actions then conversation... in my opinion they seldom say anything remarkable in the first place because their synapses are fried on Methylone that was pressed in the shape of hello kitty, and they don't have anything to talk about except stereotypical festival shit anyway.

Usually I can identify them by an excessive amount of pins, a lack of interesting/good conversation, a general greasiness, and "710" patched, sewn, or written into one or more article of clothing.

They typically spend way too much time at the campsite or lot, and miss out on the music because theyre trying to score or sell drugs.

THE STONES ARE MAGICAL MAN!!!

Sheekle have you ever heard of the placebo effect?

I don't think enough credit is given to its power - it proves that with faith and belief we can alter our internal chemistry; basically we can heal ourselves with thought and it's been proven over and over and over again in scientific studies. Maybe if crystals were given out by MD's in lab coats instead of drunken flower of life bedazzled wooks; their powers would be taken more seriously?

I have a lot of crystals and stones around my house, and lots of gemstone jewelry as well. I'm really not THAT familiar with what the healing properties are supposed to be, but they're damn beautiful.

I think some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen are the hypocritical insults being hurled in this trash thread.

JUDGE NOT....

at the end of the day its a buncha fkn hippies with trashy lil pebbles they scraped up from the bottom of the dumpster they sleep in tho

Ott is really good, but even in the same genre, Tipper is way more talented. He is a ridiculously good producer and a way better DJ than Ott and it's really not even close

Tipper is a sound engineer and masters his own music. Some of the synths he produces are just insane

Its not really something festi kids say, but how about when they have their dirty malnourished 5 year old kid trying to sell you healing crystals. They come up to me, trying to lay a guilt trip on me and sell me expensive rocks, while their trashy drunk parents watch from 50 feet away. These kids should be playing with the other kids. I want to strangle the parents, but instead I try to say "no thanks" in the nicest way.

There are so many young hustlers at music festivals.  It's ridiculous.  They are gonna grow up to dominate the festy scene, though, before they get arrested that is.

The most creative one I ever saw is " I'll do a back flip for 5 bucks" I agreed and he turns around as he flips me off. lil' bastard.  I gave him a buck for creativity.

Twiddle is awesome. Give them like 3 years to develop. And the lead singer just needs to cut his hair. Or get pushed in mud like once every 3 months so he can calm down a bit.

I was going to ask you in PM but it looks like I can't for some reason. I'm not sure what you're getting at, or why you posted this. It looks like another instance where you've failed to see where I'm making a joke, though. Kind of like the time you took the instance in where I said "Orlando is a warzone right now" which was clearly not a literal statement, just a comment on the insanity going on. You posted (which you've since edited):

Quote:

ModestMouse said:

War.

So, what's up? What's the beef? I've never really said anything derogatory towards you, much less interacted with you on the boards I don't think until these two instances.

jesus christ you are still mulling on that?

I have no problem with you bud, in fact I didn't recognize you as the same person I said the warzone comment to

Think you're reading too much in to me. Most of the time I post i'm doing it for my own humor, I very rarely am doing so to target someone.

That last sentence gets me so much. People who say "Lit" and "Fam" piss me off so much. Like be original. They're basic. It's not funny, it's just annoying

I have no idea why people get annoyed with new slang terms.
I mean I use to because I thought it was stupid but than I kinda realized most slang is fairly retarded, it's only not "cool" because it came around after you not before.

Now I use them all with zero fucks.
I'm lit af fam, you all just jelly rachets.

Also most those slang words have been around for ages it's only recently in the last year or two that they are getting blown up in social media.
