Is this fluffy stuff contamination?

Hello, after years of wanting to do this I recently took the plunge and did a millet seed tek with tub in tub incubator and a monotub for fruiting.
I did 24 quart jars, all are nearing 100% but one looks like the below picture. When I open it up it smells faintly of mushrooms. It has fluffy pillowy growth at the top. Thank you, I spent a long time reading up and studying and am happy with my results.

I cant zoom the picture but it sounds like cobweb mold. If you have any reason to think so i'd suggest seperating it from your other jars and try fruiting it somewhere where the mold spores wont spread, like a garage or your backyard. Otherwise toss it.

I can't zoom in on your pic because it says it has been deleted. If it smells like mushrooms I personally use them. Mycelium will not always be beautiful white rhizo. When you are first starting out a lot of areas will look "questionable." Simply misting too much water can bruise your substrate causing it to turn slightly grey to blue. I believe I used to interpret that as mold and threw away more than needed. However, you do not want any mold infestations in your grow especially if it is in your home.
.... Short answer - When in doubt, I go with smell over looks.

Seems just about everyone has mentioned not being able to enlarge/zoom photos. Must be a problem with the forum. I submitted a ticket to support to see if this can be resolved.

I believe cobweb mold is somewhat "rarely" seen in our hobby. Not saying that it isn't!

Also, you should not be opening the jars before they are 100% colonized and then you wait another week. This will insure that the mycelium "out-competes" any mold spores that survived the sterilization process.

Cobweb is very rare these days (due to people using better fruiting methods), nearly impossible to occur invitro, and is unmistakable. I can't enlarge the pic but I can tell that it's not cobweb mold. Cobweb is seen usually after fruits appear, 2nd or 3rd flush, in chambers with very poor FAE. If you see what you truly believe to be dactyllium (cobweb mold) in a grain jar, 90% of the time it's actually rhizopus (pin mold).

Thanks everyone - this forum is such an awesome resource. Been super helpful as I planned and researched for many months.
It doesn't smell bad, and I opened this up in front of my laminar flow hood in a very clean room.
I figured one jar out of 24 is fairly good, but I think it might be ok - I followed strict procedures and took my time.
Here is a hopefully better external host for the photo [image] [/image]

Flick out the uncolonized bits and spawn it. Looks fine.
