$528.8 million dollar winning lottery ticket is out there...somewhere. And has been for half a year.

Quote:
There may be only a 1 in 258 million chance that someone will win tonight’s $454 million Mega Millions jackpot, but there is a 100% certainty that the winning $528.8 million Powerball ticket is still floating around in the world somewhere.
The only question is: Who has the ticket?
State lottery officials say it’s not unheard of for ticket holders to intentionally wait months before claiming their prize, but some do it by accident.
The Jan. 12 Powerball jackpot was the biggest in U.S. lottery history at $1.6 billion. The prize was split among three ticket buyers, but only two have claimed their winnings.
Like all Powerball winners, the third ticket holder was given a year to claim the jackpot. With half of that grace period now gone, some lottery officials are wondering whether the winner even realizes he or she has — or had — the winning ticket.
“It’s really 50-50 in my mind now,” said California State Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso. “It’s slightly leaning toward the person may be unaware.”
Maybe they know and have spent all this time getting their ducks in a row. Or...maybe they have no idea at all. Or lost the ticket.
A half billion dollars. Unclaimed over the period of six plus months. Could you imagine? Owning the rights to over half a billion dollars and possibly not even knowing? Or losing the ticket altogether?

Probably lost in the abyss.
I've still not bought a ticket in my lifetime. I'm convinced that I will win, and get struck by lightning on my way to cashing it in. Probably this person's lot in life.
Might have gotten hit by a car or something a few minutes after discovering he was a winner.

Possibly.
Tell you what though there are a lot of fuckers out there who lose tickets or are just plain too lazy to check them. I used to know this one jackass who would buy lotto tickets like every time he stopped by the gas station, and he'd just have a stack of unchecked tickets laying around. Some that were months and months old.
I asked him why he didn't check them and he'd say, "Ahh who cares it's not like any of those are winners anyway."
I mean shit why even buy them in the first place then

Welp, my question from a couple weeks ago has been answered.
http://ktla.com/2016/07/19/chino-hills-powerball-winners-come-forward-to-claim-prize-more-than-six-months-after-drawing/
Quote:
A couple who bought a winning Powerball ticket in Chino Hills have claimed their prize after more than six months, California Lottery officials said.
Marvin and Mae Acosta were among three big winners of $528.8 million from a January drawing, the largest prize in California Lottery history. The other winning tickets were sold in Tennessee and Florida and the total jackpot was worth about $1.6 billion, officials said.
The Acostas bought the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven at 4092 Chino Hills Parkway. They have opted to take the cash option of $327.8 million before federal taxes.
The 7-Eleven also received a maximum bonus of $1 million for selling the winning ticket, officials said.
Sonia Atwal, the daughter of the 7-Eleven owner and an employee at the store, told KTLA that she had a lot of theories as to why the winnings hadn’t been claimed.
“(I’m) Super excited for the Acosta family,” she said.
Her father, Balbir Atwal, also said he was excited for the couple.
California Lottery Director Hugo Lopez said in a news release that it took so long for the Acostas to claim the prize because they “assembled a team of legal and financial advisors to help them make the most of this windfall and prepare them for their new life,” something the organization encourages winners to do.
"We couldn’t be happier for them and are thrilled they took the time to assemble the right team before coming in to claim,” Lopez said.
In a statement, the couple said they will put the winnings in a trust and give some to charities that are important to them.
“We are thankful and blessed for the rare gift that has been placed in our care. We have engaged a team of advisors to educate and guide us through this process so that we can be good stewards of these new resources," they said in the statement.
"While we are very grateful for the wonderful wishes and encouragement we’ve received, it is not our intention to become public figures, and we ask for and appreciate privacy going forward."

I'd invest about 20 million of it in various investment accounts so I'd get paid like 100-200ish thousand a year just for being rich. Then I'd give the rest of it away.

I would take at-least 100 million of it and convert it to Gold. Find some serious supplier who could give me the product I'm looking for. Id hire some one who is a expert and pay him very well to ensure I get the gold I'm looking for. Storage of the gold? After buying property id probably keep a bunch of the gold buried then the rest in a safe. GPS coordinates for when I bury it on my property.

Lol one day after you bury the gold you die of a heart ATTACK and the gold is never to be found until the year 3000 when gold is worthless.

You could also invest it into funds that accumulate wealth long term in the same vein as the Nobel Peace Prize money does. That way it keeps making shit happen long after you're dead.

I don't think gold will ever become worthless unless of course they can recreate it cheaper than it can be found and there is no way to tell the difference between the two.
No heart attacks for me tho, thank you for the offer.
Maybe one could take the property and a sizable sum of money.. create some type of legal document that ensures the possession of it will go to a certain person if one was to die. With it a message of what's going on and what the coordinates.
I know of a person who has had a relative die and for like 5 year's after they still received birthday gifts from the deceased person. Talk about surprising and weird!

For 350 million dollars, you could hire 10 different warlords to do your warlording for you.

Well I like the idea of starting small, take over one territory at a time, see the fear in my enemies eyes before I drive the machete home and have my witchdoctors bind their souls to me in eternal servitude.

I have the $528.8 million dollar winning lottery ticket but am afraid to cash it in because I don't want wealth and fame to change me, AMA.
