Regardless, what is your basis for claiming "The likelihood of my freedom being curtailed by gun regulation is close enough to 100%"?  That makes no sense if only criminals and the mentally ill are restricted from buying guns (unless of course, you're a convicted criminal or mentally ill).

Because those two restrictions are already in place.  Any new restrictions will almost certainly curtail my freedom as do many of the current restrictions.

As it is, I had to spend thousands of dollars to modify a firearm of mine because California outlawed the specific chambering of it.  Of course, I can have it rechambered to a more powerful round and walk down the street with it, though.

So reading in more about heller and miller decisions:

Quote:

District of Columbia v. Heller (2008)
"Miller stands only for the proposition that the Second Amendment right, whatever its nature, extends only to certain types of weapons. It is particularly wrongheaded to read Miller for more than what it said, because the case did not even purport to be a thorough examination of the Second Amendment."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Miller

which would put doubt in the way you used it above.

there are more cases here tho, this is an interesting rabbit hole, I'll have to get back to after work.

Miller revolved around short-barreled (or sawed-off) shotguns. They were deemed to have no military function and thus... not protected.

We have so many examples of this government purposefully lying to us and hurting our economy to our health and safety over its greedy agendas.

From starting privately funded wars over flasified weapons of mass destruction that have bankrupt our country.

To lying about natural healing herbs and fungi whilst we over prescribe amphetamines and opiates.

Why do we trust this strong and passionate push to limit more of our basic freedoms? Why are they so passionate about this whilst having such a horrible track record of passing laws for our well being?

14 pages I couldn't read through, so perhaps this was already said.

I'm from Australia, which has extremely tight gun restrictions. We haven't had a mass shooting in over 20 years. Tell me again that it doesn't work?

5 people shot in a day by the same person sounds like a mass shooting to me.

Why would mass shootings be the metric for a sensible gun policy?

Mass shootings are very rare.  To make a law that restricts the freedom of millions in an attempt to prevent something that is already a rare occurrence is misguided.

A mass shooting is one aspect of it. In 2013 alone there were over 33,000 deaths from firearms (USA)

Let's ignore the word mass then. And just look at the pure statistics.

Australian deaths per 100,000 people in the year 2013 were 0.93
American deaths per 100,000 people in the year 2014 were 10.64

Maybe it's the culture over there, I don't know, but something is very fucked up.

Meh, .01% chance of death by firearm isn't worth taking freedoms away IMO

Ten times the gun death rate of a normal country isn't something to worry about? Holy fuck.

When it comes to gun control, any country not named America is a normal country.

Including suicides in the gun death count when arguing for yet more gun control... is quite disingenuous.

So if occurrences of rape, sexual assault, robbery, home invasions, physical assault, and murder by stabbing went higher, you could be OK with that if gun deaths went lower?
