Just bought this game, never played any of the other ones. This game is annoyingly hard, im finally getting the hang of it but holy shit, i cant imagine that a lot of people who are new to it wouldnt give up relatively quickly and never play again. Its basically pattern recognition and timing but it takes a bit to get used to IMO.
Took me like 3 hours and 80 attempts to get passed the first boss and hes the literal start of the game, had to switch to a more noobfriendly class just to do it.
Any one else play this game, what's your thoughts on it?

You started on the 3rd one? You deserve to fail at that game.
-------------------- How to get started in bulk: Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs) What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain) Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary) Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful) Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

Never played, but it's supposed to be incredibly hard. People say it's one of the more difficult games out there. Aside from that, would you say it's worth playing? If I'm not mistaken I think it just went on sale in the Xbox store and I'm debating whether or not to scoop it

Id definitely recommend it, its frustrating but its very challenging which forces you to stay engaged in it or you die and have to start over which i like a lot, everything has a different attack so you basically have to learn their attack patterns and be able to dodge or parry on time or even heal without them attacking you.
If you never played the first boss and the first 2-3 hours are going to be sooo annoying but youll quickly get used to the gameplay and adjust to it, once you figure it out though it starts getting fun and theres way more you can do.
I got it because of how hard i read it was and wanted a challenge, really didnt expect it to be damn near impossible at first had to look up tips and tricks even for the first boss and hes within 3 minutes of starting the game

I started on 3 and got past the first boss on 2nd try in 10 minutes. The Souls series isn't as hard or difficult as people say it. It is significantly more punishing and strict than every game and that's makes people think it is "difficult". It's just a matter of learning the game itself and its mechanics which isn't any more complex harder than your typical game.
Great games. Well worth playing.

I haven't played 3 yet, but I've 100% on the first two. It's not harder than other games, but it is more time consuming and less forgiving. A mistake can easily mean an hour or two of lost progress.

The series are my all time favorite demon souls 100% ds 1-2-3 100% with dlc, bloodborne 100%. Waiting on ds3 dlc

I find the series very aggravating at times. The gamer in me wants to play and get through it for the sense of accomplishment, but the rest of me ends up pissed off and wanting to rage quit, which I kinda did with 2. I got through a good bit of it then had to do an unexpected fresh install on my computer and lost my save and just said fuck doing all that again . Everyone says that the PC ports were shit compared to console version which may have influenced my decision on deciding it wasn't worth starting over.
I haven't started 3 yet but I intend to. I already have it but I've been addicted to another game I found a week or two ago called Mordheim City of the Damned. It's a more sandbox feeling take on turn based strategy games.

Dark Souls never really felt difficult to me, but that was probably due to recognition of how the series incorporates death as a mechanic. On the surface, Dark Souls may feel really unforgiving, but a lot of that seems to play off of expectations as a gamer. Once able to recognize that death is not actually the sort of crushing finality it is in typical games, it starts to feel more flexible.
Personally my love/hate relationship with 3 comes in with playing multiple classes. Different skillsets feel really different when fighting trash mobs, but once a boss fight starts endless rolling until an opening for a couple hits pops up is pretty much every builds combat. Assassin as first character --> roll roll roll, poke with Estoc a few times, roll roll roll Sorcerer --> roll roll roll, cast one or two spells, roll roll roll Heavy Armour Knight --> Roll roll roll, slash, roll roll roll
It may not help that Poise became a stat dictating iFrames during rolling instead of stagger when tanking hits.
Dark Souls 3 also made the games 'easy-mode' quite manageable. For anyone who has true difficulty with the game, each area has a location where farming souls is comically easy, and being over-leveled can make bosses kind of laughable in comparison.
The only thing that really makes Dark Souls seem 'difficult' is that it is not very overt in explaining mechanics. The game does not do a lot to communicate its systems to the player. More than an exercise in difficulty, personally view the series as a really solid role-playing game. It provides a lot of flexibility for builds, and any build feels viable (in PvE at least) if the player is willing to recognize the strengths and weaknesses they are set up for.

Great game. Not substantially harder than 1 or 2 (especially Scholar of the First Sin).
Stick with it and check out Bloodborne as well!

So I finally got around to starting this game. Seems a lot more casual and easy than the first two to me. Maybe it's just because it's a better PC port or maybe it really is easier.

I finally got the hang of it, took me a bit to get used to the mechanics of this game and realize that picking everything up is important lol but it's definitely a lot easier now that I'm used to it

I've only just reached the first boss. I kinda just wanted to feel him out and see how hard it was gonna be. I went in half dead with only 2 flasks and damn near beat him. I have no doubt I'll be able to beat him NP with full health and 3 flasks. I think my first boss ever in the series was more like what you listed in the OP. Ridiculous amount of time and deaths before I beat him.

Just bought Dark Souls today too! I probably played the first dark souls for like 30 hours. I needed a good game to delve in to so I hooked myself up, and I am glad I did!
Still frustrating and just as fun. I think my room mates are getting more peeved at watching me die than I am haha! Im taking it slow and Im at that boss "Vordt of the Valley" or something. Can't wait to put some hours in this game and take my time perfecting my play.
I have been watching some videos on youtube about the lore of the game. I can't say that I understand it but the stories behind the bosses are super interesting to hear and I am sure will only make our future face off a little more endearing.
