Hi,
Could someone please identify this cactus for me.

I have a nursery selling these close by and I'm wondering if they are indeed L. williamsii
I realise that the pictures aren't very good and I've asked for better ones. They are between 1 - 1.5" across in diameter i believe.
Thank you

Okay, Upon closer inspection and after the initial excitement has passed I've come to realise that they aren't l.williamsii. But an ID would still be nice

You're correct, it's not a loph. It's a Gymnocalycium sp.

Gymnocalycium is and has been used similar to peyote, some contain indeed mescaline and other phenethylamines!
I have a german book about psychoactive cacti.
- G.calochorum - G.comarapense - G.gibbosum - G.horridispinum - G.netrelianum - G.riograndense - G.striglanum - G.uebelmannianum - G.valnicekianum - G.vatteri
.. are listed as "mescaline-containing vareties" with no further information given about potency or dosage, though it's consumed the same way peyote is.
About the ID, I think member LSoares can tell you exactly what it is.

i would say Gymnocalycium eurypleurum
even if it may contain small amounts of mescaline (as many cacti do, among other alakaloids) , it would probably sort no effect , and would be a shame to ruin such a beautiful plant.
Continue your search for the real Lophophora williamsi Bro.

Your guess is as good as mine, that combination of flower colour and body is not one I'm familiar with (I'm next to useless when it comes to south-americans). I'm sure Mostly_Harmless will know more.
