Your job is (probably) going to be automated.

Automation is coming, and I was curious what you guys thought about it.
Driverless cars eliminate the need for taxis and truck drivers. Self checkouts eliminate the need for cashiers in super markets and fast food places. Construction use of 3d printing might eventually eliminate the need for many construction jobs. Amazon is automating its warehouse to eliminate the need for warehouse workers. Factories are becoming entirely automated eliminating the need for factory workers.
Is this good or is it bad? Are people going to be able to find new work, or will we end up with 20%+ unemployment rates? Are there enough non-automatable jobs to accommodate everyone? Is automation an issue at all, or is it maybe a benefit to the economy and to workers who don't have to work crappy jobs anymore?
What do you think?

True that. We're all machines. Just made out of different material and programmed differently.

This. I'm in the science field. For the foreseeable future, the decision-making process is too complex to be automated.

Ditto. IT. I'm curious how they would replace my job with robots when half my job is making them work. That will be a ways away...
Also hopefully by the time we get there, automation will make our lives easier in every way - once we get rid of the outdated concept of money and debt.

maybe if you paid attention to things you'd see that even the panhandling will be farmed out to robots so you never have to leave the comfort of your couch
I work on the automation so I'm one of the last in line to be sidelined
the crazy shit, I keep hearing about how now that we have all of this automation at work it requires more people to produce less product

Notice most of those jobs don't require much skill (construction aside, which I doubt will become that automated).

Nah, automation has a ways to go. What I do takes clinical reasoning skills that AI is nowhere near being able to replicate.

All jobs will be replaced by machines in the future. Once they make a machine that can think anywhere near a human they're going to take off. All we need is the ability to have them learn and adapt effectively.
The last few jobs to hold out will be those that require sufficient creative thought as to be extremely difficult to replicate via machine. However I believe it will only be a matter of time before they build machines that are capable of creative thought as well. It's only exponential growth from there.

It's more than thought. Emotion plays an integral role as well. You need to give AI empathy, compassion, ability to build rapport, etc as well as thinking power. We're nowhere near that.

We are the ones that make the machines. To imply that machines will overtake us on every level, is silly. Yeah maybe there are many areas where robots/computers can out-calculate a human being, but we are multidimensional beings, haha. As long as it stays in the right hands, robots should just enhance our lives.. We are nowhere near the level in AI where we can even come close to replication all the intricacies of the human brain which even we do not understand. Will it get to that point eventually? Maybe.. but they will still be robots.

Not sure if all that is necessary actually.
But really we just need them to be able to learn. They just need to monkey-see-monkey-do. Same shit with babies. They're basically just empty husks, robots with very little programming besides the minimal 'factory' settings that enable crying, drinking, pissing, and shitting. lol

And just think, it's that kind of robot which will inevitably develop a mind of its own and probably try to destroy the human race
It's standard sci-fi stuff guys, super intelligent AI will lead to the end of the world once said AI decides to turn on its human creators
Almost all modern technology is automated to some extent.. So logically speaking if the AI which controls the technology goes rogue it will kinda have us by the balls
