When you pay for 2 day shipping and it takes3 weeks...

.... Just to ship out
So I bought a 30~$ bamboo Andean saxophone from Bolivia last month, the listing said it would need 7 days fabrication time.
At checkout I chose 2 day shipping which was only 15$ and like 2$ more then the standard shipping.
Well it has been 3 weeks and they just messaged me to let me know it finally shipped and may take 17-19 days to arrive...
Should I demand a refund or just keep on waiting? It was pretty cheap but I am getting sick of waiting since I may just re sell it when it arrives anyways.
Any thoughts? What would you do? I sent them a message explaining this feels like false advertising to me, maybe the 2 day shipping was a bug

I have had quality stuff show up from china fairly quickly, some with free shipping even. Usually doesn't take more then 2-3 weeks at the most.
Did you order it from DHgate? That is where my current bong is from and man what a score! Easily nicer than bongs costing 4x+ as much

Well first of all was it 2 days to ship or something AFTER manufacturing? I mean if it was only $2 more than standard shipping... Did you actually read what you were paying for? $2 for 2 days shipping from Bolivia does not make sense.
1. Shipping from Bolivia to PNW would cost WAY WAY fucking more than $2 if it was true 2 day air shipping. Like we're talking probably hundreds.
2. Shipping just about anything overseas or over continents takes at least 2-3 weeks at least on average.
Anyway I'm guessing you just misread what you were paying $2 extra for.. maybe it was express processing or something.. no possible way they can ship 2 day shipping for an extra $2.

No fucking Amazon. Dhgate next time ALL the way. The irony is I didn't know I order the one on Amazon I was going to buy locally because I didn't want my shit coming from CHINA! . That was stupid in retrospect

I've bought Chinese glass on Amazon a couple times and it always comes way more quickly than I'd expect. Like a week, 10 days tops. YMMV

It was "2 day shipping", the listing stated it would take 7 days to be ready.
The 2$ difference is why I think it may have been a bug or something.
I have had stuff ship for free from China and arrive in less then a week so there is no excuse for it taking so long when it isn't even from overseas. Maybe south American shipping sucks or something though
Even if it was express processing it took 3 ducking weeks to ship out
None of that makes sense to me...

Something wrong with that, that's for sure. Probably can't even $17 2 day shipping from Bolivia to Bolivia Maybe it didn't recognize you were out of country? I don't know. But I doubt they can even do 2 day shipping to the US.. not without you paying a shitload extra. Shipping from China is highly variable... depending how it comes. Some stuff may take a week, I've had stuff take 8 weeks from the slow boat.
Anyway it's impossible to know what you actually paid for, have a screenshot or something? $2 for 2-day shipping sounds too good to be true because it is..

Either way though it should have shipped out weeks ago and been arriving this week...
Pretty sure I had to fill out an address form to get my shipping price so that isn't it.
I know what I paid for because on my order it says "2 day shipping" under the shipping, clearly something went wrong though. Maybe it was supposed to be a different shipping option instead.
I really am just annoyed about how long ots taking in general, the 2 day shipping is just icing on the cake

Sure, I made a thread about it when I bought it I think but people weren't very interested
Here is the one I got: Andean bamboo sax

They also have a larger but cheaper one that isn't decorated and doesn't come with the accessories such as a strap and reeds.
I couldn't decide so I went with the one with the accessories I have seen nicer looking bamboos sax's around but they are more in the 100~$+ price range for the ones that actually have the horn shape as apposed to ones that are essentially bamboo flutes with sax mouth pieces Also be warned many people say they don't sound good but I think they mean in terms of sounding like a brass sax.
Most of the videos I have watched of people playing them sound great too me.
I honestly prefer the sound in some ways as its more smooth and "organic" and less harsh and brassy.
Here is the nicer bamboo sax I found, its 130$ though and might actually be made of wood or part wood and bamboo:
 Its called the "Wooba Sax"
I can't find any videos of the Andean Bamboo sax though so I am not sure how it will sound, for the price I was willing to risk it though

Yeah I will try to remember to make a thread whenever it shows up to either recommend it or tell people to stay away and get a real sax
I wish they had better pics becouse you can't even tell what/ if any scale it has on it since they just show the one bottom hole on the side...

The Andean one or the Wooba sax? The latter does kind of look like a giant tribal sherlock pipe or something, wooden pipes are gross though IME even with a screen.

I posted the american version in this thread but it costs like 100$ more which for a 30$ cheap bamboo instrument is a huge difference.
I am willing to wait a month or two to save money on an instrument I might not end up keeping for long

Yeah, but a $30 wood flute will sound like a toy, let alone a more complex instrument. If it doesn't sound like a toy, they won't be selling it for $30, because they could demand more.
$130 is already pretty much guaranteed to sound like a toy.
This comes from a guy who's owned a lot of instruments, and burned a lot of money trying to go cheap on some of them.

There are too many factors for that to be true all the time. Generally yes but there are exceptions, for example I have seen really quality modded guitars go for 130~$ and I bought a used 1960 saxophone in decent condition for 120. If your buying new then yeah 100$ or even 200$ won't get you much in many cases but you can score quality deals as well if you look around enough.
I would even argue a lot of expensive instruments are over priced as hell, even the quality ones.
If you have the money for them then good for you but I am a budget musician for the most part.
Oh yeah and the main reason I wanted a bamboo sax in the first place was becouse I intend to try and make one and wanted something to model it after...

You can find an undervalued sax and refurbish it for ridiculously cheap if you're lucky, from what I understand that niche is being run dry though. A lot of people are buying them up, giving them a rub down and turning them over for more "reasonable" prices.
Point in case:
 http://www.saxquest.com/product/view/wow-original-lacquer-selmer-paris-super-balanced-action-tenor-sax-38976-P9687
I've performed on instruments worth $200. Most of my instruments have been worth under $500, nothing over $2000, though I've played more expensive instruments to get a feel (and agree that more isn't necessarily better). It really depends on the instrument, but $30 is suspect for a large, relatively complex woodwind.
Don't get me wrong, I'm always broke and constantly pawning / trading instruments Only commented on the price because you were comparing the $30 vs $130

Well like I said I am getting it mainly to try and replicate so buying an expensive one seems pointless. If the cheap one sucks I will either try to improve it or sell it, both of which would probably be harder with the expensive one.

maybe it was a typo and it was "12 day shipping".
First of all, I would not expect 2 day shipping from Bolivia to the U.S., and second it would not cost only $15. It would cost like $40-50 or more.

Another interesting aspect of this I forgot about is the listing says "fast US shipping" which is part of why I chose that specific one instead of a cheaper but larger one without fast shipping listed.
Logical, I wish that were the case but they clearly said "17-19 days average" when I asked....
17-19 days on top of the 3 weeks it took them to ship it out

What have you spent time on? So far I have just done some random guitar mods for the most part but I intend to get more into it over time.

Not much at all. Mostly just repairing instruments, lots of random stuff on various guitars, a little work on my cello and organ, not sure what else. Built a really nice percussion instrument by hand, that was great.
Its sort of the same for me, I can play sports and do various activities all day. Yet with art, so much focus and meticulous detail is necessary, its very difficult to expand past one field. There are exercises I like to show my students, to show them how much focus classical music takes, which will consistently give one vertigo. By the time a 6hr practice session is done, sitting down and painting just feels tedious
There's so much to do in this world, its hard to find the time. Have to compromise.

That's awesome! I wish Cellos weren't so expensive as its such a damn cool instrument... I bought a cheap used hammond that I need to learn how to repair. I think its mostly simpler stuff thankfully but I have yet to take the time to figure it out. Lately its been calling to me more though and working on electronics in general is so fascinating and handy if you get even decent at it.

What sort of percussion instrument? That is also really awesome! I had the idea for a small acoustic electronic percussion awhile back that would basically be a small wooden resonating box type thing with piezo's installed and hooked up to a preamp where you could control the EQ. The idea is that you could boost the bass really high and have a bassy acoustic percussion sound from a smaller object or and try out a lot of possibilities.
Wouldn't be surprised if something like that exists already but I have yet to see it. Seems like it would be simple enough to make though.
I want to make a bamboo xylophone type thing too just becouse I have a ton of bamboo in my yard

What do you teach? A 6hr practice session must take some serious motivation! I am lucky to get 6 hours in a day on all the random things I am trying to learn

I often find myself wishing there were 6 more hours in a day and 1 more day a week. The best way to find that extra time is by sacrificing sleep! Unfortunately.

I miss the cello, haven't had one in awhile. Not sure if I'll obtain another one or go with a viola. That's far in the future either way.
Don't know anything about electronics, outside of simple shit like soldering

Funnily enough, its basically a wooden box you sit on and play like a djembe. The center has a deep resonant bass, nice mids moving outward and very nice treble at the ends. Mine was mahogany and cedar(?), its called a cajon and would be my favorite percussion outside Tabla, Phakhawaj and Calabash.

Nice, have you made any flutes / bansuris?

6hrs is the ideal, depends on the season - right now I'm making maybe 4hrs, when I injured my arms I was floating around 10hrs (which is too much imo). I teach music itself more than any particular instrument, but can teach quite a few instruments up to a certain point.

Usually I try working less (day-jobs) to get more time
Cutting back on sleep cuts into optimum focus, and I technically should be focusing on making money through music so working more hours in a factory becomes a distraction.
To each their own though, no one seems to want to live as I do.
