Growkit help
    #23410455 - 07/04/16 01:46 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, was looking for a little help or advise as I am a complete novice and this is my first attempt at growing and I've probably done it all wrong so just looking for a little advice to see if this is the case, thanks...

I bought a grow kit for oyster mushrooms along with a cambodian spore syringe.
I removed the lid from the grow kit and inoculated it and then placed it in the bag that came with it. I have been spraying it with water twice a day for the last ten days, kept at 25 degc and nothing has happened.
Im guessing I have not done something correct. I did not want to go for different method other than the grow kit. Have I done it wrong and if so could I still salvage the grow kit I have to make it work?
First attempt and very much a novice so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks maz thats great
I was just following the instructions on magic mushroom.com but they're grow kits  come ready so I was just hoping because I had to inoculate mine I hadn't missed a step. I'm seeing in some places saying not to remove the lid and tape the holes. Where as I removed the lid first thing then inoculated, bagged and sprayed. Just thought it would have went white by now according to other posts

Cheers!

Gas exchange through the holes is very important I'm not sure about the misting unless its already colonised then yeah you need to fruit it take lid off mist and fan

I still have the lid so do you think if I were to put it on now it would still work or is it likely not to work now?

eh...so that thing didnt come with any colonized myc, you inoculated in open air and left the lid off? that's no good.. lid stays on until 100% colonized.. is that brf and verm mix btw? weird kit!

www.mushroomvideos.com video1-4 is the proper brf-tek.

I just tried to copy the instructions I seen off magic mushroom.com but I guess my inexperience has shown.
The kit just said it was for growing oyster mushrooms but could be used to grow any other spores.
Do you think I would get away with putting the lid on now or should I bin it and start again?

Thanks

That is quite odd. There are 2 popular types of kits, one will come with grains or a mixture which you inject ungerminated spores into. This sounded like what you had at first since it said it could grow other spores -i.e. sounded like nothing had grown in the grains.

Many sellers will say this to distance themselves from illegal growing.

But you say it had colonised myc, did it look white before you watered it? If you did have colonised myc the spores you injected will probably not compete and you will grow oysters.

You now probably have a PP5 container with a filtered lid and at least that can be of use to you.

I always advise beginners to read up about truffles/stones/sclerotia -all the same thing and easier to grow.

take the box out of the bag and take a pic of the sides and top of the box pretty close.
if its colonized already you can fruit in a proper FC or melting holes in the bag and get a fruit to print at least. and probably enough to not get discouraged.

Build an SGFC and fruit it in there.  Look like a colonised kit to me, they usually send them with a bag as a fruiting chamber, with a hefty price tag.

Even if it is just oysters, they are still really tastey and good for you.  Definitely worth growing.

As far as I remember it said it was a pre sterilised grow kit for oyster mushrooms but could be used for any other type of mushroom
Here is a side pic of the pot. I can see whiteness but nothing like some pics i have seen. I'm wondering if its just the water content I can see

yes that's a soggy mess already, no myc. no inoculation ports either so to be a functioning kit it should have come with a SAB.
