I'm trying to do some research on large dog breeds that are good with young children
I've been looking into irish wolfhound, German shepherd's and Siberian husky
Anybody have one of these as pets or ha e suggestions/experience with large dog breeds?
I'd like to have two pups around and I'd rAther have two different breeds so breeds that get on well with other dogs and children/families is what were looking for
Thanks

Mastiffs are supposed to be really good family dogs, and they're huge
I love Australian cattle dogs too but they're more medium sized now that I think about it

I had German Shepherd when I was a kid, it's a very serious dog
I'd suggest looking at big , if u want big, Labradors , there big and pretty and soft and social

If you consider labs "big", then definitely Labs. I've had 2 and their amazing dogs and love kids. Always very well behaved dogs and they love to play
These days it seems like everybody has a lab, but it's because they're amazing dogs. I honestly want to have a lab for the rest of my life. My lab right now is like the best dog ever

Beautiful pup there hex!
And I agree about the labs, my childhood dog was a black lab, best friend I've ever had seriously
When he passed I was DEVASTATED
Years later in a dream he ran down to me and I hugged him, gave me some closure and I knew then that life goes on and to cherish the childhood and life we shared

Black mouth cur. BLACK MOUTH CUR. seriously look into them extremely smart and can play rough with guys and gentle as ever with children and women
-------------------- its that bitter-sweet-sour, electric-smooth-twang. everything you ever have, are. or will feel along with every emotion, joy, hate, love, fear or aspiration burning down your nerves and into the fabric of your place in this existence at ten thousand degrees above and below zero will you find yourself wondering if you've been dead or alive this whole time. being born over and over only to die over and over hoping the wheel stops in the same place it started when you spun it, and when it finally does and you can step back and take a nice deep breath you realize how beautiful life is, remember, wake up to the most beautiful day of your life every single day, its just the way.

My mom is convinced our dog is part cur actually. The face looks really similar and it has the white spot on his chest too. Our dog is a rescue from down south. Def has a lot of black lab in him but he's a mutt so we don't know exactly the other breed(s)

Had 2 german shepards when i was growing up. Both were very good with children and great dogs overall. Very intelligent. I have a big fat Great Pyrenees now and hes a dullard and not great with children. And he barks alot.

I remember going to a Celtic festival as a kid and saw a woman with 4 or 5 full grown Irish wolfhounds and I was mesmerized at the size of them, I couldn't believe they were actually dogs when I walked up to them.

Same, that's what I came in to this thread to say....Our family had 2 boxers through out my childhood and teen years.
Super playful, goofy, loving, chill dogs....and very protective over the family & property but not necessarily overly aggressive towards strangers. They could be lounging around resting, but would always be down to play in an instant if I woke them up. They were easy to train the basics and listened well .
Sometime later in my life when I have some of my own property I'm definitely going to get another Boxer .

Burmese Mountain dog.
I have a husky German Shepard and he's good around kids and puppies but I don't think I would go full breed German shepard. They are very possessive and territorial. The husky in him makes him way more social and good with strange dogs.

I'm laughing at myself because I've been told by lots of people I know that I can have a pretty brash personality. That's all My family and I were just reminiscing about her the other night
