Does this look infected to you?
    #23408285 - 07/03/16 08:13 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hello guys and girls and misc. This is my first grow and I've birthed a cake to see how things go the first few days. I think I am just about at pinning stage, but I've got these black spots. Contamination?

Maybe brusing.

Someone didn't dunk n' roll :nonono:

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

I dunked, but no roll. I ordered the jars online and didn't have the material on hand. Would it be worth buying a bag of Vermiculite for the rest of the cakes? I know this is getting off topic. Just curious.

How do you not have vermiculite? Vermiculite is part of the mixture of the substrate. But yes, it would be worth it to buy a bag of verm. I'm not sure I'd bother with it on the cakes you've already birthed, but it's something that would come in handy for future grows - even if you move onto bulk. (I use verm for the coir tek I use)

Like I said, I ordered the jars of substrate online for my first grow to avoid mistakes there. I will go get some vermiculite and roll the other ones. Does anyone else have any opinions on the black spots?

Keep them glistening by misting directly but no pooling water. Shine a flashlight to see it glistening. The bruising is from drying out, so you're not misting enough.

Oh wow. Ok. I haven't been misting directory at all to avoid the pooling. Thanks a lot. This makes a lot of sense.

Finally got some pins going on. The other cakes are fully colonized, but waiting for the week to be up to birth them. I can see why people roll now. The pins seem to be only growing on the verm at the bottom. Is this accurate, or is it just because gravity is pulling all the water down there?
