Learn to speak Esperanto and network in with that crowd. Work Away is also an interesting option. Both would fit your idea.

So... You want to walk the earth?

I've thought of it before. Into the Wild really got me interested in the idea.

What you need is camping equipment.
Hit up national forests and national parks. You'll need to plan for this, save money, plan on doing it for a specific duration (12 months etc), and buy enough food and camping supplies to last that long. You'll also need to factor in gas, so you need to plan out where you're going to stay, when, and for how long. Save enough so that after you buy everything if your car breaks down you can afford to fix it.
Generally backpack camping away from an organized campsite is free or near free. You'll have to look up permits and what not, and you'll occasionally want to stay in organized campgrounds so that you can shower etc.

A DIY campervan conversion would be fancy for quitting the normal life.

I guess I will still be working a 9 to 5 or own my own business, but I would like my own land and have a homestead, or self sufficient living environment. gardens, livestock, water supply, electricity, bee farm, etc. I dont want to have to depend on anything besides myself.

Kush_Zombie said: I think most ways of quitting the "normal life" are going to involve quite a bit of risk. Assuming you don't already have money when you decide to quit, you'd more or less be looking at something along the lines of selling illegal substances. Some people keep it simple and clean with natural illegal products like cannabis.
Others like to get dirty and fuck with meth and rob people and other crazy shit.
Regardless on what you're doing, unless you're making some awesome homemade products and selling it on etsy or ebay or something, you're probably risking some jail/prison time and possibly your life.
Cannabis has been a steady income for me in the past. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I stopped selling completely (after doing it for a few years). I didn't realize how stressful it was until I stopped doing it. I told everyone I'm out and I've ignored phone calls ever since then and it's been absolutely great. No drama, no stress, no rushing, just catching up and trying to do what I need to do to get my head straight.
I'm planning on buying tools to do landscaping for money eventually. Taking care of yards and working outside is something I've always had a knack for. You can pick your jobs, name your prices, and do your own hours as long as you get what you need to done when you're supposed to.
Damn it, man, that sounds so relaxing and free. Congrats
aren't you the kid that got butthurt and left me a zero rating saying "go back to school, it would do you some good."?

If you wanna go this route in life Hobo lifestyle is the best, working your ass of in a organic farm is bullshit way too much work and you need some type of money first, Selling and producing drugs has too much risk especially weed .Hobo riding train is just fun and doesn't cost anything. You ask for money or do squeedge for food and cig and Booz, travel, go to hippie gathering, go work in a orchard or something if you want extra money, you go from festival to festival and try to enter the bum way. Lots of fun really

i have never earned over ten grand annually--haven't even worked more than 100 hours so far this year--but, i also don't pay rent and get a large percentage of my food from the trash, so i rarely feel difficulty in covering my basic needs
how do i live?--out of a backpack, wandering wherever the wind or desire takes me
how do i entertain myself?--i read books, write poetry and philosophy, play the blues harp, go on adventures with my dog, sit in a spot with a good view and think, cook and eat great meals with friends, teach myself new skills (currently, tattooing and juggling), and sometimes i post on in the pub
what sacrifices have i made?--the biggest, already mentioned, is my decision to not live in a house in order to avoid losing 1/3 to 1/2 of my income to rent; i rarely have the money to afford brand new items, generally sticking to secondhand; luxury goods and expensive habits are completely out of range--yet, i have zero debt, manage to take care of my dog, and i also manage to save up to buy high ticket items i want/need, like a quality sleeping bag or tablet device, and even laser eye surgery (by the end of this summer)--i feel that my lifestyle has opened up the opportunity for more enjoyment rather than less, so i'm not sure i would even consider myself to have sacrificed--rather, i traded up
this is my life--i am currently saving money for a plane ticket to portugal in fall--going to get a donkey and then spend an unknown number of years following the old silk road trading routes

That's awesome man. I got offered a job at a smoke shop in Springfield, OR but by the time he offered me the job I was already back in Texas he said he'd teach me and everything. Said if I ever go back to give him a call.
I think glass blowing could be a fun and possibly frustrating job.
