69 was my favorite year - don't fuck with studio dead, i find it like containing a great white shark; just doesn't work, however you do have to listen to American Beauty at least once through
Auditorium Theatre Chicago August 1971 is pretty kick ass, just to throw out a lil concert advise

"Liberty" is one of my favorite songs of all time and one of their least appreciated. "Reuben and Cherrise" a JGB staple and "Row Jimmy Row" always bring me good vibes during an intense session.

Brewmaster: Well, the mescaline will still be in there, but I'd be afraid of it conjealing and trying to escape after it grew in size from eating all the other shit in my fridge, and possibly my dogs if it got out. Pithlit: sentient drugs, now that is an idea ... OneMoreRobot: Idea? It's a fuckin' reality. You know Salvia? Nigga stole my TV.

Live/Dead is an excellent suggestion, especially Dark Star but if your into the more abstract dead Anthem of the Sun is great. It always put me in a good place for tripping. Good luck

I almost forgot! If you want a good live set of some great Dead songs try, Dead Set. Its vibe is a little more laid back than Anthem of the Sun. Ooh yeah nvm Europe 72 is a great suggestion

Anything from 1977 is amazing. 1969 was a good year too. The Furthur show from All Good 2010 was awfully badass. Not real Dead, but it's good.

this show is from 89 and it's one of the best grateful dead shows of all time
-------------------- I fucking hate you... God damn, I love you... But we both know if we stick together, we'll just tear ourselves apart You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are grey You are my heroin, but there's an abscess... God damn, I miss the vein!

Here is my alltime favorite dead concert/ dvd:
Grateful Dead - Full Concert - 12/31/78 - Winterland (OFFICIAL)
This is the closing of Winterland concert. The music starts around 30 minutes in after the new years festivities, I would skip to 29 though to catch the intro.

-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

I really have been getting into the late 80s.
Edit: Sancho beat me to it.
Edit:another 80s rec.
Watched this whole show last time I tripped out. The west LA fade away is one my favorites right now. It really rips. There are a few slower ballad type songs that can be hard for introduction dead, but I would bounce around you tube concerts to find your preferred style.
This guy's channel is a gold mine.

80s dead is the shit. yeah, it's a lil less jamming, but brent mydland on keyboards and his b3 hammond organ take the dead to a whole new level.
i fucking love brent.
