Ever since I started mea I've been getting this weird growth this is a b+ I just inoculated now the other two haven't done anything I did them at the same time in front of my hood I was using pda and never had an issue like this and the only thing that changed was the agar recipe I PC for 45 minutes cause I use sticks of agar ... but I had inoculated a mazatapec plate and it just dried out and left something like that on there and I know the syringe is clean I've used them before and they been in my fridge since I got them in March ... the recipe I use is 30 g malt 20 g agar and 1000 ml water

30g is pretty rich for MEA, 20g per 1L is more normal and for spores I use 10g MEA 10g agar per 1L. They seem to have an easier time getting started on that.

So you think the mea is just over powering the spores? It smelled pretty funky in there

That sure does look like a pretty bacterial syringe...

Well that's the first time using the b+ but the other two have no signs of that? I'm going to try the 10/10 mix weetsie said cause all my spores have been growing funny on the way I did it before or I might just do spores on the pda I was doing before they colonized quick and loved it

Im not sure what that is in the photo, bacteria or yeast but not b+.
A think a weaker agar mix is good for spores, but thats an issue other than your contam problem.

Haha well of hope it wasn't b+ I probably would never grow them again Lmao ... I'm going to the lake today till tomorrow so when I come back I'm going to try a weaker mea and do some pda like I was doing before and see how it goes if it is a bad syringe I'll have to get ahold of the vendor .. also I've noticed on some transfers I have done if I broke the agar with the blade it did them same thing I just thought it was a sloppy transfer but I know for a fact these spore drops were extra sterile so maybe it is yeast

try digging a little chunk out of the middle of a dish and put a drop of spores into it then leave the dishes somewhere undisturbed.
Myc can outgrow bacteria on agar but if you have just a tiny bit of liquid on the surface of the agar it can spread the bacteria all over when you move them about.

Ya I've read that cause some of the ones I didn't use I kept the foil on and kept them in the fridge and had the condensation just stay in there I'm going to have to do a pour instead of being lazy with the no pour

If condensation is such a huge issue that you can't just dump the water out in the SAB I'm not sure pour agar is going to solve the issue entirely.

I wasn't saying it was a huge issue just thought a pour would make it not be as bad but what I was saying is the thing I read on here said once the condensation sat on the mea for a period of time it sometimes made the top look funny ... but the sides of my pasty plates have alot more condensation on them from pc'ing

I just let them chill for a couple days and they never have condensation. If they did I would just dump it out.
