How important is breakfast to you?
    #23406013 - 07/03/16 02:57 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

There are many factors that influences a breakfast.

Food intake the day before, time you to to sleep, time you wake up, how much time you have to play with, how much stress you are under, how much money is in your bank account, how much food is in your shelves/fridge, what breakfast products your local shop/supermarket offers, how much energy you have and of course your own individual mindset.

Does your breakfast intake or lack of help you?

Could you improve it?

It's usually water, oj, or beer. Two of those have nutrition. The other is water.

I am not a natural breakfast eater, but have, over years of practice, pushed myself into making it the most calorie dense meal of my day. I feel it to be massively important, but I'm not a morning person; I tend to feel quite lazy for the first hour of waking.

I get round this by blending loads of whole foods into a shake, been doing it for years. It works out at 700+ calories, with a balanced macronutrient ratio that's been refined over time, and smashing it down as soon as I can. My body appreciates it, even if my mind sometimes does not.

I'll have it asap after waking, with the exception of if I do some exercise immediately upon waking or if it's a weekend and I feel like relaxing with a coffee first.

I have to eat breakfast or it will be the only thing I think about.  I eat before bed and wake up hungry.  I feel it is very important to eat breakfast.  If you choose to do intermittent fasting and not eat breakfast, make sure to eat healthy food and not junk, and not eating breakfast is not an issue.

I do have really good genetics. I also think I make up for it with huge lunches and dinners and a fuckton of snacks.

I think it mostly has to do with me being an alcoholic. My stomach is always outta whack in the mornings

Ever try drinking milk in the morning? A lot of the time I have to wake up as early as 3 or 4AM and most of the time I can't really handle solid food that early so I usually just pound a cup or two of water then sip a pint of chocolate milk

Anyway this thread made me hungry for breakfast so I might go down to the diner later cuz I gotta go down that way to meet my buddy anyway

I dunno if they serve breakfast all day tho, I'd be surprised if they didn't, most diners worth their salt do

It tends to kickstart my digestive system in a way, usually by the time I'm done the milk my tummy is roaring at me for something solid

Sometimes it doesn't tho and in that case I just drink coffee afterwards and that always makes me hungry

When I'm on a more natural sleep schedule to me, I tend to not eat breakfast often, or just a light breakfast. My favorite is a small bowl of steamed rice with kimchi and some other preserved veggie - I like bamboo shoots in oil. Or else maybe some noodles with vinegar and soy sauce. But I also like porridge with currants and honey, or nuts and honey, or banana and brown sugar, or whatever. Then again, hard to pass up a bagel with cream cheese, too.

That said, while I often don't eat in the mornings normally, the past few months I've been getting up around 4am on a pretty regular basis, and when I'm up that early I just can't wait until lunchtime to eat. I also don't normally drink too much coffee, because I like tea better anyway. But getting up that early, I tend to drink straight espresso, and a good deal of it.

But generally speaking, if I had my way when I DO have breakfast it's rarely ever going to be American type "breakfast food." Maybe grapenuts or a bagel. But I don't like too very sweet (a little honey in my oats is fine, not a lot) or too very greasy first thing in the morning. I'd rather eat "regular" food in the morning than fill up on pancakes and bacon.

I never eat breakfast, like every, I find I crash out if I do, think I read some place this was because of hypoglycemia, but could be mistaken.  Even when I run/cycle, I sometimes buy those energy gels you're supposed to take after you go so far, this way you don't crash out (bonk), but if I take them to early on in my run/ride, I bonk hard.  It's like my body has to burn off all the excess glycogen stored in my muscles, then once that is finished, I can consume food with no consequence, I have trained my body for endurance.

So what I have found the best thing to do is, to eat a larger lunch and dinner, followed by a snack later in the evening.  I usually eat lunch around 2-3pm, then dinner around 8pm or later, then if sometimes a greek yogurt/fruit for snack later.

But yeah, breakfast just doesn't agree with me, I have been like this since I was younger.

Man, a shake with breakfast? Like a milkshake, with ice cream and stuff? I've never heard of someone doing that with breakfast, that's wild.

Despite my name here I'm an American citizen, and I've never in my life heard of this...unless you mean like a fruit smoothie or something....but still, I'm with you. I like American type bacon (I think in UK call it stripey rashers or something? IDK, my sister spent a couple years in England, I only ever spent a week), I like pancakes with maple syrup, I like waffles...but none of those, to me, are something to have for breakfast. More like a special indulgent treat in the afternoon or something.

But some folks eat that way most days, right first thing in the morning. I don't get it. Also, I didn't realize American Diners were something they had in London...I wish I'd known when I'd visited the UK, it would have been interesting to see a British take on American foods!

I'd usually only manage a banana and a few cups of coffee in the morning but only because I'd normally have such intense munchies at night that I'd eat myself out of both house and home, including big bowls of oats and milk right before going to bed.

I'd wake up not exactly bursting with energy, but I'd simply have almost no hunger.

I've been watching others breakfast recently and it involves lots of wholemeal bread, slices of assorted ham, salami, and various cheeses. Of course coffee with that also.

So we're talking carbohydrate, fat, caffeine and a little protein.

This seems to be their lifelong breakfast sustinence.

Need to get back on pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

There's a lot to be said for seeds.

I'm not big on breakfast....What I actually have as my first meal of the day is more important to me than eating shortly after waking up .

I eat about 2 hours after waking up, and my entire day doesn't feel right if the first thing I eat for the day isn't fruit :smirk: . For about the past 2 years or so I've been eating lots of fruit as my first "meal" of the day. So much so, if I'm going on a road trip, or crashing at someone's house for the night, I'll usually bring fruit with me .

Typically a big ol' pile that consists of two or more of the following....melons, mangos, papaya, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, red bananas. I change it up depending on what's in season.

And after I eat my fruit, I'll have a little bit of something that's sweet and has carbs, and/or something that's a bit salty and has protein...like a muffin, or a cookie, pastry of some sort....and some sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds, or almonds.

Fruit and seeds are the way I start my days.

If I'm going to be doing some rigorous physical activity for the day, like before going snowboarding or anything else that's going to require lots of calories...those are the times I'll get down on a big hearty classic breakfast. Or the morning after a long night of dancing at parties/festivals, I'm down for a HUGE breakfast.

I was a breakfast eater my entire life.  The food associated with breakfast is by far my favourite.  And I made breakfast my biggest and most important meal of the day

I haven't eaten breakfast in 7 or 8 months now.  I now fast for 16 hours and have an eating window of 8 hours where I consume over 3000 calories and all my appropriate macros.  (Intermittent fasting)

I eat from noon to 8.  Generally 2 meals with a protein shake in between. 8pm to noon the next day, nothing.

It's done wonders for my health and performance in the gym

Seriously man, that's pretty fucking wild. Complete opposite of where I been the last 8 years; six meals a day an all. Can you tell me a little more about the benefits you've experienced and what your macros have been?

I used to never eat breakfast because I wasn't hungry in the morning...

but my weight was really low, so I started forcing myself to eat right when I woke up, and I eventually just naturally woke up hungry.

I hardly ever eat breakfast. For one, I don't make time to make something. Second, I am not hungry when I go to work. If anything, I'll make some butter coffee when I get to work and that shit will jazz me up real good.

Not as important as sleep. I ate breakfast for the first time in 4 years this morning. Even then i only ate because i realized i hadn't eaten in almost 2 days and figured that long without eating for me could very easily result in me fainting on the job. I would rather hit the snooze button an extra time.

Fuck food.

I guess i drink kratom for breakfast.

I have been eating cereal, oatmeal, bacon egg n cheez sands, fruit or something in the morning, or whenever I get up within an hour or two (depending on the previous night). I have been eating pbj, cereal, or oatmeal for the last few years because if I don't I feel bad/shaky. Drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee most times, but not always. More than 2 cups makes me shaky and weird feeling, like a speed comedown. I eat about 4-6 times a day most times. I like to eat several times a day as opposed to large meals 1-3 times a day. I snack a lot and split my meals up into 2's.

First, we must ponder the deep philosophy of the phenomenon called "breakfast."

Is breakfast defined by the type of food eaten, the first meal independent of the time of day, relative to the amount of time awake, or dependent on time of day (ie, breakfast is only between certain hours)?

If you were going to a job interview for a high-paying corporate position and the CEO wanted to meet you for breakfast, then it's implied you're meeting them in the morning, no?

Can a person wake up and eat non-breakfast items for breakfast if eat it first thing in the morning, or right when they wake up?

A person could order breakfast at a restaurant outside of breakfast time if they serve it all day or whatever.

I would wager that for most people, breakfast not only indicates the time of the day when the meal is eaten, but what exactly can be expected to be eaten.

There are always exceptions, people who simply enjoy what they enjoy around the clock, without giving regards to what is considered the social norm.

Someone habitually used to and solely exposed to a 'light breakfast', would probably not dream of a hefty, meat heavy breakfast.

This also is probably true for the 'heavy breakfast eater'.

A light breakfast is not going to cut the mustard for these people.

The longer time goes on, the more I find out that I don't want to get set in my ways.

Diversity in diet can only be a good thing.

This internet ultra pro-bacon stuff is just ridiculous.

I am on the internet since ten years.

Before that, I simply enjoyed bacon and so did everyone I knew but not more than anything else and I did not hear this zealot baconism that I hear today.

Oh, smoking cigarettes causes cancer and reduces years of life so I would never do that but I sure can't get enough of bacon.

Please.
