Who else is into these? I'm currently downloading Cities Skylines and Anno 1404.

Any recommendations?

Used to be a huge fan of Age of Empires/Mythology, then grew out of combat focused games and more into economic growth/sustainability/management.

I recently downloaded Stronghold crusader since I used to love it when I was younger, but it's pretty easy or impossible, depending on how many and which enemies you put in the scenario

I also played factorio for a while and found it pretty nice

I need to download some games to rely on since Im getting my connection down because I'm moving out but that will require some time to get new connection and sthuff

I like that anno one, probly chekin it out

Anno 1404 is probably my favorite of the entire Anno series. You could always go Dwarf Fortress if you wanna do hardcore management/growth/sustainability simulation...

Yea I'm loving Anno 1404!

Someone put me on to Dwarf Fortress a few years back, but starting off it seemed too complicated haha. Didn't get far enough to enjoy it.

those rimworld graphics and animations remind me so much of prison architect.

DOW 2 wasn't really a strategy game, more an rpg if anything. Dawn of War was a proper (and very good) RTS

My favourite RTS of all time is Total Annihilation.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance is my favorite RTS. Very similar to Total Annihilation. Though, Ashes of the Singularity might take that spot. The whole "fighting on three fronts with thousands of units" thing is much more entertaining than Starcraft-esque APM micro.

As long as you stay away from Supreme Commander 2 (which is much more like a mediocre Starcraft clone) you'll like those.

You guys might enjoy Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion

Total annihilation reminded me of a cross between C&C and Sins~

Rise of Nations was one of my favorite RTSs.  Its Age of Empires but better, more complex, with better systems.

It's pretty old now, but Supreme Commander is pretty great.

Supcom was a game where the designers made a game they wanted to play. Supcom I could argue is better than Total annihlation, certainly fun, but I love TA, so many good memories.

I've played 69 minutes of ashes so far. Not enough to pass judgement. Right now I'm having too much fun playing euro truck simulator 2. A game about doing deliveries. My main job is doing deliveries (I do a day a week as general dogsbody/computer tech/secretary for a record cleaner company) and yet my entertainment is doing deliveries. I feel like Fry when he gets the year 3000 work assessment and gets all excited when he finds out he's not a pizza boy anymore, he's a courier.

The only reason I prefer Supcom to TA is UX. TA was a bit clunky, sort of like comparing dune to C&C. (If I remember correctly, selecting and controlling groups of units in TA was a pain, much like how in dune you could only select and give orders to one unit at a time.) Supcom also made great strides in AI and general control, with the repeating build orders, ability to put together complex order trees and coordinated attacks. It's always fun to watch your wing of bombers come in seconds after an artillery barrage, followed by a wall of cannon fodder and some T3 assault bots stepping in range literally as the bombs hit. The 1000 unit cap helped quite a bit here.

I haven't played enough Ashes to pass concrete judgement either, but the scale is on par with Supcom. The one major flaw (for my playstyle, this may be a boon to normal people) with Ashes is the fixed resource generation directly proportional to the amount of territory controlled. I normally played super-turtle with Supcom, making fields of power/mass fabricators and relying on tech and building an economy in my tiny corner of the map to rival all of the mass deposits present on the map. Sure, it's not really a viable strategy against expert players (and if you're playing more than two cheating bots, you needed the mod that cut strategic missile defense building times by 10), but combined with an early T2 rush to distract, you could generally outbuild everyone else and just walk an army of 20 Ythothas into wherever needed to get torched to the ground. If you were in a team game and the other guy with you was a competent rusher, even better.

Homeworld 2 is where it's at, man. Tough as nails, but really fun.

If you want something Homeworld-ish but more grand strategy/X4, try Stellaris. I personally started out enjoying it a lot, but it ended up feeling broken and somewhat repetitive after a while.

Age of empires 2

Its my all time favorite game and definitely the best in the series. The steam version got a new addon recently although the game was released in 1999
