The biggest deference between America and Canada is culture, we have a toxic culture, not from having too many guns but from having no morals and an unwillingness to address root causes of crime
This is plausible and a viewpoint I'm willing to consider
And while I agree the culture is toxic, why would you give a toxic culture crazy easy access to weaponry? Perhaps the toxicity can't be fixed? That is an idea to perhaps swallow, no matter how hard it may be.
All I know is, no matter what you guys do, short of going martial law and cracking down, gun crime and massacres will continue to climb. It makes me sad for all you good folks down there

The problem with "stats" is that they are hollow in many ways.
I'll tell you what didn't happen 20 years ago...
20 years ago you didn't have sandy hook. Mowing down kindergarten children. My son is that age. I can't even fathom a man walking into his school and unleashing bullets like that
Perhaps it's just a sick culture like the other poster said and has nothing to do with guns
But I don't think a sick culture needs access to guns so easy
Regardless of all these opinions and theories....I know that where I live, I'm happy, free and have reasonable access to firearms in my opinion
So on that biased basis, I applaud California

a little off topic but get this:
California has recently passed laws making falsely reporting a gun as stolen a felony, and making actually stealing a gun a misdemeanor.
How backwards is that

Okay so now the question becomes, do you punish all the law abiding citizens just becuase a handful of bad apples?

Whatever is causing our mass shootings, has nothing to do with easy access to guns

That absolutely wrong. Deaths by firearms is at an all time high,
Don't tell me California's gun laws don't work either, they have one of the lowest rates of gun deaths in the country.

Canada's tight gun regulations isn't "punishment"
The problem with the average American is an over inflated sense of self-entitlement.(not saying this is you necessarily)
...taking something away that worked 100 years ago but not might be the best today, isn't punishment

80 million Americans right now enjoy the freedoms to own firearms, taking them away is punishing them for a crime they didn't do
If gun ownership was the problem, believe me, you'd know it. It's not, someone cited our "sick society"
A lot of people are killed every year because of drunk driving accidents, why is there no call to ban alcohol?

Your state has one of the highest gun death rates in the country. Twice the rate of California.
States with the lowest firearm death rates:
Code:
Wisconsin 8.2 486 California 7.4 2935 Iowa 7.4 239 Minnesota 6.6 374 New Jersey 5.3 468 Connecticut 4.9 186 New York 4.2 869 Massachusetts 3.2 227 Rhode Island 2.9 33 Hawaii 2.6 40

Of course it's not, you think I was blaming your messiah Obama, in fact I'm merely pointing out mass shootings are increasing even though access to firearms has stayed essentially the same. Maybe instead of just insulting you can attempt to answer why...

No it isn't. I just explained my thoughts on this.
It's time to re-evaluate punishment. You shouldn't feel entitled to own a firearm. I sure as hell don't lol

Why do I even bother trying to discuss facts, right? I mean obviously if my tongue isn't wedged firmly up Obama's ass I'm just a "faux bot" right?

Because guns arnt heavily restricted and every nut out there is realizing he can buy a rifle for a few hundred and be immortalized by the news before the days over. Ease of access is the problem. What other possible fucking factor would it be?

There was a call to ban intoxicated driving. And it's strict as fuck. It cut down a lot of drinking and driving incidents.
Do people still do it ? Sure. But it was statistically reduced with making it illegal

Why is everyone focused on rifles when they are responsible for approximately 3% of gun violence? The majority of violence comes from criminals who obtain stolen pistols (something CA just made a misdemeanor) or get them through straw purchases which is already illegal and punishable with 10 years in federal prison.
