For sure. I had 3- 3 yr olds that fell and i lost them thwy were so small. Start them off on rock and be patient. They take at least 3 years to show any growth.

I'll put the seedlings in my will if I need to. What do you mean start them on rock?

They are not difficult to germinate nor particularly sensible. They behave like Strombocactus but are A LOT slower, and since the chances of messing things up are directly related to the time it takes them to be big and robust, you'll have lots of chances of drowning them, letting them dry, sunburn them, etc. Expect 2mm / year growth rate. Good luck.

Germination is the least of his worries. They germinate readily but keeping them alive is a differenr thing. So i germinated 100 seeds or so i bought 100 seed pack and a lot of them gwrminated but i ended up with only 3. They die off slowly. It happens.

Oh and look up my stone eater thread for all the details of growing on rock.

That's an excellent thread. I got some granite chicken grit. I was thinking something like 40grit/30perlite/30vermiculite.
