Does the "gay voice" come naturally after coming out?

How does a gay male acquire a "gay voice"? Does it come naturally after they come to terms with their sexual orientation or do they have to work on it to perfect it. I was at the store the other day and their was a worker there named Maurice and he was what one would call a "flamer". I wondered did he have to practice that or did it come naturally. This thread is not meant to offend anyone.

Its natural i guess. Gay people USUALLY have the lisp/accent long before they come out. Its just part of their feminimity. That being said, I am gay but you wouldn't know. I don't do feminine things, don't talk like that, and don't dress flamboyant.

Flamer is ofensiv op. Here's the terms generally used to describe gay folk. I'm at work so i won't be able to define them all, I'll try and add the def. in later tonight.
Twink Bear Top Bottom Power bottom Twinkversatile Twank Twonk Otters
Most people use only the first five.

I'm sure there's a small percent that do it just because, but I've known my friend's brother since he was six (he's 20 now) and we'd always mess with my friend and tell him there was no way his brother wasn't gay solely because of his voice, he'd deny it like crazy but sure enough at 17 he came out to his family. Same with a few kids who were in my classes in school, they just always sounded like that even before they admitted being gay or anyone knew for a fact they were, I'd say at least 95% of the time it's just natural.

I think it's acquired, usually people who talk like that do so because they have lots of friends who are also like that. You are very much like your friends and the people you spend time with, you pick up each other's habits.
There's a documentary about this that came out recently, Do I sound gay?, it went into the origins of this and apparently it came about in the last century from gay men distinguishing themselves from society which ostracized them by modeling themselves after the cultural image of an intellectual and it morphed from there as they developed their own communities.

Yeah I have a friend that had the same thing. He had a gay voice all through elementary school and finally came out.

Totally depends on the individual I am sure, the one gay guy I'm close with however doesn't sound gay at all except when he talks with women, then he really exaggerates his exuberance and goes up an octave. His natural voice is pretty deeps, but its really funny how women love the shit out of him for being gay. behind their backs hes actually the most misogynistic dude I know ha

Probably both. Some have it naturally, some try to sound like that on purpose.
The majority of gay dudes I know/have known don't have that voice. I can only think of one or two off the top of my head that did. I either once asked my best friend why he doesn't talk that way or he just offered it up (can't remember) but basically he finds it as annoying as the homophobes who complain about it.

I've never had a problem with gays, but effeminate men bother me so bad.
I find that voice more annoying than anything I've ever heard.
If you like dick, I get that, that's your thing. Just bitch it up a little.

I never minded gay dudes, I can't really stand the stereotypical flamboyant gay dudes and while that is certainly not the majority of them they definitely still exist, them being gay doesn't even have anything to do with it, doesn't matter what their sexual orientation is because if they dress like that and act like that then they're just weird and fucking annoying.

I notice I let out my gay lisp a lot more nowadays ever since I mostly came out
Its usually a softer tone
When I was a kid I would talk deep and monotone to hide it and make myself appear more heterosexual

I think some people just naturally talk that way, sexual orientation doesn't always play a role in it but usually it does to some extent
I'm bi myself but you would never know it from talking to me because I naturally have a deep, masculine voice
