Psilocybe mexicana strain A is noted for its exceptional sclerotia forming abilities but it can be fruited under controlled conditions. Substrate is grass seed cased with sterile peat and calcium carbonate in a 4:1 ratio. Fruiting temperature is 75-78F with good air exchange.

I think best would be to click the link in Workman's signature..... Workman, I love it how those mushrooms have twisting stems... I observed the same also with P. azurescens.

Just did, thanks. Workman -- could you expand on what you mean by controlled conditions, i.e. would temperature fluctuations prevent/induce fruiting, ph of substrate/casing, r.h. of the environment, and air exchanges per day. Thank you very much for the information. puggy

Do you find that you need to let the casing colonise for longer than usal before starting fruiting? Im asking as I've read it a few times now, and just wondered your thoughts. Edit; beautiful flush, quite large caps

One day later. Plenty of spores. Pure calcium carbonate was used in the casing instead of the less soluable crushed oystershell with better results. No cold shock, casing was applied and the tray was put immediately into the fruiting chamber with fruits forming 14 days later. Minimal sclerotia formation noticed in this particular casing.
