Genetics and spawn.

No matter where I look I can't seem to find a straightforward answer to these questions.  That, or I don't understand what I read.

Is it bad to keep using spores/tissue from the same mushrooms you've been growing?  Is this the subject not applying too many generations from the same mushroom?  Does any specific species have it's own behaviour on this issue?

Also is there a fundamental advantage to creating mushroom spawn vs just recycling the mycelium you already have?  Why should I create grain spawn for my oysters if I can just break a colonized block and use that as spawn?

Mycelium ages as it grows and if you keep using the same mycelium for generation after generation (such as cloning a fruit each grow) it will eventually start to suffer, slow, low yields, mutations etc. Using spores will give you fresh genetics, resetting the clock.

Spent mycelium is exhausted from putting all it's energy into producing fruits, it will be contaminated from being in an unsterile enviroment for a month and will be less likely to be able to compete when you add it to fresh uncolonised substrate. It can work, it is just a lot less reliable and you will run into the same senescence problems as you're growing on progressively older spawn every time.
