I didn't have to read it, because it wasn't 1984 yet.

It was written in 1948

Another of Patlals potato salad threads. Such a robust blend of blandness and simplicity.

i haven't read any of orwell's fiction, but 1984 is on the list. here is a website with all of his political treatises on it that some of you might enjoy.

I read it 4 or 5 years ago. Its an awesome book, and he crafts it so well it blurs the line between fiction and reality and makes you wonder if we arnt already headed there. We already got spy teles strapped to our hips in the form of smartphones. They spy on everything. They have total control of the media. The wars are clothed in psyops. In a lot of ways it feels like the idea is already being realized in a more naunced and subtle way then whats presented in the book. The story itself is a bit of a caricature of what could happen but right now, at this very moment we're already subjected to a lot of what he covers. Its definitely sobering to think about.

1984 was required reading in 10th grade lit class, loved the book then, still love it.

Now that you have read the book, go watch the movie.

I had to read Romeo & Juliet in school english. Fucking Shakespearean language. Fuck it. In the ear. And the ass.

Newspeak = PC

Thought police = sjw's

1984 = 2016

At the time of its writing,

this was the house committee of unamerican activities purging all communist thought (while the US' income tax was at 90%)

You choose to carry them.

If a rape or murder takes place and the police can get a lead by 'pinpointing all the smart phones' in the vacinity at the time, then why not.

I'ts not all bad. This cunt
only got caught because his daughter was dna tested 32 years later.

I wouldn't be surprised if smart phones didn't have a chip installed that could automatically sends the thumprint, of the person most often using it, ie the owner, to a central data base.

By the way, I don't think the the government, or the police give a shit about your life enough to snoop, unless you are implicated in some crime. :shrug:

I dont give a fuck about a single murder victim. Im not willing to give up my security and privacy for the life of a single person. Its something I dont want, and I dont give a fuck about the appeal to fear. Murders are gonna happen regardless, rapes are gonna happen regardless. You wanna impact their numbers build a better society, dont build up government powers.
