First timer PF-Tek Golden Halo Rust Spore

Hi guys,
This is my first grow.
So I've got 8 cakes in fruiting, waiting for pins etc. Lost 2 cakes to trich during colonization, and grated one into coir tray 1:2 ratio.
So far so good, except Im HORRIBLE at indetifying whether the cakes are dry, or moist enough. I dont know how they should look like. One cake is badly bruised, lack of misting??
Please, any guidance will be greatly appreciated!

its probably bruising at those spots because the verm didnt stick right there. so when you are misting, the water is rolling down to the verm below it.
and then your cake is pinning at the very bottom, because of similar reasons. the miscro-climate there is more ideal for them, so they decide to grow there
i dont know if i would necessarily mist more, since the verm does kinda look wet, but idk. had you misted right before you took these pictures?
is the SGFC built to spec? holes on ALL SIX sides? and away from walls, and raised up off the table about 4-6in, at least?

Yea, 1/4 drill bit size a bit closer then 2 inches apart all 6 sides.
I misted about 3 hours before the pics were taken.
And I mist them generally about 3 times a day.
I find it really easy to tell whether the tray is "glistening" or dry, but not the cakes

hmm. i mean, if that's the case, then im not sure dude. i mean, in the pic, the verm does look slightly damp, so with that being 3 hours ago, it seems youre misting fine.
my guess would have to be that it's from water not being able to sit on that spot for long enough, and dripping down to the verm, before it gets that hydration. but then again, the myc will give water to where it ii needed, so im really not all that certain about that.
someone more experienced is gonna have to weigh in.

I'm suspecting that my perlite is not wet enough. I poured about 200ml using a syringe throughout the perlite in between the cakes yesterday, and nothing even dripped out of the bottom. I found that odd.
In saying that though, when I first laid the perlite into my tote, I shook it until no more drops came out, as per the tek.

how did you prep it,, and how long has it been since then?
when you prep it, you want to run water through it until its pouring out through the bottom, then let it drip until its is just barely dripping anymore.
and then, every month or so, re-hydrate it. or even re-hydrate it in between flushes
EDIT - i missed that last sentence. ok, so how long since you prepped it?

I just poured 2 of these, directly on the perlite between the cakes, and no water is dripping out of the bottom..

Right, so got home from work today, and my tray has some pins!

Dry as shit perlite could have been the issue
Let that be a lesson to everyone else starting out with SGFC.. Do NOT shake the shit out of your perlite when draining!
