colonizing on bottom of jars?
    #2335885 - 02/14/04 11:46 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

My buddy has a bunch of 1/2 pint jars that he innoculated (with EQ) a little over a month ago. Several of them appear to be 100% colonized except on the bottom of the jars where the wet substrate seems to have settled. Should he go ahead and drop the heat and try to induce pining or hold off and wait for the bottoms to turn white?

turn them upside down and give more time... Patience is key. They will soon start to colonize the bottom.

Are the inoc holes covered with tape?  Tape is a no-no!   Most living things need air.  Myc is no different!

Loosen the lids a bit, uncover any holes and try flipping 'em over.

But first, smack 'em on the palm of your hand to drop the cake away from the bottom of the jar a bit.

Leave them upside down like this in your incubator and see if things pick up.

yeah there was tapes on the holes i guess he figured the cakes wouldnt dry out so fast that way and they would be more protected from contams.

ok so he took the tape off, flipped the jars over and separated the cakes from the bottom of the jar. the cakes look a little dry so now he's thinking he should dunk them before the first flush to rehydrate the cakes.

How much is uncolonized? Since you say it's already been over a month, AFOAF would probably just cut out the uncolonized portion (depends on it's size though.)

"A nation's hope of lasting peace cannot be firmly based upon any race in armaments but rather upon just relations and honest understanding with all other nations...

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..."

theres mycellium covering most of the surface of the cake except for a few small little chunks where the growths from the different innoculation sites havent come together yet, and in several jars the mycellium looks really thin on the bottom. so he's gonna let it sit and see if it fills out now that he's gotten it off the glass.
