I am looking at building a flow hood and getting started on some edible grows in hopes of supplying a couple of farm to fork places in town. Anyway the question is does the chamber behind the hepa filter have to have a specific volume or does it just need to be deep enough to accommodate the plenum of the blower motor?

I think as long as your fan is producing enough pressure and your filter creates enough resistance you will get laminar flow and you're good to go. Plenty of hoods you see around here have a chamber behind the filter no larger than the exit of the fan.

Thanks guys. I didn't think so but as I always say the dumbest question is the one that wasn't asked.

With a small plenum you will see slightly higher air speeds at the bottom vs the top, but it wont affect the concept too much, you will still have a nice pocket of sterile air.

So by that thought then is if the volume behind the filter is larger and the blower farther back you will get a more even flow?

Yes, baffles should help split the flow up too if you want to get anal but its not needed.

What are you using in this picture to heat up your PC?

Pc is in the lab to keep eveything together. No transporting. My lab is far from optimal being in my garage but it works well.

Grower is the 1500W cooktop an induction cooktop? I have been looking into getting one of these, but they are not supposed to be used with aluminum I think. I was thinking of getting a cast iron pan and putting it between the cooktop and my PC.
