Dog accidentally eats wild mushrooms * 1

Eight-month-old Roxy was playing at a ranch when she gobbled a batch of wild shrooms she found in a cow pat

Magic mushrooms are one of the most psychoactive, mind altering substances on the planet - a fact which this dog found out the hard way.

The dog, named Roxy, was running around a ranch playing when she came across a patch of wild shrooms in cow pat.

In the video, the canine, whose eyes appear extremely dilated, stumbles several times having appeared to have lost all co-ordination.

The owner of the eight-month-old Border collie said he rushed her to the vet shortly after filming the video to get to the bottom of her odd behaviour.

Vets revealed that the dog had indeed consumed a batch of so-called magic mushrooms and was experiencing the side effects, which can include disorientation, sickness, and a warped sense of time and movement.

Her owner claims the dog appeared to be "enjoying the experience", adding that the vet explained many dogs actually go looking for the intoxicating fungus.

Thankfully, Roxy had no medical problems and was back to playing as normal once the high wore off.

The one minute 45 second long video was posted to YouTube by I Bmac in February 2014 and has more than 132,000 views.

According to Frank , magic mushrooms a slang word for psilocybe semilanceata or ‘liberty cap’ mushrooms and any other mushroom which produces similar ’trippy’ effects, like hallucinations.

Similar to humans, dogs can ingest some forms of mushrooms without falling ill, but owners are advised to be vigilant to ensure the strain is not poisonous.

Roxy suffered no medical problems when the effect of the fungus wore off

I would be really worried if my dog started acting like that.

I have seen a dog on shrooms before and it was nothing like that, not to discount the video in any way.

I was at a little family gathering. We were eating shrooms at my uncle's place. I was high as balls, I look over and he's feeding the dog shrooms under the table. I said something about it but the damage was done and I didn't want to flip my lid so I didn't press the issue. I kept a close eye on the dog because I was concerned it would get violent. It's half wolf, half husky and has some wild about him. He just kind of laid down and chilled out. He seemed pretty content. He got the munchies pretty bad. Definitely was easily startled though, you wouldn't have wanted to sneak up on him. I don't think anyway. I was pretty high at the time so some of the details might be fuzzy. I do vibrantly remember some lizard people though.

I was going to post this a few days ago but snoozed. Wonder if the dog had a fun time

my friends' dog would constantly sneak into their garden and start chowing down 6-12" into their compost pile (think a small windrow).  not sure what concoction of bacteria/fungi/rotting organism(s) was getting her high, but she would be out of this fucking world.  lots of times couldn't walk straight, constantly shifting her head back and forth like she was hearing things, eyes dilated as all hell, then after an hour or so she'd crash and sleep most the day or evening

she definitely enjoyed it.  was a daily battle keeping her out, with lots of fence repairs/filling-in where she'd dig under

That is hilarious! I wish they had taken video. I wonder what that dog thought about its experience. Border collies are the smartest dogs after all.

Edit; Holy shit, they did take video! That is awesome!

My male Golden Retriever named Jack, when he was around 9 months old, got into my leftover mushrooms that I used to make tea. (Spent mushrooms)

He ate a lot of them out of the garbage without me realizing it.

He had probably eaten only a couple-few grams of spent mushrooms.

I took him outside and took him off his leash (had a very large property)
He was running back and forth crazily, crazy fast and irregularly excited.

I ran around with him until he got tired, then I took him inside.
In my room, he layed down and was just panting softly, Clearly tripping.

I just sat there with him and loved him and was nice to him and gave him company.
After he was calm he just layed there panting lightly, awake for a while before he fell asleep.

He had a trip, clearly.
Seemed to be a good one.

That dog was tripping balls. It's a weird feeling when you know exactly what that dog is going through.

I'd actually like to know what that dog is going through, it's bound to be somewhat different from what a human goes through on shrooms. I do recognize that expression though.

That's the part that's weird about it. Here is this totally foreign concious experience, and yet we can kindof maybe understand some of what it's going through. That's a bizarre feeling having that tiny window into a dog's mind.

I really wish the media was more responsible than this but what the fuck can I expect.

I took my now passed dog to the emergency vet one night while we were mining and camping on site. She was seizing, drooling, panicking etc. I was concerned that she had gotten into coyote bait or was having a neurologic episode that needed monitoring. The er vet said everything was unlikely except that she probably ate psilocybin mushrooms. It was mid may in northern California near Alturas. There are no psilocybin species that live out there, but this vet tried to tell me they did. I told him I was nearly an expert in the field and he just threw his hands in the air. There are a lot of environmental and chemical factors that can cause a dog to act like it's hallucinating, but psilocybin is very rarely the cause. The same thing happened to my dog a week later and she was hit by a car after getting spooked and running off. If that fucking vet had a clue she'd still be with me and getting treatment for whatever neurological problem it was.
