In my climate, I have found they do better in some shade or under greenhouse cover.

Southernblues said: I was recently gifted several E. Nova cuttings and a germinated seed. The cuttings have been in a dome under 24hr light for the past ten days and seem to have rooted. I’ve read that most people have not had success so any advice would be greatly appreciated. The seed has been in soil for 5 days should I help it out of its shell or let it go?

the low success rate is due to the fact that everyone does the counter intuitive action of trying to provide full nutrition soil, coca seedlings hate too many nutes. the plant has evolved to use less. and over feeding is quickly fatal.

I need some help with my new E. Novo seedlings. They’ve been growing nicely but all 4 of them have started having what appears to be yellow dots on the leaves. They were planted mid-May. They’re under a pool screen so they receive partial light for part of the day and the rest of the day they’re in the shade. Located in FL. Always watered with distilled water or rain water. No ferts. Drawing a blank on the soil mix right now but it’s nothing super hot

Bob, not 100% certain, but my best guess would be too much light. These definitely prefer the shade. I keep my big plants under some papaya trees, no direct sunlight.

Hey all sorry for reviving an old thread bit I figured this was better than a new one. So I'm currently searching for some ethroxylum seeds and ebay is all i can find. I'm just curious if any of you have gone this route before and had success with shipping and germination? I would love to be able to join this thread with a plant of my own!

As long as the berries are fresh and ripe, they should be viable. There is a good guide to germinating novo berries here.

This and a few cacti are all that’s left of my garden. I planted this as a seed 10 years ago. I had three, but lost the other two in the past few years. It’s top heavy, I’ll repot it next year and use a tomato cage to help support it. I had pruned one of the others, it didn’t really respond well so I’m not chopping the top out of this one. I put a few cuttings in peat maybe 6 weeks ago, I hope they root. This plant was covered with flowers and pollinators a month ago, hopefully there will be berries.

Damn that is gorgeous! How big across is it? My flowers generally open and set fruits relatively fast, big one hasn't stopped blooming for months. What happened to your garden? I remember your nice khat.

It’s probably 4 or 5 feet across. It shouldn’t be, it’s droopy because it’s too heavy. I put it in full sun for most of the day 6 weeks ago and it’s grown a lot and started leaning over.
I moved last winter, I just didn’t have space for all of my other plants especially during winter. I kept a few different cacti and the coca, I gave everything else away to Shroomery members through The Marketplace. Winters…that’s the downfall of this hobby. I brought a bunch of small millipedes into my new house by keeping the coca inside. It still suffered and dropped a lot of leaves, I’ll come up with a better plan this winter likely involving LED aquarium lights and a barrier of diatomaceous earth around the outside of the pot.

Planted some berries a few weeks ago and went out of town recently. Came home to 100% germination and very healthy looking sprouts. These are all E. novogranatense.

Color’s looking just a bit off on this little one’s true leaves. Y’all think it’s anything to worry about? The novo germinated three weeks ago

Wouldn't be too worried, the leaves tend to be a lighter lime green color. They tend to get chlorotic if you are watering with city water.

They’ve all been getting the finest store-brand distilled water. Splotchiness of the leaves is what’s concerning, and gonna ease up on the light a bit in case it’s bleaching. This thread’s got some of the best info around right now, and wanted to double check that the novo isn’t facing imminent death. Love these seedlings.
Much appreciated

They definitely prefer lower light or shade. Maybe raise the lights a bit if you are able. Those are looking good, how old? I have some that are a few months old, putting on third and fourth sets of leaves.
edit: mother plant flowering in the greenhouse, note the color of the leaves.

They’re about three weeks old. The one in the back was started in some wet paper towel in a ziplock and the front one just stuck straight in the peat pot. Got another seed that’s barely sprouted, though the radicle’s somewhat damaged. It’s still growing so got hope.
Your plant is absolutely gorgeous

I know this was a year ago, but were you, or has anyone else had success on ebay? All my novos died a few years ago, but i'm back and set up to give it another go.
