Not sure if they lose viability or just go dormant. In the latter case stratification (cold period), scarification (chemically with these size seeds) or plant hormones could promote germination
Yes once they get old they are much harder to revive. I bought bags of catha seed years back never got a single one to germ and i must have planted 100s, i then bought 10 from a shroomery sponsor expecting the same and every one germinated i now have a fuck load of them growing super fast and strong.

Ok fellas... Novo berries are going to be here either today or tomorrow. Any pointers on soil composition? I believe terra cotta pots are best, correct? I want to make sure I get this right this time. I'm going to be putting every bit of effort needed to get these guys through their fragile seedling phase. Pointers?

It matters for cactus, and certain plants. It's not a huge deal, and I have grown novos for the better part of a year in solo cups before... Terra cotta bleeds moisture off through its pores, so it's harder to over water plants that are grown in them. That's my understanding anyway.

Mine were in the seedling stage for nearly a year. They will be really fragile, maybe for about a year. You'll need to protect them from wind and rain.

I have 32 berries, fellas. This grow is going to be EPIC!
I've decided not to give them any fertilizer for at least the first year. I think that is what has done them in in the past for me. I think I am just going to put a small amount of worm castings in the soil mix. I want the soil to be mostly inorganic. I'm thinking coir, sand, perlite, a bit of vermiculite, some azomite, and worm castings. I also want to give them some mycorrhizal cultures too, to protect them from fungal and bacterial attacks.
I'm gonna add a bit of vinegar to the water that I use for them, to keep the soil a bit acidic. I've done this in the past. Since I live in a dry climate, I think I will grow them in a tote, that I can spray down with water to keep the humidity up, and provide light through the top. That's all I've got for now.
What do you guys think?

Imagine if all 32 make it, youll have a little forest on your hands lol. Mine are in a grow tent 24/7 under cfls dont know about the humidity in there but everything dries up pretty quick. Sounds like you have a good plan, i used fertiliser after about a year only because i couldnt find the correct one and im still dialing it in but i think ive got it perfect now.

I think that when I do use fertilizer, I will use something organic, like fish fertilizer or something... Maybe some of that organic liquid bat shit from fox farm that I have left over from a bud grow. I really only want like 3 little shrubs of coca... How many plants would I need to partake daily... like in the morning or somethin?
I'm going to be giving these badboys away like the hottest fuckin hot cakes if they make it past the year mark! I've given them away in their semi-fragile state before, and everyone I gave them to failed to keep them alive... So I will wait til they are nice and shrubby this time.
This thread doesn't seem to draw much interest, huh? I'm kind of surprised. I can't wait to have some decent sized coca and khat plants! Nice natural stims that won't send me to rehab! lmao ... Coffee makes me too jittery. I don't like it.

That's what I thought lol... Stonehenge has plants that are pretty fuckin enormous though, if I remember correctly. Coca can get 30ft tall, I'm pretty sure. Mine are indoor though..

Stonehenge and bad karma go hand in hand. Never been able to keep a single plant grown from his shitty seed alive. I swear its rittled with bad karma.
I'm lucky modern shaman gave me seed. And its what I have now.

By the way, Ferrel_hooman... how old are those novos? Any pointers?
I shipped off 10 of my berries today, so I'm down to 22, but I'm going to be trying a variety of different things to ensure success, and hopefully be able to offer sound advice to any fellow coca enthusiasts that crop up around here in the future. There really isn't much information at all, which is shocking.

Are you talking about the guide from DBotony? I found it mildly helpful. I don't think novos are particularly difficult either, but I've had them die in unison on multiple occasions for no apparent reason. It's like they die in waves. 3 at a time... 6 at a time... til I'm down to 2 plants, which take a few extra months, and then die lol... I've only attempted to grow them twice though, and maybe I was a bit unattentive during those periods.

I can totally agree with that they just randomly die even when a year old. I think my mistake was due to over watering and a high ph water. Our tap water is fairly high ph not even weed seeds would germinate took me ages to realise i added a drop or two of ph down in 5 litres of water and it all turned around. When they are young even one slight over water can cause irreparable damage ime, my two that dropped all their leafs almost died . The tips of the branches turned black and i thought they were done for. I snipped back the black bits and let them dry out only watering when they were extremely light and one has come back amazingly the other one is still recovering has been for months but its still going.
