They have been moist. The bag was full of liquid from squeezed berries but no air. Maybe they cant germinate without air?
I saw one or 2 berries had germinated though.

I'd sow them. That's a lot of berries! Ive had cactus get lost in the mail for 4+ months. They were severely dehydrated but now they look great!

Only one way to find out if they're still viable I suppose. They look remarkably well considering they've been fermenting for two months in virtually anaerobic conditions.

I was kind of suprised after the water rinse. The seed kernels seem hard and intact, it´s the fruitflesh that has fermented/begin decomposing. It feels like these are going to be OK.
Most of these berries are going to friends. Im going to give these berries/seeds a soak in bleach solution before i send them. I think i will remove the remaining fruitflesh first, then soak in bleach solution. Wash with water, then put the seeds in slightly moist sphagnum moss inside a container and then ship them. Any ideas on bleach concentration for the soak? I dont want taking any chanses so not so strong solution i guess.

Mateo said: About 2 months ago a friend posted an envelope to me containing some E.novo berries. The envelope never arrived, and i thought it was confiscated by customs or somthing similar.
Today the envelope suddenly got delivered. The envelope has not been opened before it arrived to me. It showed signs of some brown gooey substance coming through the paper of the envelope in some places. I opened it and found the bag had leaked and the berries fermented and rottening in there. It smelled really bad from the bag.

The date it was shipped according to the poststamps was almost 2 months ago. I rinsed the berries with water and this is how they are looking now:

Do you guys think these are still viable? The seed kernels look good i think.
I cleaned and rinsed mine in 4 to 1 water/h2o2 solution. Worked out well, and those look very good still.

Tnx Ferrel
H2O2 is definitly a option. The more i look at the seeds/berries the more i get the feeling these will germinate just fine.

Well, i rather want to see myself as an novice hobby botanist and not an cocainist or drug dealer/producer.
My intrest in this only botanical in nature, exept a few experiments with leaf chewing to see the effects of cause. Almost all these berries will be given away to people with a intrest to try grow this amazing plant.

If anyone is willing to provide berries to a fellow gardener in the United States or point me in the direction of some I’d be very grateful
It’d be great to help preserve such a rare plant and add it to my ethnobotanical seed collection :-)

Its allright, no problems here.
Actually i think P.Escobar did some nice things as payed for shools and other things to the people, thats why he was popular with the local people. At least thats what i have read about him.
But he was a drug general, so some of his deeds was probably not so nice.

Asking for, or buying/selling isn´t allowed here in this forum. There is a Marketplace area in this forum and this is the only place where trading is allowed. A discrete PM might work also.
Try to remember this, or you will get warnings and the wrath of the mods.

Such a cool thing to do! I hope more people will consider growing this plant. Inconspicuous in some ways but especially the novos have such pretty rounded leaves and beautiful matte green colors..
Not sure if you can help out brothers and sisters in the US with those after they have already been in a suspended animation for a while. May be worth trying but the viability seems to drop so quickly, delaying germination even more probably won't be so good for the rate...
I'm a little surprised H2O2 isn't bad by killing beneficial bacteria or fungi (I would guess bacteria) on or maybe in the berry flesh which may help with the germination but possibly others in your soil can help with that instead. FWIW antifungals help me avoid damping off and other fungal issues at least for a while though I never tried spraying berries or seeds directly but instead the sowing soil mix.
May they find good homes. I seem to be getting a bit better at this all the time and will aim to prevent issues I have had. Will also research again what about my conditions or soil mix etc might not be optimal. Some plants are definitely more vigorous than others without a clear difference in treatment. Bigger differences than with many other plants IMO and have heard / seen the same with others.
Perhaps you could give everyone about an equal proportion of the reddest berries (those really seem to work the best, most matured I guess?), or you could save more red ones for the lucky receivers living farthest away?

Wow so many. What type of environment where they in before? In like a sterilite inside? Did you have to slowly lower the humidity or did ou just take them out.
