imo heavy pruning early on and constant pruning will help, ideally a plant 4 foot tall should be 3-4 foot wide, creates a lot of fresh growth and keeps it to a manageable size when it comes to harvesting the plant to chew or whatever
But to keep this thread on the right track here is my one and only novo plant

I'm going to prune mine soon and try to root the cuts. Anybody have any advice for that? I really don't need more plants, but I know a buddy that would like them. I guess I'll get out my kratom rooting set up, and try a variety of mediums. Ill have quite a few to experiment with. I'll report back if something works.

A couple of days ago I was visiting a botanical garden. In the tropical greenhouse, they had two beautiful Erythroxylum plants growing, both coca and novogranatense. I had no idea they could grow this large. I estimate both plants were around 4m (13ft) tall. I could only get a decent picture of the E. coca plant:

I pruned mine today. I really didn't noticed just how much they had grown over the past month until today. One was top heavy and kept falling over. The other two had limbs that were just too long and were hanging over the side of the pot. I ended up with a some cuttings to try to root and a bowl full of fresh leaves.

What is the ideal temperature range and soil type for germination? Gonna try my hand at cultivating E. coca var. coca. I have successfully germinated five Latua pubiflora plants by mimicking climatic conditions similar to when the species typcially sets seed in its tropical Valdivian habitat, based off of information gleaned from an old ethnography. Slow grower so far - oldest specimens of the bunch are only just beginning to develop a second set of true leaves after sprouting around the second week of February. Does anyone have resources related to the natural flowering/fruiting times of E. coca?

Lately my mix has consisted of half coco and half ecoscraps potting soil. Then just aDd half a gallon bucket or so of perlite.
