JizzMasterZero said: My novo seedlings spent their first winter under a 250W HPS. Unless your light was 1000W, I question if it really was the light that killed your plants. That winter I nearly lost all of my plants under the light, but it wasn't the light itself. I was using water straight out of the tap and the pH of the runoff was over 8. That and the chlorine nearly wiped out my entire entheo garden in its infancy. Surprisingly enough, the novo seedlings never looked nearly as bad as everything else.
I think the mineral buildup from tap water can be a problem also. I used to water my novos with distilled water that I purchased from the store. I would also add a tiny bit of vinegar to make it acidic. I should probably do that this time around also, but it gets expensive. I was watering my marijuana plants the same way, and ended up with empty water jugs all over my house lol.. The pot plants were in 5 gallon bucket pots.
Maybe it would be a good idea to collect some of the local lake water and sterilize it. Don't know what the pH is though, and there may be chemicals in the water that aren't nice, but the fish are edible. I don't trust pH meters... Can't afford to spend $200 on a good one.

I'm not willing to take that chance with mine. Maybe if I were in Solipsis's shoes...

Yup, tap water really varies in quality, for many people its good enough to grow mj for example, as long as they let the water sit for an entire day so the chlorine evaporates

Same here. I either go to a water station near my house and get a 5 gallon containor for $1.25 or save rain water. Lately its been raining at home but still i got around 15 gallons of rainwater saved up. Lasts long enough.

What is a water station?

I should have been more clear about the water situation. After that happened, I began using water from a nearby river. When summer arrived and I was going through 15 gallons plus a day, I started filling jugs, and letting them sit overnight before using. That has been working for all of my plants the last few years. I never tested to see if pH actually drops after sitting, but I do know that during that time the pH of my tap water and runoff was over 8. I imagine the quality of tap water can vary over time. Regarding pH meters, you don't have to buy one and you shouldn't even if you can afford it. They require frequent calibration and are a pain in the ass. I worked in laboratories for 15 years, and I' can say meters suck, require maintenance, and probes need to be replaced frequently. Get a simple test kit for less than $10 from Amazon. It is cheap, simple to use,and more reliable than a meter. I recommend the one made by General Hydroponics, it has a wide range and is a great product. Everybody that is growing plants in pots or trying to root cuttings should have a way of testing pH. The pH is the first thing to check when trouble shooting problems with your plants. Too many people see a problem and mistakenly blast them with fertilizer, when pH lockout is the problem.

Well to be exact it took 87 days. I expect the others have roots too.
Hope to see some new growth soon! At least a little because winter is coming soon.

What were the temps and humidity levels you had them in ?
And I assume a rooting hormone was used ?

Sorry for the delay! Was kind of busy.
@ BigBadWoof
That's right!
@ matt
room temperature and it was inside my minigreenhouse. Didn't measure anything.
And I didn't use any kind of rooting hormone.
The one I showed you will not make it I think. It began to rot and looks kind of dead now. But the other one withe the single root I will transplant into Citrus soil today. But it will remain in the greenhouse for a while.

Losing the leaves doesn't necessarily mean anything, right? Especially if it could signal the end of a season etc
My tap water quality is among the best in the world and the hardness is moderate but nonetheless I water plants I consider sensitive with rainwater from my dad's raintub. I wanna switch to pondwater cause it seems more convenient (just down the road) and also more 'alive' though it is a relatively new pond. Not so new that it would have unstable levels of nutrients though i think.
I am having a little trouble with new leaf beginnings drying out and falling off but I don't know what's causing that and everything else looks fine...
What I am seeing now is new early fresh green growth at the top and one of the plants still has a dried out thingy on it (a primitive curled up leaf looking like a thick hair almost). Maybe it was just circumstantial.
It's pretty humid right around now, I really hope it's not an infection or something.
Put one of my novo's in my grow unit under blue+white LED but not my 150W MH/HID [yet] or that COB i mentioned which is still suffering from cut-out time probably due to heat issues.
Shelved that problem for now since I really had to get my martha and mushrooms going again after humidifier died on me. (And new oven too in the same room).
Damn! What causes 1 leaf to just go completely limp [and problems with the new growth dying] ?!

Roxy is still looking great. My tap quality varies through out the year. Depends if its snow or rain run off I suppose. I use s pur filter to remove chlorine. Once a week I give a low dose of gen hydro veg nutes
