FUCK YEAH I LOVE DRUM & BASS.
Man I grew up on that shit. Listened to nothing else from about 13 - 18. Constant One Nation or Kool FM tapes playing. Shabba D & Skibba D were hero's. Ever hear them in trio with Socking D? SASAS. Legendary.
Raved to it constantly from about 15 - 27. Then kinda lost it the last few years whilst I grew out of raving and went exploring all the other musical genres.
Then, in the last 6 months, I came across the new shit.
OH MY GOD.
It's fucking sick man.
Wilkinson, Spectrasoul, Rudimental, Breakage, Nu:Tone, etc, etc
I'll talk about D&B with you all day long. Fire away man.

I used to listen to lots of dnb when I was younger, even used to mix it myself. I still have a lot of those records, but I don't really listen to it anymore. Haven't in years. There's still a bunch of super talented producers involved with it though, and it can be really fun party music.

I reckon this is one of the best of the genre in recent years:

Don't have any, I never knew the names of the rave bands I heard back in the 80-90's in Dallas Texas, would love to though. I remember a dj named rob vaughn, and clubs called aqua lounge, SOA, club one, but I do not know any of the names of bands/music. I just know it was fucking awesome and I threaded this to get info/music for my collection. Never got to go to starck club (Dallas) though. The night me and some friends were going to go we got too drunk and stayed home. That was the night the big raid happened! Glad I missed that! Been rolling since 1984 at the age of 19 first time. Still love it!

Thanks man. Gonna listen to that full volume soon as I'm done with 'Breakage - Speechless'.
If anyone listened to that Congo Natty track I posted just now - I hope you have good speakers - I do, and I nearly hit orgasm listening (and dancing) to that baseline...

Well, it was well before D&B became a genre. It went something like
House -> Rave -> Jungle -> D&B
but that's overly simplifying. As you know, genres diversify so much as time passes.
I mean try this for example; it's rooted in D&B, and it's wonderful, but WTF genre actually is it???

so i was jumping and twisting llike a shaman in a field watching the solstice sun rise up over the ancient trackwy on the most hallowed land in europe surrounded by ancient megaliths and traveller vans waiting for the feds to turn up and scream at them DONT NEED NO ONE THATS NO GOOD FOR ME" LOL. They didnt show up tjankfully but it was EPIC.

I spent NYE in Goa many years ago due to the reputation of the psytrance scene there (or Goa Trance as it become known); only problem was - I got there about 5 years too late. You could just tell that the scene was huge there in the late 90's but had been raped due to popularity and over-indulgence and died a bit of a death, as such things do at times.
Luckily, we stumbled across Sunburn a few days earlier elsewhere in Goa and *just* managed to get in for the last day which was topped by the most amazing Armin Van Buuren set:

Good times man. My first festival in the UK was very Techno/Psytrance based. Wasn't really digging the sound back then but a lot more into it now I've had a few nights to seal the sound into the reward pathways of my brain as something that is GOOD.

Want me to share a massive selection of mp3's from that era with you? Got a few hundred, you'll likely know most if you were into the scene in that era.
I just missed it due to age unfortunately. Kinda caught the end of the PLUR attitude and good pills, and it's still out there very occasionally, but for the most part I've found the younger generation have very little of the respect that used to be shown to one another at such raves. Dunno if that's just here; people seem to have lost the art of dancing without crashing into you every 10 seconds IME... Ended up boycotting several clubs in my latter days for this exact reason.
Wouldn't have happened in my day! (shaking my walking stick at them kids!)
Anyway, if you got dropbox lemme know and I'll chuck some nostalgia inducing tracks your way. All with perfect album art and mp3 tags I might add - I'm a bit of anal about my music library...

I found techno after my big dnb phase, 2003ish. Spent a couple of summers chasing tech parties around Europe, really unique sound. I love listening to euro-tech on internet radio still.
The whole scene here at the moment is psytrance, amazing psy like I've never heard before. Lots of guys spending 3 months making an album and playing it only once live, then starting again. Lots of Israeli producer/dj's coming here and getting involved too. Crazy psy jungle hippies.

You got dropbox man? Would love some of the stuff you're talking about, can do a bit of a swap if so!
If not, hit me up with some good producers please.
As you know, I'm coming to northern NSW at the end of the year. I asked my cousin this weekend how far he thought we'd need to go for decent nightlife and he responded resolutely 'Sydney'. Which is about 10hrs drive. Brisbane is 8hrs, but I don't recall it being much of a night life kinda place...
Sounds like you guys throw some good outdoor squat parties though?

We're all about outdoor parties up here, but done on private property with permission so we can turn the cops away at the gate. Wild parties. Full tripping crowd with no fights or BS. It's a bit of a trip from NSW though, long way. They're a bit more stressed down there, though there's still a good psy circuit in southern Qld.
Just forget the night-life though, the clubbing is crap. All beer and meth idiots. Fucked up.

I can totally appreciate how tough DnB can be, but god damn, it's so hard to dance too. IDK to much about DnB bc of that, but some DnB is so fuckin disgusting
At Andy C's set at EDC some of the pyrotechnics messed up and a huge art decoration caught on fire like pretty bad and everyone had to leave the set. That sucks cuz he's a legend

I used to frequently shake hands with that dude, pretty sure he knew me by sight. Fucking wicked DJ, still probably my favourite to this day. There was a wicked club here years ago called The End and the DJ booth was in the middle of the dance floor and had a nice shelf to rest your drink on and we'd always kick it there. I got a great pic of him from there but can't find it for shit.

Wicked. Appreciate the offer man. Gonna head straight to the farm when I land, spend a month working out plans with my cousin to make more money from the land, and will then need to get some work in the financial sector for a few years so I can invest in the property and we can get all the outstanding debts on the land paid off.
Due to my skillset I'll need to be working for the banks, so like CBA/ANZ/etc. I think their head offices are in Melbourne so that's probably where I'm gonna have to live a few years. I'd like to come further up your way but I don't think the work will be up there for me. At least not the kinda wage I can command in a financial centre pf the county.
Plus, I think you guys get a lot more heat and rain up there don't ya? Not my ideal environment as a biker.
I will DEFINITELY fly up to see you at some point though man.

Yeah. It's very hot and wet up here, and good work is hard to find. Not the place for everyone. It's a magic life if you can make this place work, though it doesn't work for most. Totally welcome to swing in for a party though, pick up some NQ vibes.

Yes, very much so, DnB is a fave genre of mine.
I listened to it a great deal growing up, Dieselboy and Andy C were a couple of artists I really enjoyed, I recommend the Blackout podcast for some good modern DnB.
Mindmachine is good.

I've told this story a bunch of times here, but back in the day, when "'zines" were still a thing, I spent an afternoon at Dieselboy's apartment, interviewing him. He was super cool & gave my friend and I a bunch of records straight out of his collection (he had thousands). He even took our addresses down & sent out a vinyl/cd pack of his new mix when it came out. That was a really cool day.

I've seen Dieselboy a few times, and Planet of the Drums once too. It's hard for me to dance to but damn, he goes really hard. He'll drop a bit of dubstep/drumstep too which is nice
That's sick you got to just chill with him at his place before too. He's a huge name in DnB

Drumstep is kinda weird to me. I have a hard time differentiating it from dubstep a lot of the time. It's got the exact same speed & structure as dubstep.
And Planet of the Drums was (is?) awesome. I do agree that dnb is difficult to dance to. You've gotta move fast, it's a lot of fast footwork to make it look like you're moving in time. I think I've seen more girls pull it off than guys, which is weird.

I'm surprised about the comments on D&B being difficult to dance to. Easiest thing in the world to dance to for me.. probably cause I've done so much of it though, starting back in the Jungle era.
Agree about Drumstep. Just something not right about that style for me. Like an evolutionary dead end.

I probably could've learned it back in the day, but now I don't even have the inclination. While I've always enjoyed dnb, I was never super into it. I did go out to a bunch of just dnb nights, loved it in the rave at times, but was never exclusive with it like I have been other genres.
Jungle/ragga are real hit or miss for me. Like, when it's good, like Congo Natty, it's great. But when it's not good, I find it annoying. Tbh, I probably liked techstep more than anything. Also, I really liked that 80s synth inspired stuff that John B was making around 2004. I forget what he called it.

He called it "Nu Electro". Man, this stuff really did it for me. It combined the frenetic energy and rolling bass of dnb with my favorite sounds, which is stuff like 80s synths and electro melodies. Real cool music.

He made a whole album of that stuff, it's called 'Brainstorm', and it's an exceptional LP. Damn, now I'm really jonesing to hear it. Just decided what I'm mowing the lawn to.

Dude, it's 180bpm. It's fucking hard to dance to. You seriously need to move fast to keep up and keep that flow going. Unless you don't dance to the beat...

Yeah I hear you about drumstep. But to me I just listen to so much dubstep for so long that if it is drumstep, I'll know it. If that makes any sense
And yeah PotD played like one show a couple years ago. They aren't really still a "thing"

A matter of practice I guess. I'm a natural in a rave but put me in a tango class and I'd look the biggest moron there.

I figure I've got between 100-150 all night raves under my belt. Plus some daytime ones. Plus some that went on for several days. That's a lot of practice.
The only time I couldn't hack dancing at one was the only time I went to one and didn't have any pills. I was ready to die by 4am...

I've been to probably a lot more than that. And still DnB is hard to get down to for me. It's a lot easier for me to get down to dubstep or trap or glitch

Ah I'm opposite. I went to a rave when I was in Berlin (fucking best city I've ever been to BTW) and walked in to a Jungle set. Was so happy; the whole holiday (it was a birthday surprise) was just so perfect.
Then, the Jungle set finished and the next DJ played a dubstep set. Seriously man, I was so confused at the style of dancing. I tried, but there was just no way I could get it...
It does look pretty immense watching a crowd who knows how to dance to Dubstep though. Never seen anything like it.

haha yeah dubstep is too easy for me. I got that shit down. It's just less bpm and gives you a little more time for creativity
I love getting down while csndyflipping because it just gives you this insane flow

I've partied in Berlin too, it's a fucking crazy city to party in, no doubt. I went to the biggest damn rave ever there, it was called The Love Parade. There was something like 1.2 million people there. So many people that the party itself kinda sucked. What was cool was that night, when the main party dissipated and turned into like a thousand small parties throughout Berlin. That part was amazing. They don't throw Love Parades anymore because in 2010 a few dozen people got trampled to death, sadly.

1.2 million fucking people at a rave is insane not surprised at all that people got trampled to death at that big of an event, but that's definitely lame that they don't throw em anymore. I couldn't handle an event near that big.

It was pretty stressful tbh. Just throngs of people. It was in this gigantic outdoor area, and you'd still feel like you were going to die. They had all these world class dj acts on about 20 different floats driving around, so many djs that they all only got 20 minute sets. Like, huge names like Sasha playing a 20 minute set. It was weird, but a unique experience. Going clubbing around Berlin that night was the fun part.

Here's a shitty stock photo of it from the air. In the main plaza, that's all people packed in. And that area is huge. There's people packed in in the forested part surrounding it too. It's nuts.

That's like Notting Hill Carnival. About the same numbers attend and there's the same shattering off throughout the night. You gotta admire the vibe when so many come together with (mostly) the sole intent of having a fucking good time right?

Hey Burke, I was at the Love Parade in 2007. What year did you go?
I was 17, too young to really realize what I was doing. Didn't know a single act, was really just wandering around stoned flabbergasted at all the people and music happening. My first exposure to house music, I was pretty anti-electronic music until I went. Such a kick ass time.
Gotta love that festival atmosphere in Germany. I went to a lot of festivals when I was there, all were free to the public - the ones I went to at least. There was always some kind of festival going on in Germany on the weekends, within a few hours distance on the hauptbahnhofs. Hope to spend some time there again at some point in life.

I'd be going if PL wasn't the headliner. That dude is a fucking trainwreck. I'm just not ever gonna go to a show just for openers because they play limited sets and dont go full throttle on the speakers. Love me some Tipper and G Jones. PL just gets rocked before shows and his sets suck because of it. It amazes me that people will still pay to go see him fall asleep on stage (and yes I've actually seen him do that). The dude can't even do a transition. Instead he has to stop the track and mumble some gibberish into the mic so he can start his next track
I saw G Jones candyflipping suuper hard a couple weeks ago and damn, he played so much new shit. It was insane

Man. Fried DJ's...
A friend of mine wrote a text message to one once and walked up to him with the words 'YOU'RE LOSING THE CROWD' on his screen and showed it to the DJ. I think it shocked him into action. A little, at least..

This dude is a bigger spunion than most of his fans, and his fans are really spun. Him trying to DJ is just absolutely pathetic. The guy loves K and is addicted to opiates and he can't stay sober just for his own set
Last time I saw him I go to my friends "Someone needs to line up 2 fat gaggers and tell him to wake the fuck up". But for real, it would have made the show a lot better

I caught Skrillex at a music festival. Wasn't big on him to begin with, was really just catching part of his set in between other sets I wanted to see. He was completely (and obviously) wasted though. Will never see a show of his because of that. Later that night, 12th Planet was playing at another stage, and Skrillex commandeered half of his set just walking up. I was like what the fuck.
Not my type of music anyway, but yeah.

I've seen Skrillex twice. Once like 4 years ago and I used to stick up for the guy but I saw him again a couple weeks ago and holy shit. It was some of the most pathetic shit I've ever seen. I don't think he did one transition. The whole time he would build a track up, then drop it and let it play out for like a minute. Then he would stop it, say some retarded shit to the crowd and it was always some joke that wasn't funny and it seemed like it was directed towards like a 16 year old girl. Then he'd start another track wnd keep on doing that over and over and over
Like yeah some lf the drops were pretty insane, but they mean nothign when you aren't letting us flow. It was just so hard to get a rhythm going because he wouldn't shut the fuck up. And all his jokes were so dumb. It was EDM for people with ADD and absolutely no knowledge of music. It was incredibly stupid. We left the fest early that night because he was headlining

I went to the Love Parade in 2002. I was 20 and was spending a fun month just kinda bumming around Germany & the Netherlands with a couple friends. I was very much into electronic music so it was all a pretty big deal to me. There was no way I was prepared for that party though, just so many people. I'm glad I went, but I doubt I could ever enjoy something like that these days.
I hate when I'm at a rave or show or whatever & the dj is too wasted to perform well. It's really disrespectful to the crowd. Thankfully, a lot of the bigger names are pretty professional. It still happens though, Pretty Lights is apparently working on crafting a career out of being a trainwreck (I've heard of this outside of the poster above who mentioned it). Rusko is another one. And fuck Skrillex.

Rusko has been getting better though, he's not a dopehead anymore. He's been playing b2b sets with Caspa recently and they've actually been pretty legit. But yeah there were a few years when he was a total trainwreck. Literally going in the mic at the end of his sets and asking the crowd for opiates. Yes, that happened
But yeah Skrillex is a faggot. That set was just so dumb that I saw a couple weeks ago

EDM DJs should be limited to a 2 minute mic limit for any set, unless it's used to make music. Less than 2 minutes is preferable. A hello at the beginning and farethewell at the end.

Agreed. Talking is fine every so often, but just stfu and focus. DJs who don't talk, are actually DJing. So many DJ's just do coke and won't shut up and it's so annoying
And as far as that MC comment, eh, MCs kinda ruin shows too. I've seen an MC make the show better once and every other MC just yells retarded shit over and over. Id rather have a coked up DJ on the mic than an MC

I think you have the term 'classic' a bit mixed up. In D&B terms, these are 'classics':
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Nice selections for sure, but if you're talking about Aphrodite & Jump Up style, I might've gone with this:

Btw, you may have heard about this, but I read that the woman who did vocals for Goldie's 'Inner City Life' died recently. Such a classic tune.

Damn that's sad. Serious fucking classic that track is. The whole album is some of the best DNB I've heard.

I'm glad I went, but I doubt I could ever enjoy something like that these days.
I was at the same party! Who would have thought, a million people there and 2 of us would meet up on a forum 15 years later.

Haha, that's badass!
Jsb: that's real fuckin cool man! I love the down to earth dudes at that stature. It's funny how an absolutely world class, top rated dj/producer can be chill AF, and some asshole in the local club circuit can get a few shitty bookings and turn into a prima donna. Ego all inversely proportional to achievements and talent.

Drum and bass was how I got into electronic music. Dieselboy's Sixth Session and DJ Dara's From here to there were my first experiences with Drum and Bass. I've always had a taste for the dark chunez. I don't like Liquid D&B, but that's because I don't like poppy bullshit.
Recently I've developed a taste for Neurofunk. Producers like Noisia, Billain, Dusty Fungus.
This isn't drum and bass, but I think fans of darkstep or neurofunk will appreciate it:

That's because one of the midrange synths is a little bit between triplets and eighth notes, so it sounds off kilter. Genius really.

Current value has some pretty cool sound design, but it seems like a certain melodic cohesion that I prefer. I'd definitely catch 'em live if I had the chance though.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.
I started off with dnb because, you know, I've been listening to a lot of Dom & Roland as of late.
But, as many of you guys, probably started with Jungle and Hardcore back in the day, so, without further ado, here's my utter favourite from back in the day. A very nice record shop called Boogie times had a tribe, and the rest they say, is history: This is the q-project mix of it. It is not the original. I have all three versions. Johnny Jungle is good to. But of course he'd be. Boogie Times tribe was magic.
Then Jungle Happened. And, artists known as Krome & Time. Oh, what a wonder they were.
And a bit more jungle happened:
Then, drum and bass, moving away from the reggae/ragga vibes, which was a bit of a shame if you ask me. But, these days, there's plenty of good and violent dnb out there. Dom & Roland are still producing, but there's others I'd like to give a mention to
So, in the late 90's, Andy C did a RAM records special mix set and it was lovely. It had lots of stuff by Dom & Roland, the vocals is Leonardo da Vinci on Captain Janeway's personal fantasy holodeck program;
Then in 2003 I heard on Grooverider & Fabio show, which is always good. Grooverider is always looking for music to hurt with, he shares my itch.
Not all DNB has to be about violence. There's songs about stealing watermelons. Which I can understand: My love for watermelon borders on felonious sometimes.
Did you know the Dutch make DNB to? Well, their version of drum and bass, which I like more than anything I've heard from the US. I dunno why, but it's like, it's not quite right. Like when people in the UK do hip-hop. It aint quite right.
Also, honourable mention for Panacea, who are German. They did a one off called gunrunner and it's not dnb. I dunno what it is, but I fucking like it, and someone put it on youtube, finally, saving me the effort of trying to find my turntable.
Stormbringer
Gunrunner
And finally, as it is supposed to be summer here in damp af England, here's a song from back in the day.
Which is quite easy to dance to! Sometimes it's not about dancing, but flailing your arms about like a spaz whilst not giving a solitary fuck because: a) everyone else is to b) if they're not what the hell are they doing at a jungalist rave? Fucking go mental. c) pills mate.

I have been listening to a decent amount of liquid DnB recently, I like the more mellow vibe from it, the jazzy influence is great. Also try to check out people that do their own mixes, that are not well known, you know just to support those starving artists.
Here's a good liquid DnB mix.
Japanese DnB makes you feel like you're in a anime when listening to it, all the visuals take on Japanese shapes. I was searching for Japanese Electro mixes earlier when I stumbled upon this, I like it. Japanese dance music tends to be rather bouncy and happy sounding, not as dark as other styles.
Also some jungle.

When it comes to atmospheric, uplifting DnB, I love LTJ Bukem. I wrote a whole thing about trying to describe Demon's theme and how it sounds like an actual jungle. There's something in the effects that sounds like a tropical bird, and part of the melody just sounds like rays of the sun. I fucking loved this song back in the day when running around getting shot lots in lazerquest and playing unreal tournament.

I've just made it to the end of that amazingly well laid out post VT (have listened to every track in this thread so far) and just wanted to say:
a. Thanks for that, and: b. Absolutely spot on with that quote above, especially point c.

Alright, so to say thanks to all that chipped in, I'll share my own little timeline of personal favourites.
This is the first tune in the growing scene I can remember as a boy:
One of my all time favourite Jungle tunes:
Drum & Bass started to break off into it's own branch:
Jungle kept going strong for a while though! (man I miss those rolling basslines dancing in front of speakers that made my whole body vibrate:
As Jungle drifted, D&B started getting that 'darkside' feel to it:
(I drifted away from the genre for a few years around here, as after being a pure drum & bass head for so many years, I finally discovered ALL the other genres out there in the world; hip-hop, reggae, rock, etc, etc)
But since I've come back, the uplifting stuff is flowing so beautifully (that Netsky track is a classic example of the 'new' sound I'm loving these days VT, as are these):
Specially when they manage to get that old school sound in there:
c) pills mate.
Often overlooked for the unfortunate circumstance of not being "propa English jungle", Panacea did a song called King of the Jungle. It's quite nice, not many songs will have a happy hardcore interlude in the middle.

Fucking sick tunes. Man, there was something to be said for when all you had was an amiga tracker with samples on floppy disk.
The nice thing about going through the old jungle is I uncover tunes that I missed the first time around. It's like finding there's an episode of star trek TNG you overlooked first time around.

I ended up coming across a bunch of 'Bachelors Of Science' tracks today on my iPod. I gotta give em a re-listen and filter out the best ones to post here but they were fucking sick.

Just gonna copy and paste this from facey:
Quote:
I said: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index…
So, music being a bit of an interest in me over the years, it struck me I didn't realise what the difference is between rhythm and melody. According to Wikipedia: "Jungle's rhythm-as-melody style overturned the dominance of melody-over-rhythm in the hierarchy of Western music, adding to its radical nature." And I thought, what's that even mean? If you can't be arsed to read the answer, you dance to the rhythm, the melody is the tune itself. Making every jungle tune a different dance.
and the quote for those that don't wanna click through:
Quote:
Yahoo: Hi sbskeeper,
Rhythm is best decribed by the kind of song it is.
You ever dance a cha cha cha, or a mambo, or samba or see people that do?
Each one of those dances have a different rhythm. and if you are a dancer you know exactly how to dance to that "rhythm" or style.
(FOR INSTANCE, ON THE TV SHOW "DANCING WITH THE STARS", THE DANCES, JIVE, SAMBA, MAMBO, CHA CHA, TANGO, ALL HAVE DIFFERENT RHYTHM AND THE DANCERS MUST DANCE A CERTAN STYLE WHEN TO DANCING TO EACH DIFFERENT RHYTHM).
If you hear ragee music, or hip hop, or rap, they all have different rhythms. and you do a different type of dance to that different rhythm.
For instance you can't dance a cha cha, or a tango to "American Boy", because those dances are not the right rhythm to dance to that song , those dances are the wrong rhythm, for that song. Get it?
Melody is best described as the song itself. (The words which are lyrics), are sung using specific musical notes what is called the melody OR THE WAY THE SONG GOES.
For instance, when you sing "Happy Birthday" You always remember that "melody" and everyone ususally knows how to sing it because we sing that same "melody" and lyrics (words) all the time.
Also if we sing the National Anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner", even though we may not know all the words (lyrics), we know the "Melody" and can usually start the melody with "Oh say can you seeeee, by the dawns early light....
Well, all the lyrics (the words) to the the Star Spangled are always sung the same way with the same Melody .. (and even if we dont remember the words (Lyrics) we can HUM the melody (the song itself).
The point is, everyone knows the song by the "Melody" or as some poeple say, "the way the song goes" not necessarily the right words (or lyrics).
One last thing, the songs melody does not have to have lyrics (words) the melody can be played on an instrument only, without words, but you recognize the melody by the song (melody) itself. For instance "Tequila" there are no words, but you recognize the melody (the song itself.)
Lastly, I should say... some one hums a song to you and says I can remember the melody(the song itself), (or the way the song goes) but I cant remember the words (lyrics), do you know the words to this song ( and they hum the "melody" (or the way the song goes) to you to see if you know the lyrics (the words to the song).
Ok, now you know the rhythm, and the melody, then you must want to know what does the "beat" means.
Well the BEAT is how FAST or SLOW you PLAY the RHYTHM in order to SING or PLAY the MELODY. Whew!!!
I hope this helps you, sbskeeper.
Agape,
Foxx

Just been on the facey and theresa may was the subject being talked about by THTC on their facey page. I said this
I don't like how partisan this makes everyone. Theresa may is a shitbag par excellence, and yes, I did vote out so we, the people, would be in control of our own country. Personally I'd have liked an election following Cameron's resignation, but give corbyn time to purge the Labour Party of its scumbags first. I know, it's going from the right to the left wing of the same beast. I don't want to speculate, but unlike may, doesn't have a spouse who's a major shareholder in the private prison industry. Something that's turned America into the most incarcerated nation on earth. I fully expect a campaign of bullying, even terrorism to "punish" us for our choice of reclaiming independence. Look what happened to Greece when they tried to take back control . And it'll be blaimed on "racist brexiteers".

Gave me a 15% off code, so I got me a save the jungle shirt. Nice

Hi Jokey,
Nahh, haven't listened to the mix. It's hard to explain but I prefer just having one song at a time. Back in the day, loved my moving shadow, ram records, even dj hype mixsets.
I clicked on it but it stopped after 20 seconds loading so I can't tell you what either song is.
here's father Ted's least favourite jungle song as a consolation prize:

Likewise man. I first came across rave music back in 93/94, but it wasn't until 99 when I could manage to get into raves. I didn't listen to anything else other than D&B from about 15-20.
I drifted away into all the other genres in the world for the next 10 years, and recently re-found new D&B (as in my post above) that had been released in my absence.
I've fallen in love with it all over again...

I enjoy listening to DnB every once in a great while. Def gotta be in the right mood for it. Deisel boy, and AK1200 are two good artists I can name off the bat. I been to some pretty sick DnB shows in Detroit back when I was into the electronic music scene out there a few years back. Def some hype ass shows forsure. One of my fav was seeing Deiselboy at this art gallery It was jam packed with people which was the only downside cause of the heat but he thru some sick DnB down that night.

Nah man, before my time. My first underground rave was in '99. Squat parties were my thing back then. My first proper rave was One Nation, at Bagleys (ah... I loved that place) in '01.
Just this weekend, at Notting Hill Carnival, I fell in with a crowd that used to rave it up at the Sanctuary, which was my all time favourite venue ever before it got shut down. It looked a lot like that vid you posted.
I don't know if any of those events or venues mean anything to you guys in the US though...

Came back from drinks with mates and found myself in possession of a new £5 note so I had a go at using it as a stylus.
And here's the song again. As you can hear, sounds better with a bit of bass

Caught LTJ Bukem last month, this guy is a god damn wizard of dnb. I wish dnb was more popular in the states, I always find myself at parties with people mixing mediocre house, and all I wanna do is throw on some dnb. I think a lot of casual listeners would really enjoy it

fuck, I love Dom & Roland, "can't punish me" is why I started this entire thread.
Just been reminded of this banger from Total Science, Oxford's finest. I remember when I got the record, brand new, in Avid records all those years ago. Ahh, good times. I could have probably had a mad holiday in amsterdam with all the money I blew on music. I think I made the right choice.
I'm pretty sure there's a sample from a guy called Gerald's "Voodoo Ray" in this.
Fuck, this is why I bought the record, because Bad Company are fucking banging. I dunno why, but this feels like a pressure cooker, like, it's so relentless, something's going to implode.
Here's another example of the Bad Company magic touch.
Nothing special. I mean, it's alright, but, I'm not feeling it.
Already in the first ten seconds I can tell it's gonna be special. Another 55 seconds in and it's not teasing you anymore. Anyway, if you haven't heard it before, enjoy. If you have heard it before, crank it up and annoy the neighbours!

Fuuuuck, I had forgotten about this one. One of the comments on youtube sums it up nicely:

Ohh, I member. It was at the end of a massive mix. I rinsed out oh it and was buzzing for days after hearing that.
This one was the last ever song played by John Peel on his show before his untimely demise. I miss that man, he always had new fresh interesting music on his show.

I don't think I've seen enough appreciation for Dillinja in this thread, which is a shame. But, hey ho, apparently he's done a new album this year? I dunno what it's called.
Nasty ways. The record skips in this, I can imagine why lol. I travelled ovver 70 miles today and in that round trip I picked up my sub which I had left at work (put some new legs on it). I gotta say, it's sounding better than ever.

I've moved into my newold house that was my late uncles. He had good taste in music and HIFI, and I've really been enjoying listening to the mordaunt short MS20's through a superb Onkyo receiver amp (too bad there's fuck all on the FM dial these days).
I've been procrastinating over inserting my mordaunt short subwoofer into the system because putting multistrand speaker cable into the spring connectors is a fucking ballache. But, after an hours fiddling and twiddling, I've got it in. I'll order some connectors later and do a proper job, but there's some debate over sound quality loss when using plugs (bollocks, but, the hifi community are very fussy).
Anyway, got the sub fired up, and decided to listen to my old time favourite, the dark stranger:
and my favourite mix of the thing, with frankly, uncomfortable levels of bass in it! Heh, I think I understand my boyfriend when he says too much bass makes him feel queasy. Weaponised LFO's?
Whilst we're on the subject of Low Frequency Osciliation, whilst it's not strictly jungle, I'm pretty sure everyone here is going to like LFO
Jungle wasn't just Jamaican MC's toasting over ragga techno, Jungle is proper British, and like anything proper British, it's a combination of the best bits of everyone who lives here. So, the foundation of Jungle is not just in dub and reggae (which I love) but also in the UK rave scene that was an evolution from house and techno popular in the 80's.
LFO is not a missing link, because it's well known, but as far as I'm concerned, it's pivotal. It's dark, it's full on, and it's the harbinger of what was to come.

Nothing really against mix sets, but it's harder to point out one song I particulary like.
Anyone want to start a happy hardcore/hardcore techno thread, or is there enough overlap that it fits into jungle/dnb?

Oh man, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favourite High Contrast songs! And Netsky started it all for me many years ago, still love all his old work!
I also know Etherwood, I'm familiar with most of the Hospital/Med school artists.
Nu:Tone's brother, Logistics is also one of my favourite artists:
I'm finally going to see him play this summer!

Liquicity festival. There are some fine names on the line-up! A selection of the names that I look most forward to: High Contrast, DJ Marky, Alix Perez, Brookes Brothers, Lenzman, Logistics, LSB, Nymfo, Technimatic, The Vanguard project, GLXY, Hugh Hardie, Macca & Loz Contreras, Malaky, Satl, Pola & Bryson and last but not least Utah Jazz.
And another sweet tune.

I've always liked DnB but I think in part it's because I never got huge into it, so it stays kinda fresh. Grew up on a lot more Boards of Canada, RJD2, Vector Lovers, etc. Talking different styles though, who gets down on breakcore? Venetian Snares, anyone?

I've been into it 19 years - it's still fresh as fuck IMO. TBH, I'm surprised it's stood the test of time so well.. thank fuck for the trend setting producers out there!!

I like it! I have heard this song before in someone's set, never knew the name though. The mix between reggae and dnb is a nice thing.
What do you think of this? Kimyan Law is by far one of my favourite (relatively) new artists. His music is maybe not dnb is the most classical sense, but it's still being released as somewhat more experimental dnb on BluMarTen.

Yes, I have a similar experience so far. For me it has not been 19 years yet but I do experience the same freshness after 4 years. Which is something I have not experienced before.
I think that for me personally it has something to do with the combination of using psychedelics and listening to this kind of music. My trips have permanently changed the way I perceive music. Ever since I combined the two I'm able to hear (even sober) most if not all subliminal layers of the music. As individual layers but at the same time part of a bigger whole. This dynamic got me hooked.

Yeah, a lot of artists are getting into this experimental D&B nowdays, but I just aint digging the slow tempo. I've got other genres that I think slow tempo better, and to me D&B just aint D&B without ~170 BPM.
Fenn's got me thinking back to the glory days after that vid...
