LOL yeah, I got stacks of blue shop towels, love em.
So, as I'm understanding, the process will follow:
1. Chemical stripper 2. Scrape off layer once it's worked in using blue shop towels soaked in mineral spirit (what's good example?) 3. Let it dry 4. Sand up from coase -> fine 5. Give it a couple of coats of varnish

Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

I just revanished a dresser in my house. I took a belt sander, I evened out the wood so it all looked the same colour (hopefully you know what I mean). Then I stained it.
I bought that thing off kijiji from a guy who had for decades. I needed it for one of my rooms. It looks brand new now.

Yeah I wish I had a belt sander, imagine that would be a beast compared to what I'm working with...

Sounds like a lot of work, just to turn around and sell it. It doesn't look that bad in the pic you provided.

I hear ya, but I started now and it's definitely gonna net me a few hundred extra. Doing the same with my Husaberg:

She's worth about £900-1000 as she is, but running perfectly with an MOT she'll fetch £1,500-1,800. To me it just seems common sense to stick a days work and a couple of hundred to make twice back what you put in...

No.
1. Apply stripper (pour on in long strips or big globs, whatever, spread with cheap ass brush, it's only a tool for spreading and it's junk after using it so don't spend money on a good/decent brush) let it work for 15-20 mins 2. Scrape with plastic putty knife (be careful on corners/edges and don't push harder than you need to scrape the stuff up or you can gouge the wood even with plastic) 3. Use heavily soaked mineral spirit shop towels to wipe the entire surface down 4. Let it dry 5. Sand starting at 80 and going to 180-220 ish 6. Stain (optional) and finish with sealant (varnish, shellac, polyurethane etc)

Wicked. Gotcha. Mineral spirit is just what you guys call white spirit, got loads.
So all I need is a varnish stripping chemical and a plastic putty knife, along with multiple grit sandpapers.
More shopping tomorrow!!
Thanks for all the help guys, I'll add pics to the thread to keep you posted on how it's going!!!

Man, every penny saved at this stage is 1 minute less I have to spend selling my soul in the city and dying inside, and closer to getting my ass out to the middle of nowhere in Australia to start my new life.
I cannot emphasise enough just how much my time in England is done. 20 years I been here. Seen it, seen the heart of the beast in more ways than one, now is the time to move on.
Quicker the better, my healing soul needs this. Every additional £100 cuts down my remaining time here by a week.....

Brown Buffalo said: If the sander is a pretty good one, you should be able to do the job.
Try a bigger grit paper, according to this, if you're using P240 it may be too small, while 240 µm one should be good but you still could try 336 one.
I did many reconditionings on old wood and it's always a pain in the ass, I have a pretty good sander but it's still a boring job, especially for old furniture, maybe because I dont choose my paper right
I'd try another paper or try making more pressure with the sander, without stressing it too much, since you don't need to do legs and such, right?
